I've been a long-term customer of Big Tex Stone. Overall, I have enjoyed the service and the products they offer. However, recently I have been assisted by a customer service agent by the name of 'Sandra'. I am not sure if she is just new or if she doesn't want to work there. Sandra usually is not friendly or helpful and when asking questions, she often doesn't know the answer and is aggravated about having to find out. On the other hand, Jonathan does fantastic customer service. Always friendly and knowledgeable, and if he isn't sure about the answer, he will find out immediately. Would give 0 stars if possible. They seem to have great selection but BUYER BEWARE when you get a quote. It will change continuously and make no sense. Staff clearly does not receive customer service training or direction on how to communicate clearly and set expectations for pricing, delivery, extra costs ($25 for the bags the rocks come in). I had a large landscaping order 3 tons+ of rocks but guess that is of no value to this company. Perhaps they're only interested in commercial business? Either way, the owner and managers should consider customer experience and how easily it would be to fix frustration and bad reviews by following their own quote " am owner of Big Tex Stone(Mike Hillman). I started this company to meet the needs of homeowners and landscape professionals. This is not just a job for my team and I but a passion. We truly love to make house beautiful." If this is passion I recommend focusing it on customer service. Post a pricing menu clearly with details like cost of product, packaging like the bag, delivery (by mileage), and provide written quotes. Staff appropriately and train your team how to handle the front desk and phones. The person I worked with watched me write down all his quotes and never offered to write it up himself. Then when I called to place the order a surly young woman answered who proceeded to give four different prices for the same amount moving from my original quote of $650 to $768, no wait $781, no wait $801.. it was ridiculous. When I asked to speak with the guy who first helped me he said he watched me write down the numbers but they were wrong. Wow - way to lie to and dismiss the customer while dodging responsibility completely. Big Tex -Your literally selling dirt and rocks and frankly, at comparable costs to other businesses. This isn't rocket science - simple math was beyond them and instead of solving the issue escalated it by being rude, dismissive, and careless. I was happy to give my business to Whiz Q Stone and would avoid this place at all costs. read more

The dirt was great but they have issues with their delivery drivers. I was promised a morning delivery and the delivery came at 5 pm. If you need a timely product search elsewhere. The delivery fee is as much as the product. I paid $300 delivery fee for 10 yards of dirt. I'll never use them again! read more

It was really easy to order my stone from here. Driving to it and finding it was a little tricky, but once we were there we walked around, found the stone we liked, went inside ordered it, scheduled delivery within five days, and that was that. I ordered 2 tons of rock so they came in a smaller truck and were able to back it up to where my fence opens and make it easier for me to shovel to my backyard. I would totally go again when I need rock in the future. We came here after going to a different stone place that's about 10 minutes away, I much prefer the experience here. read more

Everyone knows their stuff. In this case it's rocks. They can walk you through take offs, suggestions and alternatives that will make the most sense. We all know rocks are heavy but their deliveries makes it so easy. I called in late Tuesday and was on schedule first thing Thursday. The quality of stone is what separates them from the rest. After talking to Mike on the phone, I decided to drive out to Big Tex and one of its competitors WQ.I started with WQ, and I found that WQ didn't help me at all. They just handed me a string of plastic and told me to go choose my pallet out of a lot of unmarked ones. After walking back and forth from the office to the rock 4 times, I gave up with them. I headed out to Big Tex. I AM SO GLAD I DID!! Dana is THE BEST and if I knew the delivery man s name, I d be singing his praises also. Big Tex beats the others hands down with customer service and the delivery was so fast. I bought what I needed, and it was delivered the next evening. Dana helped me by walking with me to show me what was available for flagstone, and when an issue arose, she was sooooo truly accommodating that I could have cried at how she made the process so much smoother. Big Tex is great to do business with: they have a wide selection of materials to choose from for landscaping projects. I brought Dana some photos of my project, along with the measurements. She was able to provide good advice on the installation, and made very accurate calculations on quantities needed. Cliff was very helpful with stone selection from the yard. He loaded the stone right on our truck. The bulk of the materials were delivered by Bryan who expertly used his forklift to place the pallets exactly where I wanted them in the driveway. read more

Had rock and stone delivered and of course it had to be raining! Worried about the delivery person tearing up my yard with the truck and forklift, but there was no need! Not only did he bring my newspaper up to the front door, he kept the truck in the street and only used the forklift. When he noticed how wet the area was where we wanted the stone and rock set, he maneuvered the forklift around as to not get into the yard and rut it up! I called Big Tex to compliment their driver who did all of this in the rain, and was informed that on top of all this extra care he was not feeling well!! KUDOS to the delivery driver who took the extra time and attention to preserve our yard all while feeling poorly himself! Will definitely be back with all our stone and rock needs! WOW read more

I needed three yards of pea gravel to be delivered to my home this past week. I called three local suppliers. Big Tex Stone gave me the best price for the material AND the best price on delivery. They delivered exactly when they promised - which was important as I had scheduled my landscaper based on the promised delivery time. (I know this didn't happen accidentally. Thank you Maria.) When the truck arrived, the driver came to my door, introduced himself (his name is Don) and then explained that his truck was too wide for my narrow driveway. Would it be OK to back his truck partly on the crushed granite area next to the driveway? Wow - he asked for permission first. And then he conscientiously unloaded the pea gravel slowly - moving the truck forward as he did - so as not to "splatter" the load into the adjacent flower beds. He did this of his own initiative - without having to be asked. Impressive. I'll be calling Big Tex Stone first for all future projects. read more

My husband and myself went to Big Tex Stone today and were very disappointed in the customer service or lack of it. The woman working in the building seemed irritated that we asked her questions and couldn't be bothered to leave where she was sitting to show us the stone we were looking for. She just pointed out the window saying, " I think its that one." and that someone else outside may help u. I told her all the rock is dirty how can I see the color and she unhappily gave me a small cup of water to pour on the rock. We went outside and went up to another employee and he was nicer but also just pointed to where we should go. We left after that not being sure if that was the rock we were originally looking for in our garden because no one could be bothered to help us. We wanted to purchase a minimum of one ton plus delivery. I guess our money wasn't green enough. We won't be going back. read more
