Such a fun place for kids and a great opinion for birthday parties! Limited opening hours but absolutely worth a visit. You can buy pails of kale, lettuce and carrots to feed the animals. It's super fun but be careful walking straight into the animal area if you or your child are shy-the animals are not and don't hesitate to race right up to you and fight for the food. There is a smaller gated off area for smaller kiddos who can reach through a gate to feed goats, etc. it's a great option for those who may be a little scared of the animals. We took our 4 year old and 18 month old boys to Big Red's Barn before driving back to Seattle and it was such a treat! The people, the animals, and the entire venue was incredibly welcoming and the boys loved the animals! They have buckets of veggies that you can buy to feed the animals and we loved that part. It is evident that the animals are very well taken care of and that they are actual pets so that was comforting too! Anytime we are back in Idaho, we'll definitely make a trip to Big Red's! read more

Really cool place for meeting and interacting with all kinds of creatures. Taking one star away because of false advertising. We only came because it said they have Capybaras. Super disappointed! If that was not an expectation, then it's an easily 5 star experience. I loved the variety of animals, from farm animals to more exotic ones, such as axolotl! Never saw one in person. Birds were super noisy. My favorite was probably seeing the baby wallabies and holding energetic ferrets. Worth a visit if you're in the CDA. read more

This place was really cool! Lots of animals that you don't typically see in zoos and it was so cool being able to pet and hold a lot of the animals. The owner was really nice and attentive to everyone and seemed to really love what he does. We were pretty surprised on the prices... it was $15/ person and then I believe the feed cups were $7 each. I honestly wasn't planning on feeding them but it was just so flippin' fun!!! The Amazing Angels, Charlie's Angels!!! The Sweetest, Most Entertaining, Worth Every Penny Sea Otters!!! To pay extra just to chill out with them for a bit is completely therapeutic! My only complaint, ... ugh I gross out just thinking about it. But there was this one woman walking around with her broom & dustpan, wearing one of the smocks just hacking all over! Not even making a single attempt to cover her cough or catch her germs!!! Big Red's is an absolutely fantastic establishment for getting close to and interacting with all kinds of critters, animals and wildlife. It's great for all ages and a great way to get up close with, pet and learn about a variety of animals. They regularly get new animals so it's always nice to revisit and see what's new. They always have staff monitoring the animals and cleaning up after them to keep the enclosures clean and tidy. The owner, Janine, is incredibly friendly, welcoming and hospitable. The prices are very reasonable and annual memberships are available that include animal feed with every visit (or feed can be purchased individually). If you enter the main enclosure with food, be prepared to be swarmed! Some of the most notable features of Big Reds is you can hold a giant boa constrictor, pet baby goats, see a Bird Eater spider (one of the largest breeds of spider in existence), see land otters, ferrets, baby wallabies, pigs, cockatoos and the always personable Elroy the Llama. Some of the animals are only available for a limited time so it's a good idea to check in regularly to see which animals are around. Some of the animals are sourced from people in the community and they visit Big Red's to socialize with people and other animals. It's a great cause, a lot of fun, and a well run, clean, establishment at an affordable price. I highly recommend a visit and supporting this business. read more

Such an awesome experience, hopefully a new owner keeps this place around! Definitely worth the $15 admission. It's small but so fun, we bought the veggie bucket to feed the animals for $7 and that was a must to get the full experience. They have birds, tons of goats (babies too!), a llama named elroy who was so cool, a zebu cow, a dairy cow, a rooster, bunnies, guinea pigs, Prarie dogs, a baby kangaroo, snakes, spiders, lizards, tortoises, a pig, sloths, and the cutest little otters! There is an otter and sloth experience that you can reserve in advance for $50 with a 2 person minimum to reserve for 25 minutes but I guess you can go in the area with those animals and interact with them. You can't pick up the animals but that still sounds like so much fun! I will definitely play with the otters if this place stays open! Also, the goats will Jump on you if you come in with a food bucket so be careful if you have little ones. read more

Grandparents, if you have grandkids between the ages of 3 to 10 this place is for you! My goodness, even my older teenage girls and 30-something step daughter went gaga over the animals. And they have some pretty cool ones not normally seen at a petting zoo. When was the last time your scratched a Capybara under his/her ears? All the animals are so well taken care of, and they all are obviously very used to human contact. I melt when I see baby goats, and I got to bottle feed 8-day old little ones! We were looking for a fun way to spend our Saturday morning in town - we found it!! We were greeted by great staff who helped get us acquainted with the areas. We purchased two food cups full of lettuce and carrots ($4 each), but passed on the carrots for the camel ($1) and camel rides ($8). We did go check out the camel, but I knew my kids would freak if I tried to put them on it. Haha! Price was pretty awesome for all the unique animals we got to see ($10 for everyone 3+). I mean - a baby zebra?! So cool! The goats were a little pushy, but they were my daughter's favorite. I thought getting to pet a wallaby was pretty darn awesome too. We had so much fun at Big Red's! We were visiting the area from Arizona for a few days and we went back two different times because we loved it so much. The animals were amazing and the staff was so kind and knowledgeable. Highly recommend taking a visit to Big Reds. If you can, definitely book the otter experience ahead of time! We saw some people doing it and it looked like so much fun. They had no spots available since we did not book in advance. So make sure to do that ahead of time! They did have an otter and a wallaby out at one point that we were also able to pet though. read more

Big reds is a great place to take your kid, so many animals even when it's busy there's someone for you to pet.

Definitely not what was expected from social media or previous reviews. There weren't enough staff members to experience anything other than the main area and my child and I both got injured by the animals while standing completely still because the staff picks up the waste but doesn't monitor guest and animal interactions in the pen. The Patagonian cavy was horribly scared the whole time. We got there past midday and the animals were so hungry they mauled us for the food cups. Hence the injuries. I expected to spend the whole afternoon there based on the petting zoo aspect but fearful, biting animals don't really make for a fun experience. Would not recommend. read more

To start, the team there is great and they keep it really clean. The reptile tanks, fish tanks, critter tanks, bird cages are all kept clean and the animals seem very well cared for and happy. Quality place. This was one of our favorite places to go over the past 4 years, we even bought a year family pass because we loved it so much. Having said that, the experience has changed. Our favorite part use to be saying hello and hanging out with all of the petting zoo animals in the main enclosure and then sitting with the bunnies or saying hello to the Wallabys in their separate enclosures. Unfortunately, the bunny & guinea pig enclosure was rebuilt up on stilts where the kids can't pet them anymore, just see them through the wire as the bunnies sit at the back of the cage. We can do that at the pet store. The Wallaby enclosure is going and the one Wallaby was in the mix with the rest of the animals. The petting zoo animals in the main enclosure (cow, sheep, goats, chickens, pig, llama, etc) are always fun to see and pet but they have become so food driven that if you have food (that you buy from the front desk), you will get clobbered. It's no joke Lesson learned. The animals use to be pushy when it came to the food (we were prepared for that) but it's gotten really bad and it's not a fun experience at all. The whole experience is just different now and the kids don't want to go back anymore. We went from having to drag the kids out of the petting zoo after spending a solid 2 hours in there to our last experience of 45 min - hour and the kids wanted to leave. It was disappointing. Like I said, they have a great staff, really clean place and well taken care of critters... the experience has just changed. read more

I really really appreciate the attraction for younger kids (trust me especially now during covid I absolutely do more than ever) they had people cleaning up the large pen area all the time and so it was clean... but this was no environment for these animals... not in the slightest. I appreciate the owner's need to make money and I hate to say this, especially during covid... but these animals were in rough shape and living in awful conditions. They were not healthy (obesely overweight, teeth not cared for and otherwise looked rough), in a TINY pen with way too many other animals, crowded with as many people as they could stuff in, with no space to move around (absolutely none) there was randomly a snapping turtle running around the space with a note TAPED to it's back saying "do not get near my face" essentially. A worker warned us a boy had just had his finger bitten by said SNAPPING turtle. NO KIDDING. Respect the animal. Should not be running. Around with a donkey, many goats, chickens, an alpaca, pigs, etc etc. those animals should not be in a TINY shared space. This whole thing was like the tiger king. Just next level insanity. Not okay. I appreciate the need to make money but find another way without hurting animals to do so. There was a large animal with a VERY large mass coming out of its back area that wouldn't (or couldn't) stand that looked in so much discomfort. And as I said every animal looked terrible kept and OBESELY overweight not to mention their terrible and I truly mean terrible living conditions. I pray to god someone shuts this situation down . Animals should not live like this. I understand most things, But this, any Normal level headed human wouldn't agree with. These are animals.... that pen to live in 24/7 in those conditions... so ridiculous. Please don't support this crap. read more

This is a good little place to take younger kids, around 5-10. I took my 13 year old who loves animals and she had a great time but she was definitely the oldest kid there. Friendly staff who is on top of cleaning up animal messes. The interaction with the animals was really enjoyable. read more
