Small biscuits and gravy and sausage on the side!
    David P.

Did the breakfast call in Ahead and drive through pick up which was extremely proficient! Ordered the classic small biscuit and gravy with a side of sausage. Outstanding flavor and filled me up! Was just what I expected, like homemade wonderfulness!! Thank you very much.

No barn tin, farm implements, road signs, not even a picture of a cow inside the restaurant. A golf themed, side of the road, rural country BBQ restaurant sure seems odd to me. And instead of PAR, it is P@R? And then, Above P@R? Wouldn't you want to be below par. Isn't that how golf works? The goal is to come in under par? That means you are good, right? I'm sure that there were hours of thought that went into the name, and it all makes sense to someone. Just never mind, lets focus on the food. It is a clean, simple little cinder block building on the south side of highway 64, west of Tahlequah. Nothing fancy. The menu covers the BBQ essentials: ribs, brisket, sausage, pulled pork and an Oklahoma favorite bologna. The usual sides, mandatory fried okra, etc. etc. and a surprise, normally only appearing during your family holiday get togethers, Deviled Eggs! Yep, Deviled Eggs! My wife opted for the Brisket Sandwich with fried okra and potato salad. Brisket here is excellent. Tender, lean with a thick smokey bark. I had the jalapeno sausage, baked beans and the potato salad. Great tasting, smokey sausage. The potato salad here is exceptional. Not the typical mustard potato salad, like you pick up at Walmart in the deli section. I'd guess that Above P@R's potato salad is derived from a secret family recipe. It is tasty. The bake beans tasted like they spent some time in the smoker with the brisket. A nice touch of smoke. The helpings of the sides are generous. Check the pictures. We couldn't finish them all. A selection of BBQ sauce is on the table. The hot is perfect!!! Great friendly service from a feisty young lady working today. My receipt said it was Christina. Most BBQ joints are "par" for the course. "Above P@R BBQ" is very good! So, in golf terms, being better, it is below par. That made sense, right? EAT HERE! The food is fantastic. Be sure to try the golf ball challenge. You might win your meal!

Initially we were going to postpone to Sunday since we spent the day sightseeing however, they are not opened on Sunday. We made the drive but sadly they were already out of Ribs & Pulled Pork. We had a great server (Kaylie) and she did an awesome job in getting us to sample what was available. We ordered two Steve's Sampler which gave us plenty of options. The presentation was very good. On one platter we had Smoked Turkey & Burnt Ends,Mac n Cheese, Cole Slaw, Potato Salad. On the other tray we had Baked Beans, Okra, Regular Fries & Cajun Fries, Brisket, 2 types of Sausage and what was remaining of the pulled pork. All of which were very good. We had the Fried Pies for dessert but we only ordered 2 to share. Highly recommend the Pecan Pie w/Vanilla Ice Cream. The second Fried Pie was Blackberry w/Vanilla Ice Cream another great choice. A down side were the Burnt Ends, I found them way too salty which otherwise would have been excellent. The positives outweighed the negative. Starting with Kaylie our server, she made our dining experience wonderful! All of the sides we chose were delicious, the top picks were the Baked Beans, Cole Slaw & Potato Salad. I could not recommend because I'm not a Mac n Cheese fan so I don't know. The Okra was mediocre and if I'm choosing fries I'm going with the regular. Overall it was worth the drive from Ft Smith. Obviously I want to give a higher star rating but I really wanted the Ribs & Pulled Pork. This does not detract from the overall experience, I would still recommend going however, a call ahead before you go would be a great idea to see if they have what you like.
