Choppeed beef and baked beans
John K E.

$22.25 is an excellent price point for a sizable amount of well prepared 'cue, making this a worthwhile stop-- our 12th in Oklahoma, and 384th BBQ outing nationwide A pulled pork sandwich came heavily sauced, but the deeply smoked meat also had great flavor. Likewise the single link that we tried: it packed some heat! The quarter pound of chopped beef (not brisket) was also well smoked and tasty, but really comes into its own when mixed into the highly and deservedly praised baked beans (on its own, the beef is very, very dry). We went back for banana pudding, which is a decent finish, though again on the dry side.

Today, bbq sandwich was hands down the best sandwich I have ever had! And I have been eating here for 35 years! Beans awesome Dad said the ribs were fantastic

I've been coming here since I was a child and that was a long time ago. it's been a staple in the area for many years. Sometimes its great and sometimes its good. I'll go in the order of "what I liked the most" A. the BBQ beans are really good. nice spice, sweetness, has a nice amount of meat in it. B. The "Hot" BBQ sauce is very nice. its vinegary but I tend to like the way the heat matches with it. One of the best sauces I've had. C. The serving amount was very generous I could have made two sandwiches easy with the portion. I am usually very satisfied when I go but this time wasn't the best experience. The meat was really dry. it broke apart in my plate. Usually spot on this time no bueno on the meat. I'm sure the problem will be fixed. Its a clean little place that looks like its been there forever because it has. I'll continue to be a loyal customer.

Pork Ribs

Some of the meatiest pork ribs ever! The ribs make a nice smoked pork chop rib combo. We ordered 3lbs and a few sides for $40 great value and service. Will be back!

Pathetic BBQ served up in a dilapidated filthy shack! It only gets worse. For $8.75 you will get far more of their stringy tasteless beef, unremarkable beans and BBQ sauce than you would be willing to eat. I thought that earlier in life I had eaten the worst BBQ in Oklahoma. Tragically, I was wrong. The state tourism and the prevalent in your state articles have been pumping out B.S. The place is terrible! I won't make you suffer through any more descriptions of the food; it is not worth the time. But I will finish with this thought. Based on the reviews I have read, that praise the "Succulent" "Indescribably Delicious" BBQ at Wild Horse Mountain, I am now convinced that Methamphetamine use in Oklahoma is far worse than I had imagined!

Beef sandwich 2 ribs

For the last 3 years I passed this place longingly looking at it as I passed by due to not having time at the moment to stop and eat. I've heard tales about they had the most delicious barbecue in Oklahoma. The exterior of the place is awesome and takes you back to the old days, all wood with delicious smells oozing out of it. You know I'm excited. 6 bucks for a sandwich and 3.25 per rib. Plus a soda. The ribs were massive and really tasty. The barbecue sauce was good. The price was nice. But the beef sandwich. Come on man it's a freaking beef sandwich. Thing was drier than British comedy. Not even the sauce could save it. They had me til then. If a cue can't make a good Beef Sandwich they lost my faith. 3 years of excitement just be let down. Now I know how prom dates feel.

Pulled Pork Special.

Built in 1965, with the hard curved plastic benches to prove it, set along a private drive in Sallisaw, Ok Wild Horse Mountain barbecue provides TRUE pride for the locals...as you walk in from the gravel parking lot, you smell the smoked ribs. A super friendly young girl told us about the special for $8.95 and that we could get a bag of chips for an extra dollar. I ordered the mild spiced pulled pork sandwich and my husband got the spicy brisket. You pour your own drink from the flu Ron into a styrofoam cup but I want you to know they only have Sweet Tea for the tea choices! Truly typical southern bbq. My sandwich was not even warm to touch but it was tasty as I added the side of beans into the sandwich spread. My husband's sandwich was warm but not spicy enough. He went back to get more sauce. If you are driving on highway 40 it's worth a stop to this local joint even just to see all the pictures of the famous guest on the walls. Thanks Trouper Henson for our reason to stop in Sallisaw and thank you ladies at the court house for the recommendation!!

Combination meal, rib and beef.

I was with my Oklahoma friends and they insisted we come here for lunch while we were still in Poteau. I couldn't understand why we had to wait for an hour for a barbecue when their was plenty of barbecue places in Poteau. I tried snacking on the way there and they insisted that I stopped so that I would be hungry when I get there. Was I ever glad I listened to their advice. We got the combination meal and it was a lot of food. The food was EXCELLENT, taste was definitely worth the wait. The price was reasonable and the service was nice. You have to order your food at the counter and they call your number when the food was ready. Place needed an update but you can ignore it, since the food makes up the lackluster decor.

Beef brisket leftovers... aka "sliced brisket". It was cold, bland, no smoke or personality.

After a lot of hyped up reviews over Wildhorse BBQ I went there to grab some BBQ to-go and here is my experience. Firstly, there seems to be a big misconception of what pork ribs are. Thinking I ordered spare ribs or baby backs, I care home disappointed to see that I had actually gotten a bone-in pork loin. Not only was the "rack" a pork loin I got the front cut where it is all white meat. It was sawdust dry with no hint of smoke and a poor pink ring that reminds me that I was at a BBQ restaurant There was inconsistent seasoning on the product but that doesn't matter, that doesn't fix dry meat. So there goes 5lbs of ribs. I also ordered sliced brisket. Instead I got what looks like shaved roast beef leftovers from a week beforehand. Their brisket also had no smoke flavor nor a hint that it was even smoked. If I known this was what I was getting I would be better off ordering from a supermarket deli. So there goes a pound of "brisket". Next item; smoked bologna. The only thing smoked about this bologna was from the Oscar Meyer factory the bologna came from. You can't mess up smoked bologna but you can here. I also got all three of their Mountain BBQ sauce. Mild, medium, hot. The consistency of this sauce was runny with no body. To each our own with the sauce. The flavor of the sauce had potential. It needs to a lot of "tightening" to concentrate the flavor and maybe then it would be OK. As for the flavor differences, the mild and medium tasted the same. The hot BBQ sauce had an annoying tingling sensation from some of the peppers they added but it was far from hot. Ive had black pepper spicier than their hot BBQ sauce and if you're looking for something spicy you're better off with a bag of flamin' hot Cheetos. Their beans were not good. I've also hear people recommending their beans as the best they've ever had. Do yourself a favor and buy the shortcut of Bushes Best beans from your local grocery store if you want a bean fix. Anyone saying this place is good has probably had a product from the past when they may of truly had good BBQ back in 1965. But from my experience this is the worst BBQ joint I've ever been to. It doesn't take a pit master to make "good BBQ". I'm not expecting a 2 star Michelin meal but don't go here with high expectations. The best thing here was the .25cent pickled jalapeño peppers. The atmosphere of the place looked dusty but has the character of a true smokehouse. It's a shame because the product of the kitchen did not fit the culture of the building. The lady at the counter was great but that's where the experience stopped. Anyone that says this place is good likes bland food. I'm not frugal nor do I possess a white color job with a six -figure income, but I regret every dollar of the $60 dollars I spent here.

Pretty rough environment. The price was great but didn't like the meat (stringy and dry).

We asked for one of the private rooms. We were being joined by people from out of town. They were quite rude
