We have driven by this place over the years but have never stopped. We found ourselves in the area at breakfast time and decided to give it a try and are glad we did. When you walk in you can smell the smoked meats that they smoke for their menu. My husband was going to order pancakes but decided to try the avocado toast, something I've made at home. He got two slices of toast topped with smashed avocado, two eggs over easy and chopped bacon. A small side of fresh fruit accompanied it. He enjoyed his healthy breakfast. I may order this next time. I ordered the Cajun omelette that came with a side of hash browns and toast. The omelet was huge and filled with andouille sausage, shrimp, crisp red and green bell peppers, onion and mushrooms. It was topped with a crazy delicious sauce. Almost half went home with me for lunch so I got to enjoy it again. We definitely want to go back and try more breakfast and lunch items. read more

Tried out the Red Door Cafe for breakfast. It is a cute little trailer in the parking lot of Club Destin where we are staying. The smoked meats radiate around the building during lunch time. We came for breakfast and I ordered the avocado toast and the hubs ordered the Cajun omelet. The omelet had tons of flavor and was topped with a rich cream sauce. The avocado toast was sooooo good. (If you like avocado toast!) I really enjoyed the egg on top and crumbles of bacon. Definitely will be back and look forward to trying their lunch and milkshakes. read more

We found this quaint little gem, unfortunately, as we were heading back to Ohio (8/10/24). If you haven't tried this place, GO! We were greeted with smiles, our glasses never went dry, and their coffee is really good! Our server, Pam, was awesome! Our food was on point, and the servings are huge! I generally enjoy this place and have had nothing but positive to say about it in the past. This time not so much. The service was absolutely terrible. We had to ask if we could get waited on after we had waited for over 30 minutes to order. The food like always was outstanding, but everything about our server was not up to any kind of standard. The picture on the menu looks like it's full of strawberries. We got home and it's cheesecake with canned strawberry topping on top. We don't eat cheesecake, didn't order cheesecake-so I called to see if I could get something else. I was told by a waitress (I presume) that the manager said you can't bring food back after it's left the restaurant-mind you-it was to go and was in a container when we got it. The food was good; however, our server must have thought that we were not going to tip because when we got our bill - we were not charged the prices that were printed on the menu. A 14-18% increase was added to every item. I saw it but still paid the bill AND tipped at least 20%. After contemplating, I called to ask what the increased prices were, and our server stated that "sometimes the system automatically adds a food tax" to the bill, but there was already a tax line item on the bill below IN ADDITION to the increased prices. She then stuttered a bit and changed her story - so I left it alone. Well needless to say - it appeared that she added her tip to the "food tax". Both items were $14.95 on the menu and look at what she charged us! We downright bynpeople and tip very good and this was a deceitful and dishonest. So sad because the food was good. read more

I'd stayed away for a while because of the bad reviews, I sense the way the old place closed has something to do with all the negative local vibe but don't know for sure. A caveat to my review, I never go to a restaurant when it is busy and I can't stand waiting so it was off season and a little later in the morning when we showed. Hostess was polite, sweet and seated us right away and then our waitress was super friendly and made sure we had everything we needed, started with just simple black coffee and water while we went over the menu. Coffee has a great aroma and slightly strong, just like I enjoy. My wife settled on the chicken and waffles while I had the brisket benedict, both dishes were large, delicious and perfectly southern. We are locals. We dined here about a month ago, so this is overdue. Waited 15 minutes without so much as being acknowledged. When finally sat, after another significant wait before seeing our server, we were able to order. Server never came back to check on us for anything until after food came and we were nearly finished. We ordered a mix of breakfast and lunch foods amongst the four of us. The food was very bland and lackluster. We then began the lengthy wait to get our servers attention to pay the bill and get out. Short wait on Saturday morning. Wait staff, hostess very attentive to our needs with 3 children in tow. Food took a bit longer than expected but was very good. Kids pancake was dinner plate sized, could have used some embellishments for presentation but they ate it up. So wife and I believe this is where the locals eat and as you know in a tourist town like Destin, knowing where the locals eat is important, come on we can eat at any McDonald's, so if your kids are spoiled to nuggets you don't have a shot at this, but these guys have a kids menu and there were kids there! Had the Cajun omelette, highly recommend, delicious shrimp, crab, andouille, jalapeño covered in a delightful hollandaise sauce with home style potatoes - yum can't say enough about the flavors, and not spicy. Cost was $15.95, but worth it! It's a big omelette, enough for two! The French toast $12.99 two pieces of bread and three strips of bacon, not worth it, good but not for the price. Its not even made with Texas toast, but lite enough for the petites. Anyway don't miss this gem, remember only open until 2pm, so get there! The Destin Cafe closed and the Big Red Cafe took its place. Unfortunately, It's a step down for Destin. I had breakfast ham and cheese omelet. The Chef used a couple slices of Velveta cheese substitute and a couple of slices of lunchmeat ham thinly sliced And diced. I figured the owner was just getting going. So I returned a week later for breakfast again. It says on the menue serving breakfast till 11:00 am. But sitting at the counter I was turned away at 10:45. The waitress said it was too close to 11:00. So you can't believe the menu. I suppose prices or dishes on the menu might also be a falsehoods. So I left and had a wonderful eggs Benedict at Cafe Destin just down the street at 985 US Hwy 98... at 11:30. It was great! The owner just started The Big Red Cafe. But it doesn't seem to be getting busy. That's probably the best thing I can say about The Big Red Cafe. No one seems to be going to it. So at least you can get a table. That has to be worth something. Because that is rare in Destin at tourist season! read more

Ordered for takeout... waitress was efficient, food ready promptly except for strawberry shake. Took forever... watched her mix ice cream (scooped with a tea spoon) and half and half, then poured it into a cup with strawberry syrup in the bottom, did not mix together, just topped with whipped cream and put the lid on. This took as long to make as the meal order and delivered with attitude. Food was fine but shake was horrible. We'll probably go back (we are locals) but will be much more conservative with the drink order. read more

Food is always good but today is the 3rd time we've left without getting our food. Only 4 tables seated in the restaurant and after 45 min still didn't have our order. 2 people sat next to us 10 min after we ordered and they received their meals and were finished before we gave up and left.
