We met at Jefferson's for a work class in there spacious meeting/party room. While we were having…read moreour class a delicious, buffet was set up with cheeseburger sliders, chicken wings, fried oysters, fries, and salad with any type of dipping sauce imaginable. Our drink orders were taken as we had sat down. The wait staff made you feel as if you had been there a million times. Very relaxed, comfortable, food was great, service treated you like family, bathrooms were clean. This is the place to go to hang out with friends, eat, watch the game, or have a work class. BTW- I did learn a lot from my class too.

Passing through town, my wife and I decided to stop at Jefferson's for a casual bite. I'd been once…read moreyears ago but couldn't remember much about it--so this felt like a fresh first impression. Service was warm and attentive, though with only a couple of other tables occupied, I would expect nothing less. My first drink, a flat Dr. Pepper, was quickly swapped out for sweet tea, which was far more satisfying. We started with the fried mushrooms, and honestly--they stole the show. Perfectly crisp on the outside, tender and juicy inside, and seasoned just right. We devoured every single one, which might explain why we struggled to finish our entrées. As for the mains, the roasted corn was cooked well but lacked seasoning, and the coleslaw was forgettable. My chopped steak had a nice mix of peppers and onions but arrived without the gravy promised on the menu, leaving it on the dry side. To top it off, when I asked for A1, it came in a tiny ramekin... with an extra charge. In the end, Jefferson's wasn't a disaster, but it wasn't memorable either--except for those fried mushrooms. If I ever return, it'll be for them and them alone.

In town for a conference and the restaurant was a block from my hotel…read more Inside is very casual. Kinda bar-like with a nice restaurant vibe! We sat at the bar since it was packed. Service at the bar was good considering every seat at the bar was taken. We ordered our food and it was out within 15-20 minutes. I ordered the Nashville hot chicken, but subbed the sides for the whole fried okra and Gouda grits. When I say those grits and okra hit.....somebody in that kitchen knows what they're doing! The chicken breasts were juicy and flavorful. The spice level was typical for Nashville hot chicken, which I sometimes I can't take. But I loved the flavor so much I couldn't stop eating it. I will eat here again when I return to the city!

I found The Southern Kitchen & Bar completely through Yelp and the Yelp reviews, and I am glad I…read moredid. When I came in, the place was crowded, which is usually a very good sign. It had a good energy right away. I had been looking at a few things on the menu and was really going back and forth. I was interested in the hot chicken, the Brussels sprouts, and also the ribeye Philly cheesesteak. They told me both were really good, and I ended up going with the ribeye Philly cheesesteak. Great choice. I also got a side salad with the chipotle ranch dressing and that was very good too. Picture below. For dessert, I was planning on getting the key lime pie, because that is usually my move, but Hayden my server talked me into trying the blueberry cobbler cheesecake instead. I am glad he did. It was very good. Picture below. Between the crowded room, the good service, and the food, this was a very strong experience all the way around. I am giving The Southern Kitchen & Bar 5 stars.
