This is hands down one of our favorite libraries! There's a ton of something for EVERYONE! They have teens section, kids section, a theatre I'm talking the works but the family section is why I'd say it's the BEST! The family section features soo baby things to do. For breastfeeding moms, there's a nursery for privacy. For moms with littles, there's an outside play area that's included. There's also classes for littles but register in advance because they do fill up. They also have tons of things to do throughout the month and a cute brochure to take home so you know what's happening when. The Hoover Library is always an awesome place to chill, attend an activity, or find resources. I've had paperwork notarized, wrapped Christmas presents, attended programming (pop culture panels, trivia, DND, board games, crafting, sing alongs, costume contests, movies, etc!), used the computers & printers, borrowed media of all sorts, and overall just had a fantastic time here. So grateful for this place. Currently they have a wrapping station for presents and it's wonderful to have a quiet space to wrap away from my kids. read more

The Hoover Public Library is a great place. They offer so many services beyond checking out books. They have events for the whole family, meeting rooms, computer labs, passport services, and more. They have an app that is easy to use. I used the passport services recently and it went so much more smoothly than going to the post office. If you haven't been, check them out! read more

I once considered this library to be the best in the State of Alabama, at least to the best of my knowledge, but they've gotten rid of so many physical books and repurposed study spaces that I can no longer make that recommendation. By moving the passport office to what was once a quiet study area valued by college students who could sit as a group at a big table, professionals, and researchers, I believe they've done a disservice to long-time and loyal patrons (and probably the people least likely to complain about it). The non-fiction area, which was once robust and a wonderful place to look for new (or old) book reads, has been nearly decimated, and now features almost-empty shelves. I believe a lot of these books removed are ones that you cannot find online. Once gone, they're gone. Thankfully the librarians are great, but at what point do you stop calling it a library (derived from the Latin liber, "book"). read more

Gosh I hadn't been here in several years!!! Something about being at the library while it's raining... so relaxing. All I needed was a window seat and a cup of black coffee. A vibe for me!!! Anyway, I attended a library week event here. The front counter staff were helpful. Directed me right to where I needed to go. Unfortunately, I did encounter one staff member who wasn't as welcoming. She needed to relax. This is a pretty nice size library with lots of resources. I definitely recommend checking out their event calendar to get in on the action. I honestly don't think there's a better Public library anywhere in the world. Everything in here has always been nice. Now I sit multiple times a month at a desk or a table and do remote/virtual work on my laptop and it's all great place to get things done. I also have gotten simple lunch options the last two times and they are surprisingly very yummy. And the servers are super kind and nice and helpful too. read more

Our family loves Hoover Library! (Actually, we love the whole Jefferson County Library Cooperative System, but Hoover is our "home" library). I use the Libby app every day to feed my audiobook habit (I'm approaching 500 digital check-outs). They are also partnered with Hoopla for additional digital resources. The Hoover Library has helpful librarians, comprehensive collections, and great programming for adults, teens, and kids. They have a good cafe, comfy seating throughout the facility, and quiet areas you can reserve to work. And who knew that you can apply for your passport at this location too? We made an appointment to do that recently and it was fast & friendly --totally pain free! The only thing that would be better is if they were dog-friendly! During the summer I usually have my lap dog with me. Not being able to bring him inside means that I don't visit the library in person as much as I would if the dog were welcome too. read more

I love the Hoover library. I come here for meetings, study, and fun times with my 7yo son. Check out the cafe, East 59. I have reviewed it extensively on their Yelp profile and I can reiterate that it is one of the best "batch brewed" cups of coffee in town and the seating/socializing areas near the cafe are great. What a great selection of books, videos, and games! As is true for any Jefferson Co libraries, they can get you pretty much whatever you want if you special request it. I alwsys feel warm and welcomed here whether I am here alone, with my son, or with a colleague. They have plenty of special events and special displays all through the year so check out their website to see what is happening soon! As you can see in my pictures, the hallway between the teen area and the cafe displays interesting artwork that rotates often. I was there today and will be back soon! read more

This by far is my favorite place. When I move back to Alabama a few years ago, I started going to the Hoover library and was throughly entertained. I was able to see some art shows, hear and see some authors, enjoy some live music and attend some informational seminars about Social Security, Medicare, taxes and wealth building. This library offers it all. Want to meet new friends, attend trivia night or game night. Meet a friend at the cafe. Sit outside and read a book or magazine on the patio. Just get there as quick as you can!!! read more

This is such an amazing library. Driving past it for years on 31, I had no idea just how expansive it actually. There are so many areas, levels, helper and of course, books!! Not only does the main level consist of tons of adult, teenage and kid resources, but it also has an ENORMOUS read area complete with an Edgar's Bakery. If you are all about the library experience, this is place to come. They also take their event calendar very seriously and make sure that there is constantly something to do. Everything from small gatherings to large fundraisers. If you explore beyond the main level, you will see the meeting areas and a full on theater downstairs. I took my daughter her on Monday morning for the sing and dance they have for toddlers. Let's just say this was a mommy hangout. The class was full and so was the kids section of the library. After the class was over we went outside to the toddler playground. Inside of the toddler section they have iPads already preloaded with educational games for kids. They also have puzzle, puppets, a train table, and a lego table. If you go to libraries website and pull up their calendar you can see the many different activities they have for the toddlers/kids and for what age group. We will definitely make more visit here this summer! read more

I have been going to this library for years its my favorite of all the libraries. What I didn't know was that their cafe food is delicious. The staff was very helpful in helping with my decision. I had the fifty Niner ham, turkey, a cranberry relish and havarti cheese on toasted bread it came with a side in which I had potatoe salad the whole meal was delicious. It was very clean and quite. I cannot say enough good things about this library. It really is one of the most life giving things for me. I absolutely love to read and this is the best place to get some R & R and some books. I go there as often as I can to rent a book, or a movie, or get a coffee from the East 59 cafe, or just sit and read. Every worker I encounter is always so nice and ALWAYS willing to help. The atmosphere is a little louder than most libraries, BUT if you need complete silence you can find it in the designated quiet area in the back. There are so many things one can do at this library. The things that I go here for: - Rent Books- since I am a Hoover resident if a book is not available I go to the top of the wait list. - Spanish classes- great teacher, nice students, and delicious cookies - Coffee and a snack from cafe- great area to enjoy a coffee, magazine, and the view. You can sit in the cafe, sofa(comfy chair) area, or outside. - Watch movies at the Monday night at the movies- each month there is a movie showing, including FREE snacks. - Sit and read- there are so many areas where one can read, do work, or just meet up with a friend. Renewing any item is very simple: you can call the front desk OR use your login and do it from the comfort of where you are. They also have something called Hoopla (for Hoover residents); you can rent books, movies, and other things thru the app for free. If you have never been to a library in a long time, do yourself a favor and check out this jewel in Hoover. Wow. This library is amazing. Definitely the best library I have ever been in. They even have a theater. Everything is up to date. I was able to download the library app on to my smart phone so I can download ebooks. I was also able to renew my books on my phone. Great kids area and lots of books for ask ages. Teens even have their own section. There is a lot of activities at the library for kids and adults alike. Check it out! read more

Not sure why anyone would give this facility anything other than a 5 star but oh well. I can't say much more than what the other 10 reviewers have raved about other than the fact that I love The Plaza. The center looks like a furniture store with Yuge couches with tables and chairs everywhere. The East 59 Cafe is located in the corner. They are rather new in that The Custom Cafe used to be in it's place. Custom Cafe has moved out to a more permanent storefront in Hoover past the Galleria and East 59 cafe has taken it's place here in the Plaza area. East 59 is a quaint little place, but don't let that fool you because they served a large assortment of food and beverages. Check out the pictures of their menu. I enjoy getting a simple coffee while working on my laptop with a great view from their large windows. The rest of the library is fantastic. They are modern with downloadable apps, building-wide wifi and pretty much every available resource you would need. If they rented pillows and blankets, you could probably live here. If you forgot your headphones, they sell them for a buck. I'm not sure if you can checkout a laptop or an ipad, but I know you can check out a Samsung note tablet for a week, put whatever you want on it and when you return it, they will wipe the memory. Of course there are ample terminals scattered throughout the building for you to get online. Hoover has poured a lot of money into this facility and it's a hidden gem for those who utilize it. read more

The library always has what I'm looking for (whether that's a book, DVD, CD, etc.) and is a nice place to relax! The parking lot can be a bit of a cluster at times, but I attribute that to the library's popularity. One of my favorite things about the library is that they have a "Cone of Silence" that is basically a tall, soundproof tube that people can walk into if they need to take a phone call. There's nothing worse than going to the library and having someone yapping away next to you while you're trying to get lost in a book or project. HPL is an asset to our community and I hope everyone can get the chance to check it out (pun kind of intended...)! read more

I had to stop in last week to pick up a book that is not available in book stores. This was the first time I had been in a public library in almost a decade and boy, was it absolutely magical. It brought back so many memories of infinite possibility from my youth. This library is incredibly well appointed and the selection is vast. The staff is friendly and getting a library card was easy and uncomplicated. I ended up picking several other books and wanted desperately to stay longer and just wander. A GREAT COMMUNITY ASSET! This is obviously a very popular library because we had to drive around a while in order to find a spot. I love libraries so I enjoy just checking them out when I am on vacation. Since my husband is interested in genealogy, he tends to go straight to reference. I like to just chill with a periodical. I love the openness of this library and the varied activities they have for youth and adults. They offer movies, (in their theater on the lower level), musical concerts, reading groups, speakers (such as parenting and health consultants) and more. If you live in the area, you really need to get to know this library and what it has to offer. I love that they have a nice cafe and substantial reading room on the main level that is perfect for parents who need a hangout while their kids are involved in activities. The reading room has a quiet TV and is furnished with large upholstered sectionals and chairs. I saw a couple of people taking naps while others were reading or working on their computers. The cafe serves light offerings such as cupcakes, sandwiches, cookies and chips. This library gives new meaning to serving the community. What a great asset! read more

Seriously one of the best libraries I've been to! So glad I found the Hoover library and so glad it's pretty close to my apartment. Honestly - if it weren't, I'd still trek here. It's just that good! I came here to study, but was so surprised at the amount of things this library has to offer I got distracted. #whoops Expansive book selection! (And they are neatly shelved and organized! #yes) Pretty large books on CD collection. They have a large CD and DVD section with a decent amount of newer movies. (Move over Netflix and Red Box!) One thing that I was kinda bummed about is the book on CD I checked out had scratches on it. #noooooooo I did alert someone at the front desk and they made a note of it. They also have also have resources and fun perks for patrons. Saw a flyer for free movie nights...yes FREE...with FREE snacks. Also saw info for Spanish classes. They have tons of nooks and corners with comfy chairs for you to get lost in a book! And it's not freezing in there. (It's the little things! ) They didn't have a lot of outlets near the chairs, but the study area has lots!. Didn't make it to their cafe - but I passed by the entrance and it smelled pretty good. #nom #nom And on a nice day, take your book or coffee --- or both --- outside to their outdoor area. Hands down, the best library I have ever seen. Even my bookworm stepmom who lives in Vestavia admits that it puts hers to shame! Countless activities for adults and kids, ranging from recurrent meetings for dementia caregivers to magic shows for the kiddies. Learn to knit, quilt, etc. Borrow paper books or ebooks! Borrow DVDs and music! Staff are friendly, extremely knowledgeable and eager to help. It's nice to encounter people who seem to actually enjoy their work. There are study rooms, a café, an atrium for leisurely reading and even a "Phone Booth" in which you can make or receive calls on your cell phone without disturbing other patrons. This library is massive, well stocked, well kept, and well... gorgeous! It truly is heaven for any book enthusiast. The kids section is where I spent a bulk of my time so I'll elaborate on that. It has a train table, puzzles, a literal pit of puppets, 6 iPads with educational games, a couch to lounge on, and an outdoor playground attached to this wing. You can log on line and request and then when its ready you can go right in and pick it up.Always getting stock with older things and always have the new up and coming. This is one of Hoover's greatest assets! Not even kidding. It has everything. Books, e-books, movies, study area, mobile app, magazines, café, computers, Wi-Fi. All you need is residence proof and you sign up for free. Use the app and checkout e-books. If they don't have a book they are tied into all the libraries in Jefferson County and they will get it from another library for you. Kid area, teen area, adult areas. They recently completed a renovation and it looks great. If your kid or you wants to sit on the floor and read it isn't a scary dirty thought. So clean in here. They have an AV section also. My wife recently binged watched all of Downton Abbey to get ready for Season 6 and she got all the DVDs free from the library. They send you an e-mail when the books are about to be due and you can renew right on the app. They have live readings, and speakers from time to time. The café is clean and well run. Do yourself a favor, go here, go often. read more

I have lived in many different states and have used the library everywhere and I can tell you my mother lives in GA and she said half the libraries are either closing or never have any good books.
