Store was small but clean and well decorated. They have a tablet at the front for easy ordering. We ordered birria tacos, birria rolls, horchata and a piña colada. Everything was amazing. And essentially expected I walk out without saying anything towards the missing items in my order. Decent food overall. Vegan chorzito we good, but felt disrespected. Don't let the fact that Big Papi's is located in an industrial part of Frederick scare you away from visiting. This restaurant offers some pretty good food (tacos, burritos, quesadilla, taco salad, nachos, fries, quesabirria pizza, churros, various sides, and several beverage options) that's worth the drive. Currently take out only, so don't expect to dine in. Ordering is pretty easy and can be done yourself on the touch screen or through one of the friendly employees. I ordered birria tacos, carnitas tacos (made it a combo- which comes with rice, beans, and a drink- for $3 more), Papi fries, and the kid's chicken quesadilla with fries (free! $2 more if you want to add chicken). Between the two tacos, I surprisingly enjoyed the carnitas one more. Both came with well seasoned, juicy, and tender meat, but the carnitas was just tastier for me. My mind may have been changed if I ordered a small consome, which I didn't realize you need to order separately with the birria tacos. Papi fries with carne asada were good, and surprisingly survived the 35 minute drive home. Did it remind me of the carne asada fries from San Diego, not quite; however, it still did the trick. I washed my food down with some horchata, which I appreciated remained cold despite no ice in it. If I'm in the area again and craving Mexican food, I'll head over to Big Papi's again. The love for this place isn't just hype. The tacos they serve up are well worth the five stars that (nearly) everyone has given them. Greeted immediately upon going inside, guy was friendly and explained how to order. I did have to remind the wife to exclude onions from her Big Papi, as she has a pathological hatred of the wonderful vegetables. The order screen is very well laid out, and easy to choose what you want/don't want. And it frees up the staff for doing the important work of bring me my taco! I went with the sole vegan opinion. Which was out of this world. I immediately wished I had ordered three or more. I will say that I do wish that they had more vegan/vegetarian options. We're very impressed with Big Papi's food. After two recent visits for carryout (no eat-in option), my esposa and I have developed a Big Papi's habit. The menu is not super long compared to a Tex-Mex restaurant, and your only option is carryout, but that's my entire list of complaints. Our first visit we were nearby, and put in an online order to try them out: a birria burrito, a couple of tacos - one shrimp and one rockfish, some beans and rice, queso & chips, and esquite loco street corn. It was all delicious, from the perfect corn tortillas to that ridiculously good corn, a creamy, buttery, pile of seasoned kernels. Yep, it wasn't too long before we had to return, this time driving all the way from home: a carne asada burrito bowl, more shrimp tacos, much more of that corn, and something called a quesabirria pizza, which I've never seen elsewhere but looked great in the photos. Wow. My wife, who is only a sometimes beef eater, was crazy about that "pizza", as was I. The closest I can come is to compare it with the best pot roast sandwich I've had, except better seasoned, nicely cheesy, and on a very tasty set of corn tortillas. It's also huge, so we ate off it for a few days. The various sauces were a great addition, not too spicy-hot for me, but well spiced. Many lime wedges added to the experience and freshness. The only meh note was the carne asada, which isn't bad, but can't compare with the birria beef. The counter folks were friendly and competent, and the order was ready when promised. Strong 4+ for this spot. Fantastic tacos in a carry out only restaurant in what looks like a business park. I would definitely come back for more. I went with the chicken tacos, hot Cheetos Mexican Elote corn, and chips w/ queso. The tacos were fantastic but I was not the biggest fan of the Mexican street corn, which if done right I am the biggest fan of. The queso was fine, seemed store bought to me but I could be wrong. I would have liked the corn to be grilled or cooked on skillet some for some charred taste/look and maybe some seasoning. I would guess that the corn was canned which is easier to make large quantities but tastes completely different from corn off the cob. A million times yes this place is a must if you love tacos. We ordered all the different types of tacos and they were all loved. We also ordered the caramel churros and I highly recommend it. Elote corn ordered in both Cheetos and regular - both loved. Got a side of guacamole and queso - all good. Stopped at Big Papi's while in Frederick for an overnight trip and loved it! We could smell the food before we even stepped inside. We stayed in the shop and watched as they made everything, everyone was hustling and it was great to watch the process. All of the stuff we got was tasty. My husbands favorite were the tinga tacos with both sauces. I couldn't decide between the birria ramen or carne asada tacos because I loved them both. The Birria tacos and the Birria Big Papi fries are my favorite items on the menu. But I also love the quesabirra which can feed a family of four. Give Big Papi's a try but definitely order ahead via online ordering. It's easy to do, but you don't have to wait too long. There is no indoor or outdoor dining in this establishment, so I recommend taking it for carry-out.
