He said would be done in an hour. 3 hours later he calls up and said tire needs replacement and I probably need to replace all 4 1000 dollar fix at least. I said I'd think about. Went back. Funnily enough the tire went missing. Also Ramon had stepped out. Now they said the tire was on its way to be disposed of by accident. I told them this could turn into a very big deal. Funny point two is that the tire suddenly turned up - of course disassembled. It also was damaged - with clear puncture marks and some white marking. I hate getting the ride fixed, (and more to the point hate paying to get it fixed) but I must say I have good faith in the guys at this Big O. I have gotten tires from them several times on several different vehicles. Today I went in to get two new tires for my company truck and was told I need a new radiator and a new radiator fan clutch. So the original $200 estimate went up to $785. They showed me the leak on my radiator and the loose fan, so I think that was honest. And I don't have to pay for it anyway. They do shocks and struts and wheel alignment too, as well as custom wheels and those expensive tires. Going to the mechanic isn't real fun, but you gotta do it to stay on the road. I called this morning to explore pricing for four tires and an alignment. I was fortunate enough to have Will answer the phone. Will informed me of a special they had running that could benefit me. He talked me through the numbers and compared the special pricing with that of a regular non-special tire set. The special they were running was in fact a better deal. I made it clear that I had a time crunch and if he could complete my installation by a certain time. "Come down and I will take care of you", Will said. I'm a 47 year old man and I've heard that before...but I was on a time crunch and he had the best deal I could find among four calls...so I drove over immediately. True to his word, Will had his team work on my car almost upon arrival, and the lot was packed with vehicles. Will is a seasoned professional who orchestrated a busy store with ease and a great attitude. He absolutely made this transaction the pleasure that it was. These guys were Awesome. I was trying to go to another tire shop and just saw this one on the ride there and pulled in. The owner was there i think and he was so nice and helpful. Very easy to work with. Not only did they get my tire changed before I got a chance to even use the restroom, but it was over $100 cheaper than one quote I got and $20 cheaper than the cheapest tire I found. A new tire for less than $98 dollars! Put on and all. It's unreal. I went into this place in a terrible mood but honestly, the owner was so great, I left in a good mood. This place is pretty great! I came here as I was trading wheels with another guy. It was a complicated process. In short, I needed the tires currently on the wheels on my car taken off to be put onto the rims that I was getting from the other guy and installed back on my car. The rims that came off my car had to go on the tires that were currently on the guys car and the rims that were on his car, in boxes. We arrived at about 545 to get started, quoted $16.99/wheel to be done. So $16.99x4 + taxes, about $74 OTD. That is a great price considering they dismounted, remounted, balanced and attempted to reset the TPMS on our cars. Chris at Big O Tires is the guy to go to. Him and Vick I believe. They were very helpful and knowledgeable people. During our wait (2 hours, reason for the 1 less star) , the guy I was trading wheels with and I were able to talk to him and he suggested many things to us. The other guy ended up even getting 2 tires for cheap. I'd go back here for anything related to tires and what not. They are reasonable for price and do the work very well. It was even cool cause some of the employees wanted to purchase the rims off the other guys car that he was taking off. Overall, this place is the place to go. If you go, ask for Chris. Price is competitive. Service is professional. It took three hours turn around to get new tires, and I had to come back the next day to get the wheels aligned, which took another 45 minutes. My main complaint is that they have only one bay dedicated for steering alignment and at least 5 or 6 tire bays, and they get bottlenecked because all these cars need that final check! Also, for what it's worth, my wheels on the left side came out all greasy and dirty. It wouldn't take much to wipe them off with a rag so that the new tires look good and leave the buyer with a nice warm and fuzzy feeling after I've dropped $1000 on tires! There is a reason this location gets such bad reviews. Employee Francisco is especially horrible to work with. I got a nail so dropped my car off for a tire repair. For two hours I was sitting in a café with full view of my car. After an hour and a half my car made it to the rack and I watched it sit up there for 30 minutes. After that, I got a call saying they couldn't find my wheel lug key. This is after they had my car for two hours, 30 minutes of which my car was ready to be worked on. Francisco told me he had been "looking for it "...seriously, why would you rifle through someone's car?! I was literally sitting by my phone, and yet it was two hours before he took the time to call me and ask where the key was. I could have answered this question in less than 30 seconds if someone had just taken the time to call within that two hour period. I did not have them do the work. Instead I picked up the car and Francisco was very unprofessional with me when I expressed how angry I was about the service. If it was possible to give this location zero stars I would have. Second bad experience at this this location and it will be the last time I use Big O anywhere. I'm also reporting Francisco to corporate headquarters for his aggressiveness. read more

i came here to replace 2 tires and they got me to buy 4. i was told i had warranty but when one of them had an issue just a few months after, i brought it back they had me buy another tire. also they broke my tire pressure monitor sensor. i brought my car back a separate time to have someone reset it and they told me they didn't have a MECHANIC?? on hand ?!? god finally when i went to a honda dealership for a recall they gave me a straight answer and told me the TPMS was broken and i had to replace it. thanks for nothing lol do not recommend, will not return. should have definitely taken a cue from the long string of bad reviews so you should learn from my mistake !!! read more

I had a good experience at Big O. It was the first time I used them. I came in for tires. Joe hooked me up right away. They told me I also needed front brakes (which I did). I had plans to get the brakes done later in the week somewhere else but they quoted me a competitive price and told me they could do it that right away so I went for it. The whole thing took about three hours. They were nice and got right to it - I appreciate that. I probably could have saved a few bucks if I'd pieced the work out (got the brakes done somewhere else) but getting everything done in one place saved me a bunch of time. read more

I took our car in for a free rotate and balance, but was told by the sales guy, Will, our car needed at least 2 new tires, but he suggested 4 since our car is all wheel drive. It took me a while to think about, especially since that was not why I was coming in and was taken aback by the car needing 4 new tires. After some thought, if it's unsafe for me to be driving, I should probably replace all 4. I asked Will to do a brake and alignment check too, and left. Will said it would take 2 hours. After an hour, I got a call from Will stating that my car not only needed brakes, but all 4 rotors too. This was socking to me! I called my regular mechanic and asked if this could be possible (the car needing this much work) since I saw them last and they said NO WAY. They felt like Big O was taking advantage of me. Now, instead of getting a FREE rotate and balance, I was up to almost $1600 dollars of unnecessary tires, brakes and rotors. I immediately called Will at Big O and told him I didn't trust their work, and that I wanted our original tires put back on and I would come pick up the car in 45 minutes. He then called me back numerous times telling me he'd have to charge me $20/tire to put the old ones back, each time in an aggressive tone, talking over me. Wait a second! I bought those tires from Big O, I have free rotates and balances for the life of the tires. They should rotate them for FREE! Right? I will never be back here, or any other Big O. I've called and made a formal complaint to their corporate office and I'm thinking of calling the police to get our car back. Update: I called Big O the next morning, and asked to speak to a manager. Ramon was very polite and said he wanted to make things right. He said he wanted to speak with the other manager to see what to do with me. After an hour, he said come and get your car and we won't charge you for putting the tires back on. I came to pick it up, and luckily Will wasn't there, he was a scary guy. Ramon said that my tires was being aligned for free, so I waited. Then the other manager brought my car around, apologized, gave me a card for a free oil change and said Will, the original, aggressive guy I dealt with will be punished. For how the managers dealt with the situation, I'll raise my review a star. I appreciate what they did for me, but they shouldn't have someone like this working for them. A couple months later, my front wheel came off while I was on I-80, nearly causing a major collision and ending my life. Claims investigator, dealership and police determined it was due to the lug nuts on the wheels being loose because Big O Tires did not tighten them properly. Today we have a wonderful experience at this Big O Tires location! I called this morning to get a quote on a set of tires. Pablo R. was super helpful and informative. Even though they were out of stock on the brand we could afford, he offered to honor that price and set us up with a better brand of tire. When we arrived at the location he checked our car out with us and was honest about the good tread on two of our four tires, instead of trying to make us buy all four new ones. We didn't feel like he was overly trying to up-sell us. He respected the fact that we were on a tight budget and helped us find the most affordable way to get our car in great shape. Please do not take your vehicle to this location. I had a horrible experience with the employees here. I originally went in for four new tires and found out that my power steering fluid was dirty, I needed new back rotors as well as back brake pads. All in all I spent around $1300. When I left the location a sensor was appearing on my dashboard. I brought my car back the next day just for them to tell me that I needed a sensor in my tire replaced. Mind you that the light was not on when I came to Big O tires. So they ordered the sensor and told me to come back the next day. I brought my car in around 930 not only did my car sit until 130 when it finally got serviced they were lowering it off the lift and lowered one side of the lift and nearly dropped my vehicle on the shop floor. The employees acted completely unprofessional and nonchalant regarding the incident and tried to rush me off the lot after charging me. Having gone to Big O on multiple occasions for purchasing tires, I felt confident that they could take care of my battery replacement needs since they were within walking distance of my workplace. One year ago, I bought an Interstate battery and they installed it without any issues. I did notice that the plastic casing on the battery looked used and dirty. But, the car started up fine and if the core anode and cathode components were new, then that's what mattered. Flash forward to one year, and my car battery gets drained simply from leaving the keys in the ignition for an hour (headlights or any lights not on, radio off, and definitely zero mobile devices charging). I took the car back to Big O, thinking they would test and replace the battery at the very least. I waited for over an hour and would have waited longer if I didn't get up and ask. I was told the battery tested fine and there would be no replacement needed. The battery died again under the same circumstances and I called AAA roadside assistance to give me a jump start. AAA inspected and tested the battery. They found that it was not performing well even after the jump (and showed me the results on the device). It was also discovered that my battery was dated from over two years ago even though I had purchased it only one year ago! The AAA driver let me know that it was his experience in the field that the Interstate batteries start having issues around year two. Not wanting to deal with wasting more of my time with Big O, I simply replaced the battery with another brand from a competitor. I would only go back to another Big O store for tires in the future, and probably not at the Berkeley location, unless it was an emergency warranty situation. read more

Today I went there to change the oil on my car, without long details my experience was bad, rude people, every one of them is bad in fact they completa each in idiocy. What pissed me off is that they finished my car and they failed to notify me, I waited over one hour more then what I have to. BEWARE OF THIS PLACE!! BAIT AND SWITCH!! DECEIT!! I bought a full set of tires. 10 days later one blew out as I was driving. The tow truck driver who changed the tire said it looked to him like it was a defect in the tire. So I took it back to Big O. They later called and said that there was a gash on the side of the tire and it was not a defect. I asked them to save the tire so I could inspect it and to put on a new ($100+) tire. When I arrived to pick up the car, I asked to see the tire. They presented a tire and the FIRST thing I said was "THAT'S NOT MY TIRE" (it was too worn looking for a 10 day old tire). They said yes it was and then showed me a screw in the side of the tire. I replied that was not what I was told was the problem. They said their mechanic had not seen it at first (looked pretty obvious to me), and there was no gash on the side of the tire, so I took photos of the tire. They said they would again offer to sell me their Road hazard (extended) warranty for all 4 tires (which would have covered the blown tire. I acquiesced and I paid for the tire and the warranty ($154). After I got in my car, I compared the photos of the blown tire to my original invoice - the SERIAL NUMBER ON THE TIRE DID NOT MATCH THOSE ON MY SALES RECEIPT!!! I was right - it wasn't my tire! I went back in and pointed this out to the salesman. I said "I believe there WAS defect and rather than honor it, you drove a screw into the tire." He denied it. I said where's the gash I was told was on the side of the tire? How could someone have seen a gash that didn't exist and miss a screw that was plain as day? How do you explain the fact that the serial number does not match?!" Instead of answering, he asked what he could do to fix the situation for me and offered to refund the cost of the tire. I said I would accept that. THEN CAME THE 2nd BAIT AND SWITCH. INSTEAD what he did was refund the $50 cost of the Road hazard (extended) warranty, not the cost of the tire. But assured me that the warranty on my tires would still be in effect even though he'd refunded the fee. Yeah, I'll believe that when I see it.... read more

Bought tires here a few years ago and came for free rotation and balance (which I've done before), plus I had a tire go flat yesterday. First, they couldn't find my info on the system and asked me several times if I bought my tires from that location, which I did. Then, they couldn't find the leak and returned my car to me. Shocked, I went home anyway. I came at opening to get it fixed so my wife could have the car. When she got in to leave and started to back up, the tire went completely flat and I could hear the hissing of the leak. After pumping it back up, getting kid out of car and my wife missing her appointment, I'm sitting here waiting for them to find the leak again. I signed up on Yelp just to write this review since I have time on my hands in the waiting room. I've had various dealings with this business over the last 20 years. Some good, but there's been enough negative experiences, where all things considered, I try to avoid them. That being said, I was driving on my donut tire and was looking for a same day set of new tires. Big O in Berkeley was the only store in town open that said they had tires for my Subaru outback in stock. So I bit the bullet. I drive down in the early sunday morning, they pull my tires and then tell me that in fact they don't have the tires... but they're sending their guy to go get some. Many hours later, and a Sunday morning lost, I am back on the road... but with a wobble. It's minor, and so I figure I'll just deal with it till I get the tires rotated. I'm not so great at finding time to rotate tires. So when I eventually pick up a screw, I decide to head back to Big O for a flat repair, tire rotation and rebalancing. I call up to ask if now's a good time, they say come on in and we'll get you done. The tire repair and rotation are covered as part of the original contract (though the salesman hinted the screw might be too close to the edge to be repaired. Which imho was crazy talk.) The balancing will be $80. I didn't expect such a hit considering the tires wobbled right from the get go. I decide against paying since if their original balancing allowed for such a wobble, an extra 80$ balancing is unlikely to change that. So just a rotation and a possible flat repair. The guy says it'll be two or 3 hours to get it done. Dang, I just called to ask about the schedule. So I take my keys back and go across the street to Orozcos, and they have me on the road in less than 20 minutes. (Those guys have always done me right) Just as an aside, I realize that the staff and management of Big O had changed multiple times over the years, (and this might not be relevant) but my two previous gripes are these: 1) I spent a couple thousand dollars there on a brake overhaul for my van and still couldn't brake safely. 2) They used to not use a torque wrench to finish tightening the lug nuts, and they broke off several lug bolts on an Isuzu trooper. Then they wanted $100 per lug to repair the damage their faulty methods caused. In any case, I will never shop Big O again. read more

Can't recommend this place. Here's why. When I was asked what quality of tire I wanted I said I was looking for something inexpensive, nothing special. First price was $175 a tire. Huh? What part of inexpensive do t you understand? I was then showed a $95 tire but $15 a tire insurance fee or something. No thanks, don't want that. Finally got a deal that seamed fair. I asked when it could be done, "oh we will get it going right now." I went to lunch. 45 minutes later it's still sitting in the lot. All I can say is, I've been sitting here in this waiting room now for over three hours and I still don't have my truck and new tires.
