Wow. I'm a bbq connoisseur from North Carolina but have had BBQ at hundreds of places across the US and I can easily say this is top 3 I've ever had and maybe even number 1. Don't let the small place fool you, it looks very unassuming but wow was I impressed. I had a pound of brisket and it was so tender and juicy and flavorful. Had a half rack of ribs and wow it literally melted in your mouth. The sauce on the ribs was fantastic but the yellow sauce for the brisket was out of this world. The mustard based sauce was unlike any bbq sauce I've ever had and had a nice little kick to it as well. The mustard slaw, which I had never even heard of, was delicious. It's certainly a strong mustard base but if you like mustard you'll love it. I don't normally go for dessert as I'm carnivore but I was so impressed with the meal I knew I had to try the desserts. I had the carrot cake and the butterfinger cake. Wow. Both were the bomb but if I had to pick a favorite it would be the butterfinger and I'm not even a huge butterfinger person. If you live within an hour of this place do yourself a favor and go here. I'd just about fly from NC just to eat here again. read more

Big Man's Platter is the best value on a BBQ platter you'll ever see anywhere. $28 fed our family of 5 with leftovers and food was EXCELLENT quality. Best Bbq in the shoals!!! I got the brisket nachos. The brisket is really good. A lot of places do brisket wayyy too salty and dry, this place was just right. I could really taste the true flavor of the brisket without it being overwhelmed with seasoning and it just fell apart. I can't wait to go back and try the ribs. Looking for good barbecue and talking to some of the locals led us to this small diamond in town. The smell walking into this small family run business was amazing. I had shredded rib meat on a baked potato that was freaking massive, truly three meals worth. My dining companion had the brisket salad and loved it also. Next time I am in the area, I'll be back to try something else. read more

I've somehow come late to finding out about Big Man's BBQ as it's been around for a year now and I'm just finding out about it. I saw the great (High) ratings that people were giving it and wondered that this just couldn't be right that it's that good and I didn't know about it. Well, it IS THAT GOOD and without a doubt is the BEST BBQ Chicken, ribs, and Brisket that I've had in the Alabama Shoals area. My first introduction to his BBQ was to choose the Chicken and it was so tasty that a few days later I came in and ordered the "Big Man's Platter" which had just about everything on it. From that experience, I formed this review and my thoughts about his products. While I still think that the Chicken is the Best BBQ Chicken in the Shoals I was blown away by the ribs and Brisket such that I, now, can't decide which is the best as they are all "JUST THAT GOOD"! "Fall off the Bone" describes both the ribs and chicken as the Chicken is cooked, and smoked, perfectly to where it is so tender and tasty. Everything has that just perfect smoke-infused flavor that you crave from a Southern BBQ restaurant. The sides were good but no match for the main product although you can tell that the owner/cook is proud of his product and takes time to make sure it's done right. The BBQ Beans were also very good and I usually have it with either Potato Wedges or crinkle-cut fries. Kudos for the homemade and very tasty Banana Pudding I had for dessert. If you are like me and go for the Big Man Platter to sample everything If there was any negatives/con it would be striving to find something at all but to be fair all places will have some. Big Man's BBQ does have limited indoor seating and honestly as good as this place is you can well expect that around prime lunch hour, there may be a wait to be seated so you might need to make it a take-and-go lunch order. Still, there is room to eat inside and enough tables for quite a few patrons so it isn't that bad but when it comes to looking for something negative to say, as good as his product is, you almost have to make up something to find anything negative. If you are looking for a new/great/good/excellent BBQ restaurant in the Shoals area I highly encourage you to try out Big Man's BBQ. read more

FINALLY found my go to bbq in Florence. Our son is a baseball player at UNA so I thought we'd discovered every great place to eat. Apparently not. Big Man's BBQ is fantastic. My wife had the pulled pork sandwich. The meat was tender, lean and smoked to perfection. Paired with their outstanding sauce it was delicious. NOTE: The sandwich comes with a spicy mustard slaw on it so if you aren't good with that ask for no slaw or like my wife did; slaw on the side. I ate the slaw and really liked it. I had the smoked meatloaf sandwich. WOW....it was sooo good! It comes with onion and Thousand Island dressing on it but I ordered no onion and the dressing on the side and instead put that great sweet, tangy, spicy bbq sauce on it. I did try a couple bites with the Thousand Island on it and it was really on point but I love the bbq sauce so much I used this instead. I discovered too late that they also have a smoked meatloaf plate. I'll get that next time for less bread, more meatloaf! The crinkle cut fries were standard but even better dipped in the bbq sauce! I wanted potatoe wedges but they were out that day. Didn't try any dessert......maybe next time. I called the day before to make sure of their hours. Spoke to Big Man himself. In our visit I met him in person (and yes, he's a big man) as he came out to speak to customers, a trait I always appreciate. Love it when an independent owner operator takes the time to insure customer satisfaction. Long and short we will definitely come back. The brisket and ribs are on my radar. They have a couple combos that come with basically all their proteins. Might split with my wife next time. DO NOT SKIP THIS PLACE! Small facility and not a ton of tables but aren't those always the best places? Certainly is in this case. Wish he sold sauce for at home! Kudos to Big Man! read more

Great Spot! I have had BBQ in Nashville, Memphis, KC, San Antonio and parts in between lately. This place stood out for the ribs and Brisket I ordered.
