First of all, their prices are ridiculous, I mean, ridiculous, they are so... cheap:) The food is so good. They are so nice. The ambiance is basic, simple and you are reminded how cheap the food is because they aren't going out of their way to impress you with anything but the food and their pleasant attitudes, which is to say: they got their priorities straight. It wasn't bad and the price was reasonable. Not really crazy about the way that they make their bbq pork sandwiches. They piled a bunch of mustard based coleslaw on the sandwiches which makes the buns a soggy mess and tends to drown out the flavor of the pulled pork. I'm thinking that this might be a regional style but I wasn't impressed and neither was my wife. read more

I have been coming to this restaurant for many years. The food is very good. The staff and management are very polite and friendly.

A recurring theme in life is rivalry. For some it's Alabama and Auburn, for some it's cars or trucks, for some it's to be or not to be, but in this town it's BUNYANS or DICK HOWELLS. I'll not be taking sides, but I will tell you dick Howell's is a 5 star establishment. The food is an absolutely on point example of southern BBQ done right. They've got daily specials, but one of my favorite go-to is an "extra hot" slaw dog (you've got to ask). As I sit here writing this review I just finished consuming my third one and baby, I FEEL ALIVE!!!!! God bless America and god bless DICK HOWELL's! First time trying, very disappointing. Sign on door saying mask required, not a single employee war wearing a mask. Menu online says 1 free side with sandwich, we were charged for our sides and worst of all the pork had no taste. From now on we will stick with Bunyans. read more

Fantastic food. Not oversmoked and dry like most KC BBQ. The ribs are to die for. The mustard slaw is the best slaw I have ever had.

Don't bother. They took the order of the 2 people in front of me. They ordered BBQ. Then after waiting, asked me what I wanted. He immediately said they don't have the meat for my order. Didn't check, nothing. A BBQ place with no BBQ? Or just no BBQ for me? Seems fishy. Didn't suggest anything else. They acted like they didn't want my business. Maybe they don't want yours either. I called your Florence location and was told I could drive over there. No Thanks I dont cross the river any more than I have to. I am still searching for good Bar B Q in Muscle Shoals. This is a great place for great bar-b-que and has been here for many many years. They even have a small dining room you can eat in. It is in a good location near Seven Points in Florence. It is a great value for delicious food. Must try their whole smoked chicken. Gotta go there!!! read more

Third-generation owners, in business over 70 years, cooking in the same pit for over 40 - doing it the old-fashioned way and for sure doing it right! I got the Tuesday Special - 1 BBQ sandwich and 1 hot dog, both with the hot slaw. So good! I was visiting Florence from Huntsville and just got lucky I found Dick Howell's. After I ate lunch, I bought 2 lbs of BBQ and 2 pints of hot slaw to take home! read more

This place is second-rate by local (north Alabama) standards. It is take-out only. The lady at the counter was downright surly. The shredded pork BBQ had an excess of fat and gristle in it. There are many better BBQ places in this part of the country to spend your good money on and get a good, lean, well-prepared product with friendly service. read more
