My favorite BBQ in the area. First time we went to Brook's to eat pulled pork but also bought a 6 piece wings with no sauce. The pork sandwich was great but the wings were amazing! Wings smoked to perfection! We literally drove right back to Brook's and bought 24 more. We've typically waited a few minutes for our orders, but I didn't mind. The ribs have always been my favorite, but since they were out, my husband and I ordered wings. I got the lemon pepper and my husband got another flavor. Unfortunately, my wings were not edible because they were way too salty. My husband agreed. His were good. Somebody forgot they had seasoned mine and seasoned it twice I guess. Came to Tuscumbia Al, to visit our son and he mentioned this small BBQ place that he swore upon since I'm a big BBQ guy, well let me tell you, hands down in my top 3 small BBQ joints I've gotten from. Prices were amazing and the guy there that took our order really hooked us up when we got to talking and I told him we were here on vacation and that my son swore by the place. Now that I'm grown and moved away, I always make it a point to stop by and purchase a family pack of pulled pork. This restaurant is small with maybe seating for 10 people at most, so most customers get their food for to go. My favorite is their pulled pork sandwich and slaw dog. This is the perfect sack lunch that is very budget friendly. The family pack (pulled pork) includes pork, buns, slaw, hot sauce and a larger bag of chips. Yum. This is delicious BBQ! When I eat BBQ I am food-focused. The restaurant itself is small and very casual, and tbh not super clean (bathrooms, ew). But the RIBS! Excellent. Lots of food for $9-$10. Coleslaw and potato salad were mustard/mayo based, which I appreciate once in a while. The baked beans were interesting and different, tomatoey & green peppers. 3 words Hot BBQ sauce! Brooks is a highly praised and awarded BBQ institution established in the 60s and is still family owned and operated today by the second and 3rd generations. Today was my first visit to the tiny famed 3 table top restaurant. Small unassuming building set in a mixed use area of the shoals. I drove right past it the first time. The menu is limited to BBQ pork, chicken and ribs with basic sides including beans, slaw and potato salad, chips,wings hotdogs and pie. For roughly $7.00 I got a large pork sandwich chips and a bottle of water. The sandwich is served with hot sauce and slaw. I passed on the slaw and got the sauce on the side. The hot sauce was surprisingly awesome! Vinegary and spicy! Quite a kick if you're heat adverse. The sandwich was not piled extremely high in the manner in which you generally expect with shredded pork rather layered with pulled chunks of tender well seasoned pork. Your meal is prepared to order and takes a couple minutes. My 2 coworkers and I took up 1/3 of their seating options for the place and were the only party to dine in during our time there. Seems as though takeout makes up the bulk of their business. 52 yr old Family owned and operated with walls adorned with awards and news paper articles must be doing something right! Holy crap, we knew this was a popular spot and looks like a dive, but the food still surpassed our expectations. Rib platter and a BBQ pork platter with two drinks and an order of Cajun wings was just under $30 so it's a fair price for the quality and amount of food they give you. This is the best pork bbq sandwich we have ever had. The meat is moist and tasty and the mustard slaw can be mild or hot. The sandwich is made fresh so you will have it fresh and hot each time. The slaw dogs have the same slaw. They also are made fresh. Each time we go we are greeted with a smile and welcomed. I am glad that a friend recommended Brooks to me while I was down in Muscle Shoals for the week. This was such a cute little place and super cheap. I felt like I was eating in my grandma's kitchen. I ordered a BBQ sandwich and a side of potato salad for less than $5. The sandwich was a perfect size for lunch and had just enough sauce on it to not be dry and not be too messy. The potato salad tasted home-made and left me wishing I would have ordered a larger portion. With Brooks Barbecue as the top choice, I drove over, ordered two BBQ plates, which included BBQ, a bun, and 3 sides (baked beans, cole slaw & potato salad). The BBQ pork was perfectly cooked, tender, tasty, and lean. The BBQ sauce was spicy and tangy, exactly the way I love it. The sides were excellent and a perfect accompaniment to the BBQ. I see why this place is always crowded, with loyal customers coming from all over to enjoy the tempting fares offered by this establishment. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and provided a personal touch to each and every customer in the restaurant. We were Brooks fans, big fans. But our last visit was very disappointing. Pulled pork very greasy, Cold slaw seem old. We tried some wings, the plain ones were great the hot ones were not but it could be an acquired taste. The people were very nice and I would give it another try next time we visit the area. I called ahead so I would not have to wait, and waited 40 minutes anyway. The half chicken was good, but the ribs were awful. No smoke or rub flavor and very dry. The potato salad was very good, the baked beans were different. They had some spice like ginger or allspice in them along with white pepper. It gave them a flavor I've never experienced before. They were OK. I did not like the hot slaw. The hot BBQ sauce was hot, but did not have any flavor. Not worth the wait. Will go elsewhere next. read more
