The people of Fayette have spoken and Sam's is the favorite BBQ spot in town at least according to…read morethe few locals I asked. Several of the aforementioned locals specifically praised the wings and potato salad. Based on a few glowing recommendations a friend and I have them a shot. We each had the smoked wing plate and we each had the potato salad. For $9.00 you get 8 jumbo smoked wings and two sides. The wings had great flavor. My only recommendation would be to maybe offer a sauce vs packet Texas Pete and the 2 house Bbq sauces. They are famous for smoked chicken so a white sauce would have been nice. Fortunately, I really like Texas Pete and it was a nice accent to the smokey flavor coupled with the house made ranch for dipping. Ribs, wings and smoked chicken are among what appeared to be the most popular items. Sides are basic BBQ joint options with good potato salad (no sweet pickle relish in the loaded potato salad). I went against my norm and didn't order the onion rings. That was my mistake, which I won't make again when, not if, I go back. I saw them on a few other people's plates and they appeared to be hand battered real deal! The house sauce is a mustard/ vinegar base with a sweet finish. They had a second sauce with a traditionally deep red hue that was smokey and sweet. I personally do not care for sweet BBQ sauce. My buddy really liked the gold colored vinegar / mustard based sauce. The people were friendly and the parking lot was full around 11:45. The interior was clean and well maintained. We actually got the last available table at the time, which didn't deter people from ordering and cozying up to smaller parties not occupying their entire space. Shining example good small town mom and pop BBQ operation. They finished 2nd overall in AL.com poll of Tuscaloosa readers for best ribs in 2014. I will be back and if for whatever reason you find yourself in Fayette, Alabama I would absolutely recommend giving this little place a shot!

Dare I not give 4+ stars as everyone else seems to do? Yep!!!…read more The 'cue was basically good. Cole slaw excellent. Beans very good. Personally, I prefer thick sliced brisket. This was pulled. Flavor was just okay, needed a little salt. Tables at lunch are never cleaned. All the staff never ventures out into the dining room... they are in the kitchen.

Will edit this after I eat, looking forward to trying it out. Friendly staff, and opened January…read more2025. You can call ahead and place an order. There is limited seating space, so plan to take it to go or have it delivered with either grub hub or door dash. Hush puppies are smaller than what I would expect, but you get 4 as a small. Medium is 8, and large is 16. Upgrade to at least an 8, because they will be gone too quickly and you will wish you had more. Flavor is good, a little on the salty side but that is a plus for people who love salt. Tartar sauce tastes freshly made, but has a hint of spicy sweet pickles (not dill, unless it is a mix of both). One odd mix is it comes with a slice of white loaf bread (not homemade nor is it toasted with butter, which is almost what I would expect with a fish plate). It was separated from the baked beans with parchment paper, so the bread did not get messy nor moist - but I would like to see this elevated to something else. The baked beans are basic baked beans. Not much flavor, so if you like blandish beans they are ok. I will skip the baked beans next time and try a different side item. The catfish is the main feature in this dish. It is fried with a seasoned batter, this is probably where the salt comes from in the hush puppies. The fish goes well with the tartar sauce, but I ran out of that with the first fillet (so get at least two tarter sauces). There are portions of the fish with more seasoned fried batter than fish. One plus side for those with kids is I did not run across any bones. I think next time I will try their bbq baked potato, double down on the jalapeño hush puppies and order before they cook too many catfish fillets. I think 4/5 is a fair rating. It is not "catfish cabin" from my childhood, but nothing ever is. It did satisfy a catfish craving, and for those who want catfish - it is at least is a decent option.
