Just passing thru: Decent BBQ with a friendly staff. Wish they would upgrade the seating area. I really don't like to sit on stained and dirty chairs. The sides I ordered were good but the chicken dressing I ordered was not what I expected. I thought it was chicken and dressing not chicken dressing. Consequently, not much chicken in the dressing.
Pulled chicken was on point. Brisket was moist and good. Just not the way I am used to it being from Missouri. Turnip Greens were awesome as well. Overall very good food and service. Will be back to try more options next week . Inside of place smells so good could get full off the smell.
Loaded Barbecue chicken baked potato...It's ginormous!!! And delicious!!! I am traveling through and needed to grab a quick lunch. I called ahead so that it would be ready when I stopped by. Everyone I encountered was exceptionally nice and the food is amazing. The facility is a modest metal building with a small seating area inside and a large parking lot , but don't let that stop you from trying this delicious food. I will be swinging through here again next time I'm traveling through.
The food is sooooo good I mean DAMMMMMMMMMMM GOOD. I crave itALL THE WAY IN CALI. the staff is friendly and kind fast service food comes out quick. The restaurant is like going to a family reunion you never wanna leave.
Parking lot is a rough place--lots of missing chunks of asphalt. I don't think they are open at dark, so that's good--just be cautious. Inside it is a BBQ joint. The floors are clean, tables are clean, and the fixtures need a little attention/TLC. I walked in and it was a bit confusing. There was a kind lady (customer) who motioned me in mentioning that she had already placed her order. I waited in line to place my order...one to eat here and three to go. When I got to the register they asked me to have the seat at a table--they would be right with me for both orders. They were really slow, but held to their word...in 15 minutes after I walked in I had placed my order. My food was on the table less than 5 minutes after I ordered. The employees were hustling/-they weren't sitting around. They just need a few more good workers like the ones they have is all. The sweet tea is REAL. If you are from the north and want to try it, this is the genuine article. The Caramel Cake is AWESOME. You won't find better... if you do, please message me because I'd like to buy a slice of what you found. Their Sunday Menu is basic...I went against the norm and ordered Chicken and Dressing . Big portions--I couldn't eat it all. The green beans had a unique flavor...not my thing. It was interesting...just not my thing. The Yams were delicious/-near perfect. The Chicken and Dressing was good. I wish it had a little more chicken in it, but it was well done and not over the top with sage or celery like many. This review nearly end it has a three star. It was good--just expected more chicken from a BBQ joint for a $15 plate. Give me less sides and more chicken. I was impressed by two things as I started to leave--1. The friendliness of the staff and genuine caring about the quality of what they have presented. 2. The remarkable cleanliness of the restroom. Four stars for me.
I was passing through Decatur on my way home to lower Alabama for Thanksgiving. I had eaten at Big Bob Gibson's before so I wanted to try what else Decatur had to offer. I looked up BBQ on Yelp and found Scruggs. I was sold when the review said large portions and best brisket ever. Scruggs is west of Decatur and a pretty small place. But it does have a pig with a cowboy hat smilling on the wall and you know what that means? The bigger the smile on the pig, the better the BBQ. There are not many tables but it was busy left and right. I was confused if I had to order at the counter but I was told to sit if I was dining in. First thing, large sweet tea was refreshingly sweet. I've been living up North too long that I mis this kind of sweet tea. I ordered a combo plate and I asked my waitress which 2 Mears should I have. She said the brisket and ribs. The ribs were good but they had a hard outside with the meat inside to be more tender and tastier. The brisket was unique but really good. The best way I can describe it is it looked like brisket but tasted like a grilled steak. I don't know how they prepare it but it is worth another visit. I had potato salad, Mac and cheese, beans and cornbread as my sides. I didn't ask for the beans but the kitchen goofed. I'm sure glad they gave them to me because the beans was better than anything else. They were homemade and had a sweet Smokey taste. The potato salad was chunky and mustard base. Mac and cheese was solid. Cornbread was too dry for me. There are 2 sauces and both are exceptional. There is the sweet and tangy ketchup base and the tangy white sauce. The brisket, beans, sauces, and sweet tea were fantastic! The ribs and other sides were good but not my favorite. This is more like a 4.5.
The food is delicious! Had lunch there today. Got the half-chicken plate. It was smoked nicely and fell apart. The greens were tender and good! The baked beans tasted good. The serving of a side of fried okra is huge! The okra were pretty good but didn't taste any pepper in the batter which I am used to..but I'd get these again for sure. I also recommend the cornbread. The white sauce is a tasty complement to the chicken. More sweet than vinegary and peppery. No desserts today though . This place also does pork butt fundraisers which are delicious...and awesome if they pull the meat for you like they did our fundraiser! Oh..and I saw potatoes walk by and they are HUGE!
Absolutely amazing food and very friendly customer service! Large portions and you won't leave hungry, but Itis induced!
I got the brisket with greens and baked beans The brisket was great, melt in your mouth but the sides were not anything special. The meal wouldn't have been as good as it was if it wasn't for their barbecue sauce. The people were nice and the food came out quick.

This place is a roadside gem. The bbq is done right, the sides are spectacular and Miss Nicole, the queen bee of the front of the house is hustling to get your meal out to you fast. I've now eaten just about everything on the menu. There is simply NOTHING on the menu that isn't superb. This place is a gem. read more

Was looking for some good southern bbq to head to the hotel with....for me this wasn't it so I'll break it down this way(1)the Mac & Cheese was an easy 10 no doubt (2)the baked beans in my opinion was 8.5 the finely ground bacon was excellent...never had beans that way.(3) The cornbread I give a one...it was dry and so flavorless that the "no flavor" it had even less flavor (4)The ribs...about the ribs...they were on the tough side definitely not "fall off the bone" the best Thomas the smoked flavor over all a 4.5...(5) The sauce....between the sauce and the Mac and cheese and throw in the cornbread that for me was the saving grace of this place the next time I'm in Decatur my bbq visit won't be here to many other places to go to give this one a second try....sorry Scruggs. read more

So I was about to give up on 'cue around here. This place was gonna be my last shot. Boy am I glad I went! First off, you can actually smell wood burning. Kind of a hallmark every 'cue joint should have. Second, the ribs had the first honest-to-Pete smoke ring I have seen on anything around here. Third, the fries were probably the best pre-cut crinkle type I have ever had. Asked if they had a spicy sauce. Told me no, but they would whip one up for me. Outstanding! Service was great too. Chaotic in the dining area, but damn did they have it under control. Nice folks. Made me feel like I was a guest in their home. Wished I gone here earlier, because would have revisited a few more times. read more
