My wife and I were looking for a great dinner in a relaxed atmosphere. We originally went to a nearby deli where the music was blasting, packed and some guy wanted $5.00 bucks to enter. So we began seeking something more for us. What we found was Moes. After looking over the menu we selected a pulled pork sandwich, French Fries, Green Beans, Banana Pudding and Moe'd up by adding a quarter chicken. I'll start by saying my wife and I have catered for years, I have multiple smokers and have cook countless meals from hamburgers, hotdogs, brisket, pulled pork, green beans is a specialty, chicken in all kinds of ways. I say all that to say these guys absolutely know how to cook. The chicken was perfect, green beans amazing! One area many mess up is trimming the pork butt so the product is not to "rich" their pulled pork was just right full of flavor but not to fatty. I wanted to pair the BBQ with something tasty and was surprised they had a Kentucky Bourbon Ale (WOW! NICE!) frankly everything was perfect and I plan too visit another time before continuing our vacation. The only thing that took an edge off our evening was during the guitarist performance, my wife and I were singing along and watching "banana baseball" on the monitor. A young woman turned off the center monitor leaving the others on, it killed the mood so I closed my tab when I had planned to have another drink or two. Instead we ended the night. Please, I suggest to turn off the monitors before the music starts so there are no misunderstandings. Side note, Watching the antics of "banana baseball" along with live music was a hoot. The food at Moes is always good. Not happy with the portions given the prices, but it's a better BBQ joint than most. Service was friendly and the place was well lit with a bar. Solid 4.1-4.5 Star This is one of those places where they care about their meat and sides. Well made, great cooks on the meat, perfect quarter piece cuts, and great sauces. I'm not sure why it's lower than a 4 in all of the reviews, but from the Alabama BBQ I've had thus far on my trip around the state, this is in the more elevated flavor realm. When you perfectly cook the chicken and skin, it's hard to say it needs more. The quality is definitely there. The only thing I'd say it's missing is a little more smoky flavor, but, whatever you do, DO NOT change how that chicken comes out. Skin was lightly crispy, and meat cook point was perfect. Cole slaw, baked beans, and corn bread accompaniments were excellent. I'd make this a safe bet through my North American travels. Popped in before the Steve Earle show at The Princess on Sunday before Memorial Day. Told us upfront that they were out of ribs, catfish, & salad. And chicken was going to be a wait. We ordered turkey with slaw & Mac 'n cheese and pork with slaw & beans. Moe's is the only place where smoked turkey is juicy & good, not dried out like shoe leather. We love the marinated slaw ( similar to Full Moon BBQ). Mac 'n cheese was extremely salty, only ate half. Nice to have Moe's for the first time in a while since the location in Chattanooga closed and we haven't hit the one in Orange Beach lately. read more

Excellent turkey bbq, white meat yet moist. Pulled pork was good but nothing special. The sides were had were very good, cole slaw was fresh and had a unique flavor. The Mac and cheese and green beans were fine and the banana pudding with the nilla wafers was surprisingly good. This is a restaurant that I frequent quite often. The food is always hot and fresh because they make it right in front of you. I have never experienced by customer service here. In town for a week on business. Just had lunch, the pulled pork sandwich (Alabama style) with beans and Mac n cheese. Really, really good. Good size portions and all homemade. It's rare for me to give five stars but I can't really think of a reason not to. Interior is clean and well decorated (except for the Roll Tide sign ). Stopped in for real food during 3d Friday. Food vendor choice was pizza......so thought I'd give Moe's a second chance since the band was setting up for live music. Opted not to try to get a drink at the bar because you couldn't get anywhere close to it. Decided on the child's chicken fingers with mac-n-cheese because I wasn't super hungry. A friend added to sides so the total of the bill was $11.oo and some change which is HIGH for a child's size portion. Food came quickly, the chicken fingers where mostly breading and the chicken that was there was ropey and tough. The mac-n-cheese was good and the sweet cornbread was good as well but the price, it was less than average. Two strikes. read more

Let me preface this listing by saying that I eat here a lot due the locations convince to my place of employment, and I genuinely enjoy the food. PRO: As I mentioned above, all food items are pretty good and some are great (the wings, for example). CON: Service generally is bad. Of the two ladies that typically work the front cash register, one is nice (sometimes) and the other is very rude all the time. CON: I feel like the food is a bit expensive for the portion size received, but this is mostly mitigated by the flavor. read more

Love this place! Very laid back and friendly. Wings are delicious as are the sides. I LOVE there collard greens. Creamed spinach was the only side I'd rate three stars on. I have been to a lot of Moe's stores by now and this is a good one. The location, near downtown, is more akin a sports bar with a patio; there were so many TVs and a big outdoor seating area, very pleasant to spend a nice spring evening drinking and eating. The food, as I have come to expect from this chain, is solid if not exceptional. This is not a critique. It is reliably good but the brisket is leaner than I prefer, but that is the southern style. Reliably good BBQ and great location. Love their white sauce, especially paired with their turkey and pork. Their wings are good to be be from a BBQ place. All of their daily sides are delicious. I haven't found one that I didn't enjoy. If you're lucky enough to be there on a day they are serving boudin balls, get them. You won't be disappointed. The best wings anywhere. They aren't too spicy, the seasonings accent the meat instead of covering up the meat. My usual is just a pound of wings, which translates into about 6-8 meaty wings. I'm a bit of a wing fanatic and these are my favorite. Only warning is that the interior of the restaurant seems to always be VERY cold. Because part of the front wall is Open Air, I guess it jeeps the ac pumping nonstop. But it's sometimes too chilly to even be comfortable. UPDATE: Im back to update after some additional time at Moes. Today I pulled up on a day when most everybody was off (day after New Years) and I had passed a half dozen places I couldn't get into, they were all packed. Curiously Moes was nearly empty? Hmmmm. They had a Rib Sandwich special so I ordered that. Sandwich was VERY small, the bun was so soaked in so much juice that the sandwich fell apart, and there were onions and peppers on the sandwich...who does that on a "rib sandwich" unless you're trying to hide that the sandwich is basically....pulled pork. I was expecting rib meat with some good smoky rib flavor, but it was nothing more than diced up pork smothered in bbq sauce and layered with onions and peppers to make it appear to be more. All in a frankly child sized sandwich. Really disappointing, especially considering it cost $10. Service was quick and that's about the only nice thing I could say, though it was no doubt quick because the place was so empty. I'm taking back one of the 5 stars I originally gave it. I still think Moes has the best wings available in Decatur, but I think I'll definitely have to stick to the wings if I return. read more

I have eaten here 5 times since they have been open. Food is excellent. The first time I ordered I thought the price was a little high for quantity of food. Then I tasted the food. This is high quality food. I have never left here and felt any hunger. There wings are maybe the best in Decatur. Their baked beans are the best I have had anywhere in Alabama.
