Decided at the last minute to give this place a try, glad we did. The restaurant is bigger than it looks from the street, but it's nice and cozy inside. There's about 8 or 9 tables and a few chairs along the bar to eat at. My wife ordered a glass of Chardonnay, which she said was very good. I ordered a Makers Mark Old Fashioned and it was spot on! My wife got the spaghetti and meatballs, she said the meatballs were terrific! I ordered the panko crusted pork cutlet sandwich with house made chips, everything was fantastic. I cannot say enough about this quaint cafe just off the main drag of UNA. We (four of us) went on a Sunday after shopping and seated ourselves. The server was prompt and polite. The menu had so many amazing options, and we tried many things, from the nachos (amazing!) to bacon waffles (light, delicious with large slices of bacon.) There's a whole wall of movie posters which was fun to review, although I couldn't determine how they were connected. There's an outside area that I can only imagine is amazing on a warm night or a nice day. They had a good list of alcoholic beverages, but we didn't try any...this time! read more

#fatjared say...I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. It was not enough to earn 5 stars, as I had a couple of small complaints, but I would definitely go back. One reason I would go back, is the service. We had a new waittress, literally first day, and she treated us so well and with such kindness it really set the tone for a great night. I will explain briefly my grading. I will never give 5 stars if I have any complaints. Period. 5 stars is perfect, and if I have a complaint it's not perfect! For my 2 small complaints, first comes the brussel sprouts. Just overall not good. Not cooked enough, no color on them, not good seasoning, just overall not a good side choice. Being in Alabama, getting veggies is usually not the best bet anyway! HAHA The burger I also think may have been frozen at some point. The edges were a little too perfect, and did not have a fresh taste to me. I may be wrong, but that is just my opinion. Other than those very small things, which let's be real frozen meat is not a big deal. I freeze all my meat when I buy in bulk! Everything else was stupendous. The cheesy wontons rocked, the mini meatballs were great, with not too big of a size, and good flavor on the meat, and MAN that salmon flatbread was UNREAL!!! So good! Well done there seriously!! Great flavor, cool presentation, and a perfect size. They also have great beer options, and cocktails. I had a free dessert when checking in to their place on yelp, and even though they weren't aware of that, they made us a Christmas tree cookie! So cute! Overall, I would go back. I say 4.5 out of 5 stars. Really good, great service, and a fun experience. Couple of misses for me, but nothing to complain too much about. I really enjoyed it! read more

This was a great hidden gem. We were in town to visit family and found this place online. Apparently the chef used to do food that was used in movies. The atmosphere was fun, and the food was very good. I ordered the cheesy won tons, which weren't bad, but I wasn't crazy about. But I ordered the fried pork tenderloin sandwich and my husband had the buffalo chicken flat bread, and both were excellent. They do not have a kids menu, but they were very accommodating with existing menu items - modifying them for our littles. Our server was very polite and attentive, which was no small feat, as we were with a group of 11. We called ahead to make sure they could accommodate us, and they had a large table ready for us when we arrived. I very much enjoyed, and highly recommend Jack's Place. read more

This is a hidden gem! Is the menu unusually diverse? Yes. But everything is delicious. I recommend the brisket for newcomers, followed by quinoa Masala for the more exquisite taste. Shanna and Bryan hold it down. The bar design is beautiful, and the art on the wall could (should) be in a museum. This place is great! I highly recommend starting your meal with the bread basket. It comes with 3 different kinds of bread and normal and cinnamon butter and they are all great! Food wise you can't go wrong here. The brisket sandwich is fantastic, they load you down with meat and the brisket is incredibly juicy and flavorful. The house chips are also great. It's a place I would go to several times a week instead of once a month or so if I could get a lunch under 10 dollars with a drink. If you are ever in Florence, do yourself a favor and eat at Jack's place. Jack is the owner and chef and he worked as a food stylist on several movies including Iron man and the hunger games. To say that the food was delicious is an understatement. We started with the cheese wontons. I had the Cuban panini with homemade chips with a delicious jalapeño ranch dip. My husband had the burger and chips. For dessert we had carrot cake and lavender tea cake with the most unusually delicious ice cream I have ever eaten. Jack's Place is always a winner for dinner or brunch. The menu has a large selection of entrees, salads, and sandwiches, and several daily specials. My favorites are the brisket, panko-encrusted pork sandwich, and the chicken parm. Their wine list is better than most in the Shoals. The star is always the dessert like the chocolate meringue pie. I'm not sure why this place hasn't blown up, but between the drink specials and amazing food it's a hidden gem. I like to sit at the bar because it's a beautiful piece of hard wood. The bartenders workstation is a granite slab that was displayed in the hunger games movie. The menu is approachable and comfortable, but still full of fun surprises. The biscuit nachos are a great place to start, especially while sipping a happy hour beer or mimosa. I just dropped in for a snack and a drink, otherwise I'd be able to tell you about dinner. I had the Brisket sandwich with the Mac n cheese... this is no ordinary Mac n cheese, this stuff has bow tie pasta with a mixture of cheese and just the right amount of other yummy goodies in it. As far as the Brisket sandwich, it was served on a toasted bun and had the right amount of juicy, tender beef and slaw mixture. Ate at Jack's Place for the first time tonight. My wife and I each got the boneless pork chop. She or the Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes as a side and I got the tomato bisque and mashed potatoes. The pork was perfectly cooked with a maple mustard sauce that was so good I could rink it out of a cup. It was so good. We finished with the homemade hazelnut vanilla ice cream over a chocolate brownie. It too easy great. Almost everything we got here was just average. The hamburger was nothing special. The pork sandwich had a soggy bun. The chicken Tikka masala was not very good. I should not have chosen to have it over quinoa. Perhaps the wild rice would have been a better choice. However I will say the chicken was tender and had a good flavor. On a more positive note my caprese salad was absolutely wonderful! Made with fresh tomatoes from their garden. I'd get that again. Plus the guy was really friendly and nice.
