We hired Great Lakes to fix our backyard. They were to.level the yard so it was easier to walk and cover tree roots. Their salesman assured us we would get a pretty yard. They also was to remove a fountain, level it and plant grass to blend in with the yard. It was not done. The yard is still uneven and the grass seed grew weedy grass. They did nothing over the pond they removed. All the calls we made was answered with promises that they would return and fix it. Still waiting! We were told by Chester the owner that someone would come in spring. Still waiting!! Now it's up to us to fix it. We paid $3700 for nothing. I would advise people to look around and obtain a better company that stands behind their work and keeps their promises. read more

We had used Big lakes lawn care back in 2019 and had bad service and cancelled. My husband decided to start cutting himself because they were so bad. Fast forward last year in 2022 our rider died and ironically Chester called to see if we'd try them again. My husband agreed to try them the remainder of last year and this year. Well they let us down again. They just can't cut lawns bottom line it's like they have inexperienced workers or they don't care. They edge every other week this should be done each cut, they half ass blow or blow it into the neighbors yard, they leave several high and low spots, they leave grass in the walkways, etc. I think they paid someone for their Google reviews because they cut like shit no way they have damn near 500 good reviews. Then we called nicely to discuss our concerns and the manager and owner never called back or answered the email. Chester you bet not ever call to beg us to remove a review again. read more

Chemical burns all over on our neighborhood common areas and our neighbor's lawn (hired for their own yard). They told them "it's due to a rough winter and aggressive weed treatment. It'll recover. It's due to incompetence. They either severely over applied or used the wrong product. It's burnt to a crisp. read more

Called for a tree and shrub trimming. Spoke to the owner and directly told him the google map pictures were not up to date and they would have to come by to access my current landscape. Quote stated trimming trees I no longer had as well as doing work in the back yard where I have zero landscaping. They literally looked on google maps to determine the quote. Morons. read more

The service is always erratic and each time they cut the grass it's done a different way because the teams are always switching up and they all aren't sure what to do because they obviously have mixed communication between the lawn teams. Only once was my lawn done amazing and it looked just like their advertisement every other time I my as well paid my nephew $20 to cut it because the Lawn was cut in all directions and I always have things that are broken and/or chopped down accidentally by the weed whacker kid so, I am currently in search of a new lawn company! read more

My advice is to RUN! I have never dealt with a company before who has such poor communication. Not with just the customers but with in the business. It took almost 2 weeks of messages left with office, voice mails and emails, I even left message with owner, to get someone out to look at and to repair my new sod which they had cut at 1 week ( they were aware new sod had been installed prior but no one got the "message or email"). The person who originally was suppose to get back to me the day my new sod was ruined came out 3 weeks later. This was after the repair which was then cut again 3 days later! I hired Big Lakes for snow removal service and instructed them not to use salt or damaging products because it causes cement pops. I told them I would take care of it with non-corrosive material. Yet they threw a pile of staining blue product in one spot on my porch. On two occasions they came to clear snow that was obviously two hours from complete melt and gouged my entire driveway with their plow. I had discontinued service by phone and email and they still came out two more times. Then a couple weeks later they came back and threw more stuff in my drive. The guy came to my door and I told him that I was no longer using their service. He acknowledged this but gave some lame explanation. Now I have cement pops over my entire driveway. We used Big Lakes Lawn care last summer and they did a great job. This summer we decided to use them again. This summer seems like they had different employees. They were coming out cutting our grass weekly. The problem came when they cut the grass and it was wet and the movers would leave mud tracks all in our yard. Also every place that their mover would turn in our grass it would leave skid marks. The grass would also be super low in those spots where the mover turned. My husband called and complained and was told they would ensure it didn't happen again. Yet the next coupe times they cut the grass whether it was wet or dry the mover still left skid marks. So my husband paid and fired the company. Lord behold Big Lakes still charged our credit card 2 more times after they were fired them. This is why they are getting a 1 star. read more

Called Big Lakes for a "spring cleanup quote". Quote was reasonable so I decided to go with them (even included a senior discount). They sent out two young men who did very little work, and no cleanup. The quote was to include all lawn and mulched areas cleaned of leaves and twigs and an initial spring mowing. None of that was done. Called to complain. They assured me that someone else would call and come out to do the cleanup. No one called or showed up. I called and CANCELLED. A lot of talk and emails from Big Lakes but not work. I had hoped to save myself some work but I guess I'll just do it myself. read more

My husband and I are retired but have tons of leaves called many companies the prices were ridiculous then got a hold of big lakes they were a god send reasonable priced came out right away our yard looks fantastic and the price was awesome we are very satisfied and happy with Big lakes service and prices if your retired call them you will be treated great and you will love the service and prices. Long story short...Big talk from Big Lakes, but poor execution. Took me 2 times/weeks before figured out they were not very good. And twice the price I was paying my last company. So...hired my old company back. I pre paid the next years (2022) 6 times fertilization program, so I guess I saved money. Cost $725 for 6 applications...missed the 4th application, but sent me an email saying it was done. (auto email). When I challenged this, Chester said it would get done. Well it didn't get done. Then they said the machine broke down, and the email that was sent is an auto one because I was scheduled that day...hmmmm. Then Paul (gm) emailed me and said they have had issues with the manager of that division, and they have made a change...would give me a credit for that one. Gave me a $67 credit...hmmmm. $725 divided by 6 is $121, Not sure how they got 67. Anyways. 5 th application was end of October...and the last application will be by Dec2nd....Dec 2nd?? Snow? Anyways, sloppy management, overpriced. I think they are growing too fast. My applications were April, July, Aug, Missed, Oct, and now Dec. wow....they missed the best growing months. If I could give zero stars I would. Our condo association hired Big Lakes for snow. Despite the multiple emails that Big Lakes sent to our management company which were forwarded to co-owners stating that they were prepared for the storm, they never showed!! The storm did not even turn out to be as bad as expected. If they can't handle it being less than expected I can only guess what would have happened if it was as bad as expected. Some of us cannot get in and out of driveways, get to mailboxes, and the sidewalks are not accessible for co-owners or delivery persons to utilize for deliveries. Since they have not shown up, everything is now coated with ice and extremely dangerous. The owner states they are the highest rated in Macomb County but I don't know where that rating appears. I have only seen a couple good ratings. Otherwise, they seem to have a pretty bad reputation based on the plethora of bad ratings I have read. I am definitely disappointed and would definitely not recommend Big Lakes. read more

I have never dealt with a company with such bad communication than this one. Lawn work is ok at best, but most definitely not worth $39 a week. They broke a garden light and after my complaint 3 weeks ago ive still heard nothing back. I tried contacting them last week to ask them to do a shorter cut on the lawn again no response. So as of today i left a message canceling my service. I do NOT recomend this company to anyone. Horrible smh read more

For the last couple of years, I had been using another lawn care service for spring cleanup, fall cleanup and regular mowing throughout the summer season. This year I decided to change and selected big lakes lawn care. Their spring cleanup service was excellent. The two-man crew who arrived, walked my property with me and paid attention as I pointed out the cleanup requirements. Throughout the next several hours, they worked hard and diligently, performing exactly as I requested, and as they promised. I would recommend them for spring cleaning, especially Ralph and Trey. They did a great job, and when they were through, my front and backyard looked immaculate, including shrub trimming, weed pulling, mulch raking and clean up. read more
