Passing thru Clinton on a Friday, buddies and I stopped for a first visit lunch. Big J's Side Porch is a food truck serving barbecue, burgers, catfish, Cajun/creole specialities, loaded nachos, etc. The service area is indeed a covered side porch with easy accessibility via ramp. Service is friendly and efficient. A stage area is available for bands and karaoke. I had a burger and fries and friends had the catfish speciality, or loaded nachos. All were reasonably good. Prices were competitive. Sweetened ice tea was available, but unsweetened was not. Bottled water was available, but served at room temp. If you're looking for fancy, Big J's might not be for you, but a good sampling of local cuisine is available. Barbecue might be the best choice. read more

This little place is a nice spot for a casual dinner. We went for steak night and they were good and tender. The waitress was also the bartender so she was stretched thin but managed it all pretty well. read more

The ribs were excellent. The sides were okay. The slaw was a little too vinegary and dry for my taste. The onion rings were top notch. The brisket was just a little dry I like it a little fatty and juicy. The service was friendly, courteous, and very attentive. I recommend Big J's. Just wish they were just a little closer to Livingston Parish. read more

Fun local hangout. There is a covered porch and in weekends there is usually a live band. Be patient on steak night; it's usually packed. Bingo is played on Thursday nights. Big J usually his a special. There's always something delicious one the smoker. read more

Drove quite a way to get here, as my sons band was playing live music there that night. I had really been missing good Barbecue in the area north of Baton Rouge, ever since Jim's Texas Smokehouse shutdown in Baker. But Big J's might save me. They were offering crawfish this night, which likely explains why the ribs were just a tad dry - crawfish was stealing the thunder. LOTS of folks eating crawfish. Though not in demand tonigt, the ribs still had meaty portions, a great 'bite' to them, and you could really taste the smoke in them! I think if crawfish were not drawing away the customers, they would have been a little more moist. Also had their chicken - a real winner! You could taste the smoke deep down in the meat! And I had thought that bit of goodness had died with Jim's. Meat was well cooked - still juicy and nicely seasoned on the outside. Big Js sauce was one of a kind. Most restaurants either point their sauces to sweet a la Memphis, or towards a chili taste from Texas. Big J hit it right in the middle. You get the best of both here. Baked beans were good - tasted like they came from a stovetop and not a can! Fries were fresh and hot! Did not try anything else, and will certainly be going back. Want to make a second pass on the ribs. I really think Js cooked them but then the boiled crawfish stole all the rib customers away. That said, what I had was truly wonderful. Outside seating is great under all the ceiling fans. Was a wonderful experience that night! read more

There were three of us on a Friday evening. My daughter had the burger and fries. My husband and I both had the catfish and shrimp combo. The food was excellent, and service too, in a clean, relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommend this family owned/operated restaurant. read more

This is my go-to lunch in Clinton, LA! Even when I'm not in town, I'll go out of my way to grab a meal at Big J's. They post menus and specials on social media so they are easy to find. The owners always greet you and take special care to prepare your order. The crawfish egg rolls are my favorite but the pulled pork nachos are a close second. The potatoes are a hit with my husband and kids. We look forward to the new, permanent location in addition to the food truck we can seek out at events. Not sure how the location pinned me, but I'm located in Liberty, MS just 15 mins from Clinton, LA. read more

Seafood egg rolls are a YAAAAAS! BBQ PLATE is delicious. Big J also makes his own BBQ SAUSE. I always have an extra bottle in my pantry. I highly recommend Big J. His service is fast. HE is just a GOOD OLE COUNTRY BOY doing what he LOVES! The atmosphere of the historical down town Clinton, La. is the perfect location. A lot of friendly small town love can be found on the main street. Perfect setup for his food truck. You can grab a meal and sit under the enormous oak trees. read more

Been working with, and eating Big J's good for a little over a year now. Ribs, burnt ends, chicken, jambalaya, burgers, salads, boudin, all phenomenal. Jason is personable, great guy to talk to and he knows his stuff. Looking forward to eating at his restaurant once he gets it opened.
