I was referred to this company by Grace moving. I've had lots of experience with Grace moving and I wish I would have been able to use them but because they weren't available they had introduced me to Big Island movers. They sounded professional it seemed like they had a good setup and I was quoted for a certain rate. I was quoted at $800 and then they told me if it went over the allotted time which was 3 hours and two drivers and also factored in mileage which we had preset they would just charge me the difference. The movers got there just after 8:00 a.m. everything went smoothly we did everything as we had planned. [[HIGHLIGHT]]During conversation the gentleman said cash tips would be appreciated which I had no problem with.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We got to our end destination which was a storage facility and the unloaded and then they use the iPad to stop the automatic timer So basically they start a timer in the beginning and then they hit the timer at the end. Everything is automated through an iPad I figured this was to keep people honest I thought that seemed to be a good system and I tip the gentleman $120 in cash The end total was $850 because we went just a little bit over the time I made my payment and went about my day this was on saturday. Today memorial Day Monday I get a call from the owner who tells me that the men calculated it wrong but how could that be when everything was automated they hit a timer in the beginning and a timer in the end They called it closing it out Now the owner calls me and says I owe more money. I am blown away and disgusted and have to question everything about this company because if it was automated using timers from beginning to end and everything was pre-planned we did nothing outside of what was agreed to and I gave a nice tip this is what I call bad business Sadly for them this could have been many referrals for the future as I work in an industry where I have to refer movers on a very regular basis. I even took a bunch of cards and told the guys I would put them on my office and refer. read more

We just used these movers. We were informed by Joe that it would be $195 per hour. When they finished at about 2 hours we were told it would be $760. We were informed that there was a 4 hour minimum. There was no mention of a 4 hour minimum when we first called and were informed quite briskly by Manuel that Joe should not have said that. Couldn't even get a quote. As I was talking to Joe (the owner) I was asked him what his earliest opening was, I never asked him for a specific date and he responded with "well your stupid for not getting movers sooner." I decided to look the other way and continue with the request for a quote. As the conversation continued he asked me to list all the items I needed help with moving. After I listed all of the items in my home he said I forgot the washer and dryer. I said oh, sorry, yes, I have a washer and dryer and then he responded with so you're not telling me the truth. If you don't want to read a novel: LACK OF COMMUNICATION and UNPROFESSIONAL I tried to do business with them due to their great ratings (and my friend had used them for her move). Despite all of the good ratings, we did not have a good experience with them. We called Joe and he initially answered. We knew he got booked up pretty quickly, so we confirmed his availability for a move that was a month away. He told me to text him the info, which I did. Days go by and I still had no response. We still didn't have an estimate (which over the phone he said he would be able to do, but never confirmed a day to come out). I called a few more times, my husband called, and we left voicemails. So it became apparent that he was avoiding us for some reason. It would have been a lot more professional of Joe or someone from his company to just be straight forward with us instead of leading us to think they would be able to come out and help us. With many moving companies being so busy, especially with the upcoming holidays, I was trying to get ahead and get them booked early (also was giving them plenty of time to respond). I can't say enough great things about Big Island Movers. I have used them twice, and both experiences couldn't have been better. Big Island Movers moved my family and I out to the Bay Area 4 years ago. The move went seamlessly, and it was everything that I could have hoped for. They were professional, on time and careful with all of our belongings. Recently, we decided to relocate back to the valley and Big Island Movers was my first phone call. I spoke with Joe on the phone and he went over my situation with me. He explained they're hourly rates, the time frame that he believed it would take them to complete the move, and we set up the date over the phone. On moving day, Big Island Movers were right on time and ready to work. The owner, Joe, arrived with two other employees and all three of them went right to work. They assessed the items inside of the house, and began loading the truck immediately. They worked nonstop and had the entire truck loaded in just under three hours. The truck was packed tight, from front to back, and from top to bottom. It was close, but they were able to pack my entire four bedroom house into one truckload. Joe's experience in this business was extremely valuable in getting everything in one trip. His ability to pack the truck wasn't lost on me. It was, most definitely, an art form. The fact that he was able to get all of my belongings in one trip saved me a lot of time and money. When Joe and his crew met me at our new house, once again, they were ready to go right to work. They began unloading the truck, and didn't stop until the job was done. I directed them as to where my items needed to be placed, and they did the rest. Best of all, they were able to move everything I own without so much as a scratch. Joe is a great guy. Professional and honest, and has over 30 years of experience in the moving business. His crew was extremely helpful, courteous, professional, and two of the hardest workers that I have ever seen. Personally, I hate moving. It's always stressful, and it's on the top of my short list of things that I hope to never have to do again. Big Island Movers not only made our move easy, but they were very inexpensive. I'm a little disappointed with this company. I reached out to Joe and Big Island Movers because of their amazing reviews on Yelp. I received a call back from Joe within the day, and he was nice and personable (which is the reason for the two stars). However, my reason for the two stars is because, I felt like for whatever reason, Joe was just really disinterested in assisting me. I thought they would be my 'go to' since Joe was from Hawaii himself, and would extend some of that kokua when I explained my situation to him. I currently live in Hawaii and have stuff in storage in Modesto. I needed help moving things from a 5x10, to a 10x10 within the same facility. I needed to hire movers because I had a very small window of opportunity to complete the move. I even called weeks in advance, far enough in advance that everywhere I called, had availability for the date I needed. Pretty simple, but.... NOPE! Instead, he gave me a quote that was two and half times the price of what I was being quoted everywhere else, and also said that it would probably be hot that day and that was another reason their prices were a little bit higher. When I explained that I thought the quote was a little high and I had received cheaper quotes, Joe tried to discourage me from booking with other companies because 'they probably weren't insured.' I left it at, 'I'll think about it,' and Joe said that "they would be there if I needed them." Needless to say, I went with someone else. read more

Best movers ever! They were recommended by our realtor, and after calling them, I knew they were the company to go with. On the day of the move, 3 guys arrived ready to work - they loaded everything in 2 hours and had it unloaded in another 2.5. When I had called to book them, they thought it would take 7-8 hours, so I was pleasantly surprised with how quick it went. These guys didn't stop for those 5 hours either - they were incredibly nice and pleasant to work with, moved anything we asked them to move to a different location, and made the entire moving experience (which is always stressful) painless. These guys did a great job moving my house. Our escrow for the place we purchased got extended and they put all of our belongings in our storage unit expertly and then removed them when we had our place. The only issue we came across was that a key broke off in my safe when they were moving it. The owner of the business called me personally and offered to pay for a locksmith to have the key removed and to have a new key made. These guys are top notch and you will not regret using them. read more
