Amazing experience in Southern Utah. We have been to Moab Utah many times and this is something we have never done. Highly recommend it. You get to see things tourists never get to see. The local owner has been exploring this area for over 30 years. He has great knowledge of local landmarks and hidden vantage points no one would dream of getting to see. If you want to get that photo that no one has and have an experience that, in my opinion, less than 1% of visitors will get, book this private tour. Another great thing is that they are by reservation only and your tour will not be burdened waiting for other tourists. Knowledgeable, experienced, safe, and a whole lot of fun! read more

We happened to see a Big Iron Tour's truck on the street in downtown Moab so we looked 'em and called. The owner Mike is a lifelong Moab resident. He knows and respects the off road trails. We made a stop where he pointed out fossilized dinosaur tracks. Cool! Mike mixes in his vast knowledge of the area with his off road expertise and humor. Riding along as a passenger allows you to take in all the scenery and get tons of information. An experience you won't get if you rent a vehicle to drive yourself. read more

Mike is honestly an incredible host and even though some of his material was dad jokes, he made those funny. The tour itself was brilliant and our whole group had an amazing time. Our group was a lot of former military and many of us are adrenaline junkies so when I first saw a tour truck I wasn't sure what to think. We took the 2-hour morning tour before it got too hot and were picked up at our hotel. in the military ATV which is definitely a different experience than your standard off-road vehicle! Our guide, Mike, was great - he had extensive knowledge of the area, made the tour feel more personalized, and answered all of our questions. Extremely funny guy, too! The actual off-road experience was amazing. We went up some serious inclines and narrow roads. The ATV is an open-air military vehicle, which made the experience very unique. I've done a number of off-road tours in different parks and in your run-of-the-mill ATVs, but this was definitely the best. We selected this tour above all and without hesitation because it's Veteran-Owned. I'm all about supporting our vets and small businesses. We really didn't know what to expect but this adventure was a blast! Mike picked us up right on time, he was friendly, safety focused, and did a great job keeping us entertained while we drove to the mountain. I chose Mike's company because we were newbies to the area and I wasn't interested in the horrendously described tours by some other companies. I had small kids in tow and wanted excitement, but not terror. I wasn't sure about Mike at first, because my kids are non-stop talkers and were pounding him with statements and questions. I worried they were annoying him. But after a short time he warmed up and he was hilarious! He has kids of his own so he was well equipped to hassle mine!! Mike took us to see dinosaur tracks, a cool tunnel, and then onto some red rock climbing in his awesome (and warm!) jeep. After researching, I found that there are lots of jeep tours and LOTS of Jeep Tour companies in Moab. I discovered 4 things: 1. Some tour companies have a 3-person minimum and will cancel if you aren't willing to purchase the third empty seat. 2. Several front desk people working for tour companies have no clue what the tours include or where the tours go. 3. The owner of a very popular and one of the oldest jeep tour companies in Moab clearly didn't want to answer any questions and basically made me feel like he didn't want our business. 4. Reviews can be misleading. Make sure to read all the reviews, even the ones with 5 stars. After looking at many reviews, I read about Big Iron Jeep Tours and gave Mike a call. He answered all of my questions, assured me that there wasn't a minimum number required, and was very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and helpful with all of my questions. I was sold! We booked the two hour Sunset Tour scaling Hell's Revenge. This tour is definitely not for the faint of heart, but we felt safe riding inside the Deuce and a Half with Mike as our more than capable driver. We rode up and down the red rocks and ended up seeing an awesome sunset. Two days later, we rode again with Mike on the 4 Hour Tour. We went off road into Mill Canyon where we saw dinosaur tracks and bones, Uranium Arch, walked through a cave and at the very end of the tour, saw spectacular views of Monitor & Merrimack along with Arches and Canyonlands NP. Mike has lived in Moab his entire life and has abundant knowledge and love of the area. I just can't say enough good things about Big Iron Tours. The vehicle we took (AKA, Pain Train) was amazing and Mike was made the adventure perfect. We had a party of 11 people. 8 adults, and 3 kids (6, 5, and 4 years old). We did a sunset tour of Fins and Things and Hells Revenge. I could not believe the obstacles that the Pain Train was able to overcome. I swear some of the inclines and declines were perfectly vertical! At one point we even went reverse on a vertical obstacle. It was nuts. The views that Mike took us to allowed us to take pictures that will be framed in our homes. He was hilarious throughout the ride and also gave us a greater level of respect for Moab with his informative tour of dinosaur tracks. If I ever make it to Moab again, I'm definitely going to get another ride with Mike. read more

We had a party of 9, 5 kids and 4 adults. Mike was awesome. He is from the area and gave us a tour of some of the not-so traveled areas. Super personable and overall great guy. I mean he is a marine so that really says it all. We were the first group on his new Big Iron beast and it was AMAZING! They do both Jeeps and Deuce-and-a-Halfs. We had already done a jeep rental, so we wanted a ride on an awesome military machine! Mike is a super cool guy, joking around the whole time and was really good with the kids in the group. We went on the sunset tour which was great! The trails themselves are the main attraction, but we also went to a couple overlooks and saw dinosaur tracks and he told us history etc. We did the trail Fins & Things and part of Hell's Revenge. They can pick you up wherever you are in town. Just keep in mind that it could be a little difficult to get up the ladder into the truck. read more

This is a long review because this tour is SO AMAZING! If you are on the fence about taking a Jeep tour in Moab, you MUST go out with Big Iron tours! I took a ride with Mike this afternoon, and it was absolutely amazing. It was so nice to be able to sit back and let someone else do the driving so I could look around and take all of the pictures and videos I wanted. Mike is a very skilled driver and I felt completely safe with him. Also- I did not know that Jeeps can climb walls but THEY CAN and it's really fun. Mike even does maneuvers that other jeep tours I saw weren't attempting (driving backwards up the steep grade, for example). We saw some dinosaur tracks and great mountain and canyon views. It was so nice to be in a closed-air vehicle- it was really windy and sand was blowing everywhere so I felt sorry for those people who didn't have protection from that. I am traveling solo, and I really appreciated Mike and his hospitality! Book. This. Trip!!! And make sure you book with Big Iron Tours :) read more
