If you want to be threatened this is the place to go. I was at a table with a friend when an older lady asked if she could sit with us. My friend went to grab her a chair, but she left and went to the bar. 15 minutes later she came back with another woman. The woman asked why I wouldn't let the lady sit with us and asked me to go outside so she could beat my a$$. We explained the situation and the lady apologized and said the woman is a regular there and a drunk so she's not surprised she lied. This lady continued to tell people in the bar the lie to the point where we feared for our safety. They promote karaoke every night, but the DJ will not play your song unless you tip him $20. Those were his exact words to me. For safety purposes, I don't recommend going here. read more

Love this place but have had both positive and not-so positive experiences here. Friendly staff if they know you, a bit stand-off'ish if they don't which may be a reflection of your the clientele. I've had a couple run ins with regulars at this place being mouthy aggressive or downright rude. Ladies don't go here without protection. I love this place! I had a rough few days and needed to unwind. I'm locked in this crazy custody battle and my kids are acting crazy. Their mom, my dumbass ex, is filling their heads with all kinds of lies! I went into the VFW across the parking lot to take the edge off. The VFW was totally awesome... to a point. Technically I am a veteran. I went through almost a month of bootcamp at Mayport in Jacksonville (hoorah!). My ankle was swelling up and I think I had like a sinus thing going on so I was honorably discharged and sent on my way. It was their loss. I told them as much and they agreed, but "at the end of the day Uncle Sam is also a b*tch to bureaucracy" as my grandpa used to say. So I was schmoozing it up, getting into my zone at the VFW. I was exchanging war stories with some fellow vets. I may have over embellished and took some liberties. Yeah, I may have plagiarized a tad, but most of that sh*t was pretty accurate. Apparently the guy I was talking to, Rodney, had seen Black Hawk Down and totally called me out. I was permanently banned from all VFWs, which is total bullsh*t. Fun fact: they actually don't communicate too well, so if you're banned from one location you can still go to another and they won't recognize you. The thing I like the most about the VFW is that you can smoke inside. My second wife, Margarie, hated when I'd come home from the VFW reeking of sweet, cool cigs. Ya'know what I'd tell her? "Semper fi!" She didn't get it. Once you've served, you get this look. We call it the "thousand yard stare". It's like when you're staring out into space and you can't even see what's in front of you. Like you can't see the trees because you're too busy looking at the forest. That's what listening to Margarie's nagging was like. After I was asked to leave the VFW I mozied across the parking lot and found Big Dog Saloon. It seemed appropriate because I am a Big Dog myself. Some of my friends even called me Big Dog. In boot camp that was my 'tag' as they say, on accounta my wardrobe pretty much consists of Big Dog apparel. The quality of Big Dog apparel is only out rivaled by the designs. Those guys are really on to something and they're totally speaking my language. Conveniently enough, I happened to go in to Bid Dog on a Wednesday, which is one of two of their BOGO specials. That stands for buy one get one. So what's half of twenty? You do the math! The signature cocktails are nothing to write home about, but it worked out well because I prefer the classics. I like my mixed drinks like I like my rock music-- classic. I like Led Zeppelin most of all. Some of their later stuff is way under appreciated. John Bonham's live drum solo in Moby Dick is unparalleled. They allow smoking on their patio, which is pretty badass. It turns out that they actually do karaoke... not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4, not 5, not 6, but 7 nights a week! Between that and the Big Dog thing it was like a sign from god that I had found my Mecca. My own private Idaho. In Florida. For Big Dogs. A place for Big Dogs to roam free, because we can't be tamed. That's what I used to tell my ex wife but she didn't understand. I was in the middle of singing Whole Lotta Love and this dude started puking everywhere. I'm not sure what he had eaten but it looked like he was puking straight blood. Speaking of food, this place could use... some of it. I mean, how many bags of chips can one person eat, right? It isn't substantial. I need a pb&j if I'm going to be slamming 20 Jack and cokes. Those two pair surprisingly well together. There was a cool dude who had just gotten off of work named Victor and we totally hit it off. We even sang a couple of duets. I wanted to sing Paradise By The Dashboard Lights but Vic insisted that we sang Summer Loving from Grease. He's seriously obsessed with Grease. If you ever meet Vic, ask him anything about John Travolta. Anything. Vic was a second generation Scientologist and made it to OT3 before he bounced. They still send him flyers in the mail, but they've toned down on the phone calls. Eventually I was asked to leave, but they specified that I was not banned forever. If I could leave this place 6 stars I would. If I could leave the VFW 0 stars I would. Ya'know, it's the thought that counts. I technically served my country. Looking forward to many more great times at my new favorite hang spot! read more

I just moved to Florida from Commiefornia and this is the first bar I went to when I got to Zellwood. I haven't had a better experience at a karaoke bar. There's nothing but love and fun in this place. I'll always come back to this place. I didn't even want to write this review in fear of letting more people know about it. It's such a cool place. A simple way to sum up Big Dog's is "it is what it is"! It's a great little locals only type bar. Prices are mad reasonable (3 beers and 2 whiskey neats for $15). The karaoke is hilarious to watch! They offer bar snacks, pizzas and there's a taco truck on property if you get there early enough. Don't go expecting high end or fancy but do expect a good time! read more

My husband and I hadnt even sat down before a bartender came running over to basically kick us out or have to buy one of their t shirts because my husband was wearing a tank top but we watched several females were wearing them inside and it was OK. The bartender said it's the owners rules. So okay definitely won't be bringing me and my 10 other friends to come drink at a nasty bar with a dress code. How sad. Update!!! We went again to give them a second chance welp every one was legit wearing tank tops asked the bartender what's up and she said "we have a rule no tank tops I'm like well then why is there like 10 people in here in them yet we got kicked out last week" she couldn't say shit then charged us crazy $$ for a shot forget that never going back to this stupid bar! read more

Great bar, nothing fancy. Cheap, laid back, with a great crowd. My fiance and I are frequent karaoke goers and we were staying with family in Clermont. We always have to find a karaoke bar while out of town, so google brought us here. Karaoke was fantastic. Very impressive sound system and the karaoke DJ did a fabulous job. We will definitely go back when we visit again. Only gave it 4 stars because one of the bar tenders was a bit rude, but the other one was nice. read more

This place was not so bad. It is definitely not a high class bar but it is a spot you can go in your kicks and have a good time while looking at folks just be free. I went on a Sunday night so there weren't too many folks there. The Karaoke DJ was awesome and I was pleased at how many people sang so good. I think it's a cute little place to just go and have a few drinks and they do have karaoke but its just not my type of place. its very small there's really no room for the karaoke and the people that do the karaoke I just drunk individuals trying to pass time it gets loud and rowdy in there sometimes not always... its just a place that you would have to see for yourself but its not my cup of tea. read more

The atmosphere is really fun! Karaoke, pool and drinks. However, there are a few down sides to this establishment. First off, I have been here twice, both on a Saturday night. The first time was really nice. Everything went smooth except someone got escorted out for something I missed (a little scuffle while my friend was singing karaoke). The second time I went was much worse than the first experience. Someone was once again escorted out. I also missed the activity that caused the expulsion due to playing pool, but in two outings two people were kicked out of this bar. I also was Mis-charged for my drinks. There were two bartenders taking care of me and my friend. According to them, we had 20 drinks between us. They said our first drink was at 9:40 PM and we didn't even arrive until after 10 PM. The manager was not interested in hearing anything we had to say, but instead was accusing us of falsifying information. I understand that you're running a business and you want to think your employees do things right. However, you should not disrespect a customer and say to their face "so we just overcharge customers". Look, this place is really fun. However, I highly recommend you bring a friend and you keep track of every single drink you have, because they are crooked behind the bar and are only interested in their profit. I would also like to add that this is the FIRST dispute I have ever had with an alcohol bill at ANY bar.... (I went with a service member who was here on leave from the Navy in Japan). read more

As you can see from the overall rating many people do not think highly of this establishment. Before ever becoming a patron of this bar I heard wild stories of bar fights, motorcycle gangs and drug deals going down in the bathroom stalls. I can assure you that bar fights take place and the occasional motorcycle club member comes in but I haven't really seen any drug deals. What drove me away was the cheap food selections, the bar service, the local crowd and of course the humongous clouds of smoke in the air. The crowd in there has a bunch of locals with a mix of the occasional first time patron. I have attended this bar on more than one occasion as a former friend of mine was a frequent patron and liked company. They bring in a great karaoke DJ twice a week and it makes for an exciting crowd. You get to enjoy the ambiance of locals getting drunk and slurring 80's tunes all night (I have been one of them). Plus the occasional Cha-Cha slide plus the "wobble-wobble" and you see the best of what this place has to offer. There was so much promise for this place. At one time it was a great dive bar for those looking to enjoy a cheap drink and the occasional smoke. I do not smoke and could no longer tolerate smoke eaters not working and microwaved pizza as the only appetizer. Plus the new bar staff was quite rude and the bartenders who many regulars held in high regard either quit or were let go. I have no allegiance to this place either way but it is sad to see an establishment become known for all the wrong things. read more

The Big Dog Saloon is one of my favorite places to be when I have free time. From the nice locals to the friendliest bartenders, and not to mention the great drink specials...what's not to like?! This is no dive bar and I would go solo and not be intimidated in the least bit. The entire place is kept clean - the cleanest bar in the area! The owners, Bill and Cindy, have worked hard to maintain the establishment and to keep the Saloon reputable. I have never had a bad experience and would recommend this great watering hole to anybody!
