For me, Creekers is the best barbecue I've had in this area bar none. There are other places close by that have had TV coverage and more attention, but to me they are all subpar to Creekers. The menu has more variety than any other BBQ restaurant around, and they do it all very well. The portions are very large, you will not leave hungry. This is the home of my favorite pulled pork anywhere, ever. I used to drive an hour to eat here about once a month but unfortunately I've moved too far away to make regular visits. The location is a little out of the way, but if you're in the Johnson City/Elizabethton area I highly recommend stopping by. It's a super casual establishment, the people are really helpful and nice. You order at the front counter and they bring the food to your table. After that someone usually comes by to check on you once or twice, or you can hop back over to the counter. Tips: - Call to confirm hours before making the trip, they close earlier than some places - Go on the days of their specials - last I checked it was kids eat free Tuesday and BOGO pulled pork sandwiches on Wednesday - They changed the name from Creekers BBQ to Big Dan's East TN BBQ Company. One of the worst barbecue places I have ever ate in my life. I have been here three times, Just to make sure that one time wasnt just a bad day. The pulled pork was so greasy I had to put it on a napkin and let it drain out the fries were the same way they were old, my kids had the macaroni and cheese and it tasted like it has been sitting in a pot all day long the noodles were so soft. Solid place for BBQ and sides. Tried the sample platter (5 meats and 3 sides). No shortage of food there. Definitely enough to share with 2-3 people. Pulled pork, chicken, burnt ends, brisket.. it was all very good. The meat was tender and tasty. I didn't think it had a true smoked. BBQ flavor, so I am not 100% convinced of the cooking process. But nevertheless it was tasty. They offer at least 4 sauces - mustard-based, vinegar, sweet and spicy. But the problem was - they put sauce on the meat before you get it!! That was a bummer. The meat should be served without sauce so you can pick. Sandwiches were piled HIGH. The collard greens were very good and beans were "the best I've had in a long time" - to quote Mr. Muscle. Mac n cheese got an 'its ok' vote from the table. The fries looked hand cut. Four people ate for $60 and given the amount of the food, it was a great deal. The menu includes all sorts of options for plates and sandwiches and the staff was super helpful. I am not the biggest bbq fan, but I would gran another bite here for sure. Very disappointed in my experience here. The food was good, but nothing special. Service is very poor. Had to wait 40 minutes, yes 40 minutes, for 2 pulled pork sandwiches with fries and beans on a Wednesday night. It wasn't even that busy. Once our food arrived, the "waitress" asked if she could get us anything else. Asked for BBQ sauce. She pointed to the front door and said you can get it yourself. There is a shelf where they keep their sauces by the entrance. Since we sat there for 40 minutes waiting on our food, I observed the server ask some tables if they needed anything and got other tables BBQ sauce. There was one bottle on the shelf at this time. So even though there is more than one type of sauce, don't expect to be able to try them all. Other diners had to go up to other tables to ask if they could use their sauce. Bad thing is is that you tip when you order your food. Totally over tipped this person. They ran out of straws. Not such a big deal, but adds to the bad experience. I've ordered takeout from this place before and ordered food for four people and had a poor experience as well. Asked for sauce then too and got two 2 oz. cups of sauce. Amazing BBQ in a place just begging you to stop in so they can feed you. BBQ pulled pork is chunky and meaty not like tuna consistency that most bbq places have. They will even give you some crispy slaw to go with it. Burnt ends that taste like they were slow cooked to perfection for hours. A tender brisket that is juicy and very enjoyable. Some really tasty massive burgers. Fries are homemade and cooked just right. Onion rings and fried mushrooms make great starters. They even have pies (i've never had enough space left after eating to have any though.) read more

Been there a few times. But thought it was time to write a review. Got brisket and ribs. They offer no combo, so it cost $27 to try both. The brisket was sliced thin, but it was tough and hard to pull apart. It was taken off the smoker too early. Some pieces were very har to pull apart. It was under done, by quite a bit. But the meat had a very good smoke flavor, and the sauce was sweet. The sauce had a good flavor onthe meat, but normally don't want so much sweet on the beef. The baby backs were very meaty,b ut they were under done also. the meat had alot of tug to them. they had a very smoky flavor, almost too much. And the sauce had been put on while reheating them. Not cooked in the meat while being prepeared. The under cooking of the meats was the bigest problem here, just not tender, and I'm not talking fall of the bone. That would be over done. Tried the burnt ends on an ealier trip. They were also under done. The fat was still in place and the meat very chewy. Burnt ends are taken off the brisket after the flat is done and then cooked further till the fat is rendered out. These hadn't been. Good flavor again, but very tough to chew. I am a local and have grown up eating the local BBQ. I eat here only bc wed you get bogo pulled pork sandwiches with one side each. The joke is if you want cole slaw you have to order it separately which is a first for me in any BBQ place I've been. They give you cole slaw with it but being as how I've worked restaurants before I recognize the size for what it is. It looks like a 2oz ramekin but they don't even give you a full 2 oz portion. It's half full at best every time. Where do I like to eat BBQ when I have my first pick? HANDS DOWN-Ridgewood BBQ!!!!!!! Look it up. Why do I come here then? Bogo and I'll explain it in a situational way. We like burgers but I can't always make it to the best burger spot so you take McDonald's bc it's there and fractionally what you want. Are you ever 100% happy? No. I think big dan gets customers bc the location is close to certain places where there's not much else to choose from. Big Dan is always off to side nicely chit chatting friends until he speaks to someone else and he becomes bland, monotone, and when they had messed up my order once he became confrontational when I expected what the worker over the phone had told me they would do as the solution. When he is the front desk cashier he's unfriendly and I always walk out talking to my family about why he seems to forget he's in the customer service industry. He doesn't thank you. Once he's taken your money-he's done and will walk off automatically. Also the portion sizes changes when hes helping. A few times the meat barely covered the bun and once we were given a smaller bun like we wouldn't notice. No business is guaranteed especially now since I've seen another local BBQ place competing with the same Wed Bogo deal. The meat has gotten better since I first went. First it tasted rubbery and bland. Now at least it has some burnt ends. The sauce is good- a B- maybe. It isn't thick but it's a little above runny just enough to cling to the meat. If it's not a choice by preference I would assume it's made runnier to save $ and cut corners. So if you want a lighter feel to the sand which you would prob like it. The beans are about a B, cole slaw is almost all cabbage which is cheap. It def needs purple cabbage and more carrots. I like the onion rings. About $3 for a bag with maybe 7 rings. A positive is the workers except for the occasional bad one, which every business has,are very friendly. Big Dan is better off just letting the his employees handle interactions. He's never came up and checked to see if we were doing okay or if the food was good. When they did mess up our order, he wasn't even apologetic even tho I had to drive all the way back down there. He even made a comment about how people try to get stuff for free and I informed him I'm just trying to get what I paid for. Other than the lunch rush and the wed crowd for the special I don't see the place full. But try it with an expectation of it being the fast food version of sit down restaurants meal. But if anyone says it's the best DO NOT Believe them. They just maybe haven't eaten the other places. Considering the main one has been listed in national magazines Big Dans would be receiving more recognition if they were putting them to shame. I took two of my bosses from out of town here during lunch the other day. They had never been. The three of us ordered 3 platter meals with 3 sides that equaled out to be around $50.00 with tip. We sat and sat waiting on our food. A couple of people came in that we knew from work and they sat down and mentioned to us that it was a buy one BBQ Sandwich, get one free day. Meanwhile, they got their food within 10 minutes, ate and left. People kept coming in, sitting down, ordering, getting their food (yes BBQ sandwiches and fries or chips), eating and leaving. We sat there 45 minutes till finally we said something to the waitress. She said, it's busy and there isn't anything that she could can do, I only serve the food, she said and have no control over it. She also said it takes time to fix the platters. I said 50 minutes? I told her she could relay the message to someone who could do something about it. I also told her I had brought people there and I was very embarrassed and would not be back. 10 minutes later, our food finally arrives by the girl who took our order (she never mentioned to us while ordering our platters that it may take a little time for the platters since it is a buy one get one free sandwich day). So, we got our food, one hour later after ordering. The owner or manager came out and we thought he would say, sorry about the wait guys. Nope, he goes into about they are doing the best they can and it being a very busy time (guess we should have not stopped in at lunch time to eat? Maybe stop in between lunch and dinner I guess). Also he was said, they fill the orders as they come in, (our order number was 13. They were currently on 32 when we finally got our food). How about stop serving up those sandwiches and get on our order. Never once did he say he was sorry that we had to wait an hour. Instead, we were made to feel like it was our fault for spending $50.00 on platters during lunchtime. We were suppose to order a buy one get one free sandwich and fries or chips I guess!
