If I could give zero stars I would, we came here to eat because our normal big boy in Tecumseh was packed for Mother's Day we even called ahead to see how busy they were in Brooklyn and they said they had steady business but plenty of open tables we got there stood around for 5+ minutes before someone in the kitchen yelled to seat ourselves then we waited 10 minutes before being brought menus and taking our drink order and then sat around for another 15-20 minutes without our drinks and nobody stopped to check on us we eventually walked to the front where we were ignored and just ended up leaving would not recommend this big boy at all worst service ever. read more

Evening dinner party of 10. Had prompt service and food was delivered at a good temp. Waitress was accommodating. I got the honey jot double decker chicken sandwich and wished i had gotten the regular chicken sandwich. Honeyhot wasnt too bad but just not to my liking. January 2025 a cod sandwich, 3 hours later I threw everything up. 15 May 2925 was breakfast followed by two days of nausea and diarrhea. Health department really needs to pay this place a visit. Humiliation! We've come here over 30 yrs. Today while we were eating breakfast our neighbors came in. They sent a couple milk shakes to our table. When I went to pay my bill they questioned me about my printed bill, while staring at my milk shake. I explained my neighbor bought it for me. She didn't believe me! She then went to a group of 4-5 wait staff and inquired, implying I was stealing! Stealing a milk shake! I am furious. Again, I told her to go check with our neighbors at that table Or our waitress. Went in the restaurant to get some breakfast before I had to have my chemotherapy, waited 20 minutes and a couple came in and sat if front of us and got served right away. We did not get waited on so we left. Always go there on Fridays and get my fish dinner, will NOT be going there for anything again. read more

I visited this location with my wife on 6/22/24 and waited about 5 minutes to be seated, the host stated go ahead and seat yourself I will be right behind you. We waited another couple minutes for him to show with our menus, none of this was a big deal we thought he got lost? Ordered are food from the server with an attitude Catlyn or Catlian do not remember the spelling of her name, I order a big boy with fries my wife order a slim jim with fries, we received the food. The fries were old and looked as though they had been double dipped in the fryer, the server sat the food down and left really did not say anything, there was about 4 tables of guest in the restaurant. it took her a good 10 minutes or more to come back and check on us, I asked her if we could get different fries, she took the fries away with an attitude. We received different fries a whole big plate full, it was ridiculous full of fries the server had no smile on her face and just sat them on the table, and these fries were just like the ones before double dipped in the fryer. I went up to pay the bill and the host or the guy that sat us, took the payment he asked how was everything, I stated not good he did not say anymore. so after I paid the bill I asked him why did you want to know how everything was, he stated because I care? I asked him if you care why did you not ask me what was wrong after I said it was bad, he looked dumbfounded. I then stated to him why did you even ask me how was everything was, if that just showed me you did not care once I stated it was bad. I then explained to him that the proper customer service would have been, a follow up question of what was wrong? He acted like he had no I idea and said have a good day and walked away, this place is nothing like it use to be and we will never return. It is really to bad because my wife and I really like big boy, and we drive form jackson to come here, well never again, I guess there was a reason they only had 4 tables of customers. If you would like to go to a decent place to eat, do not go here to big boy. read more

I don't have anything really negative to say regarding this establishment. Just that it's not a five star level restaurant but doesn't mean that you can't have a five star experience. Wong who runs the establishment is actually a pretty great guy and his family really strives to make sure everyone has a good experience. The food is nothing crazy but isn't bad either. read more

The Big Boy in Brooklyn is an institution. It shouldn't still be there but because of it's longevity and limited selection in Brooklyn it just won't disappear. This restaurant was the only real family style restaurant in Brooklyn for many years. I've been to this restaurant more times that I can count. The food here is generally of poor quality and not prepared well. If you ask for your food to be prepared a certain way, it's hit or miss whether it will be prepared that way or not. The service is generally fine, but varies depending on how badly they hate their jobs at the moment. I went here the other day again and the food was just ok. I had some new egg dish that was runny with undercooked vegetables and no flavor. It made me a little sick. The air conditioning was out and it was about 90 degrees. According to the server, the management from out-of-town didn't care. Don't go here expecting something spectacular. It's a Big Boy. read more

The Big Boy in Brooklyn, MI needs to remove the middle school level clique in service. Manager Kelly is terrible. He allows for, if not encourages, a toxic work environment between servers. The professional atmosphere is lost with servers yelling at each other with seemingly no care that the customers witness it. The servers even mistreat the other manager, David, who at least tries to do a good job. Clearly Kelly and some servers need some customer service, sensitivity and some interpersonal communication training if not just plain fired. The food here is good, but Kelly and a few afternoon/evening servers make the experience uncomfortable at best. read more

We eat here a couple of times a month. The food is maybe a little better than you would expect of Big Boy, but it really depends on what you order. I tend to order a waffle, a salad, or a patty melt. Hubby likes the Slim Jim best. French fries and onion rings are good. Their shakes and malts are great as are most of their desserts. We avoid sitting near the kitchen as it always has a weird greasy smell about it. When it's warm out, expect to see flies in the dining area, which is kind of gross. I am a little surprised by the star-rating of this Big Boy. Granted I have never been to a Big Boy before; however, I know great food and great service when I have it. Our friends and I decided to stop here for brunch before leaving town (we had just stayed at a cabin about five miles away). FYI - when we walked in, we saw a sign that said that masks were mandatory. Some of us had to head back to our cars to grabs our masks. When we came back, we advised the hostess that we had 12 in our party. She told us that our wait would be ten minutes. We were seated within ten minutes. Our party was split up a little bit as we were seated with two adjoining booths (which does not seat 12) so we had to ask for an extra booth next to us for the third family. Regardless, our waiter was great! He was quick and efficient when it came down to handling all 12 of us! The food was great too! I ordered the southern omelette with a side of hotcakes and it hit the spot! Everything tasted wonderful and was perfect regarding portion size. For a family of four, our bill was less than $30. What a steal right? I would definitely recommend this Big Boy for your next breakfast, brunch, dinner outing if you're in the area! read more

This is my favorite restaurant in Brooklyn! The service is great and the food is good. By no means is the food gourmet but it's good, affordable food. I eat here about once a week. read more

1hr from home, we should not have stopped. 6 kids 2 under 5 got free bar, & waitress made sure eveyone knew. Sold us, 2 adault/&10. & 2 free 2 ate $5. Kids Meal, 2 had $6. Which came with drink & desert! Now kids get food. Chick. fing. & fruit cup, no fry, drink, or dessert,, lol not to mention no salad! Food came & unhappy kiddos,! Lol jokes on us.. add bar to meals additional 6 dollers each. Not to mention 4 deserts. 5&6 $ meals became 11 &12 dollers. We've tried this location twice in the past 2 months and I don't think we will be back again. Both visits were on a Sunday and we ordered the breakfast buffet/ salad bar. The breakfast food isn't horrible. But the waffles and French Toast were both hard, like crunchy, and hard to cut through. Even when they brought out "fresh"... Still hard. But the real issue was the salad bar. The lettuce had obviously not been washed and was FULL of sand. You could easily SEE the sand on the lettuce. It was disgusting. We informed the staff but nothing was done, at least in the 10-15 minutes that we were still sitting there. read more

I used to love this Big Boy, but our last visit makes me never want to go back. My boyfriend got a burger which the bottom bun was soggy from sitting in the window so long, and my tuna melt was still cold in the middle and complete with a hair in it. When I complained, the waitress took it off the bill but otherwise didn't seem very concerned with my unhappiness with the order. We've eaten at the Brooklyn, Michigan, Big Boy many times, and our 3 kids love to get the chicken strip meal. This time they have changed from strips to chicken fingers, which are substantially smaller. They charge the same amount for the meal and you get the same number, but in chicken fingers instead of chicken strips. My child who got the chicken strip kid's meal (and normally takes some home) was still hungry when we left. We were asked about our experience at checkout and we told them. They didn't do anything to help us with our still hungry child. Needless to say, I'm not pleased with the change. If you want a chicken strip meal for your kids, try JR's instead. That is my plan next time we go out to eat in Brooklyn. read more

It's a big boy. You've ever been out here you know there isn't much to choose from. Big boy just happens to be the closest thing Brooklyn has to a fine dining establishment. Everything just seems to be way over priced . The servers and staff are always friendly but it's Big boy food. The original Bigboy is better then getting a Big Mac. The one thing that really stands out here is the weekend breakfast buffet. Other then that it's just run of the mill also girly above fast food. read more

I used to go here a lot when I was a little kid growing up in the area and I had not been here for many years after becoming an adult and moving away. However, I have returned to the Brooklyn area and had fond memories of this Big Boy and decided I had to bring my son here for dinner. Now we are almost regulars here! The food is always delicious and prepared lightning fast after ordering it! Drinks are delivered instantly upon seating and refilled without asking and within seconds! And they will give you a take out cup of your drink refill to go! My son loves this! Even when they are slammed, they have this phenomenal customer service and the place has a good mellow atmosphere even with many tables of young kids. They are the best restaurant in Jackson County hands down. I don't think that they deserve the low ratings they have on here from old reviews that are mostly from out of towners that came there once several years ago. I have never been to a big boy until I came up to MI - they simply do not have any in VA. I was quite excited to come in twice- one for breakfast and the other dinner. My breakfast experience was much better than my dinner- I got the bar both times and found the breakfast bar to be far more stellar with more selection than the dinner bar- which was basically only a small salad bar - no real meal- unless you want a small bowl of mediocre soup. The salad bar section did not have that much itself - I was hoping for more toppings for my salad and found only the basics. The potato salad was decent- however, it made me sick to my stomach shortly after eating it. My friends who were with me for dinner ended up getting a meal off the menu (fish and chips, burgers) and they were much more appetizing than the soup/salad bar. That particular night they did not have any main course - typically, they stated, it would have items like roast beef or meatloaf, but that night was lacking. The breakfast bar was by far the best meal here- and the best bang for your buck. I had a great breakfast- complete with bacon, french toast, sausage, mixed fruit and cereal - if I had the room to spare. Having that, with coffee, I only paid $6 plus tip, I was happy to get a filling meal. If we stop in here again, I will be sure to order something else for dinner - over the bar. read more

My husband and I had a late weekday lunch here while visiting family. We're from MI, and visit once or twice a year and always have to have our Big Boy fix. Normally I have to have a Slim Jim and a salad with blue cheese dressing (with seasoning salt at the table). This visit I went with the fish and chips instead. Another favorite from way back. And the side salad with blue cheese dressing. I was not at all disappointed. The fish was just the way I like it- half batter and half fish. The fries were just right too. Not crisp but not mushy, just right with the tartar sauce. The salad was a nice upgrade from the iceberg butts I'm used to getting. A better mix of lettuce types and chopped tomatoes and cukes. My husband got the steak. I don't know why. It came out shoe leather. The wait person recognized that it wasn't the medium he had ordered and had him try it. She quickly had a replacement for him when he said it wasn't what he wanted. The second steak was much better and he was happy with it. I can't seem to convince him that the Slim Jim is the way to go. The staff we were in contact with were very pleasant and consciencious. The restaurant looked clean and inviting. What more can you ask for? I'll be back. read more

The Big Boy in Brooklyn has been around forever, and a few years ago it was taken over by new management. I gave it a 5 star rating because of the people I have met that run the place and their great customer service and community support, in my opinion. The food is... well... it's big boy. Some things are great, some are just ok, but it will never compare to the home cooked meal. People go here for the atmosphere, the history, and in general, enjoy the classic Big Boy food! I take my students to Big Boy each year for breakfast, a tradition that has spanned many decades and was started before I was even a teacher. The management is always supportive and accommodates us, even making it possible for students who can't afford the meals to be able to partake. We have also reached out for various other events, and have been warmly welcomed. Some businesses specialize in fancy food, but Big Boy is more about family and the experience, and these are great people to support and interact with! Thanks! read more
