OK I will say coming from Hawaii that I have never eaten grits. My favorite movie is My Cousin Vinny and I was really excited to taste the "what is a grit" and check it out. This place came highly rated on Yelp so we were all excited! I went for it: chicken fried steak, pimento grits and coffee. The coffee was fine and when we started ordering, that's when the problems happened. For some reason due to the POS software, they were unable to add items to an order. At some point, it just became "ok leave it as-is, just go with it". The poor server was at the mercy of the software. There were a lot of people there and the food took longer than expected. When I got the breakfast, I have to admit, it did not meet my expectations. But you need to remember, I am from Hawaii and this probably was my first authentic chicken fried steak and grits. The grits were like mushy, overcooked oatmeal - like very mushy - one would say it's overcooked. But what do I know? I don't know. The chicken fried steak was ok. The gravy was kind of sweet and I don't know.... I guess I expected more. Again, this is coming from someone from Hawaii who has never eaten this food before. I will say the prices were AMAZING! No alcohol this week she said, I was really looking forward to an Irish coffee for my birthday breakfast , big disappointment!!! Only 1 waitress was working unfortunately the service lacked refills and it was super slow to get the food. The biscuits were dry either they were cooked yesterday or overcooked today not sure which. I've had a rocky relationship with Big Bear Biscuits. On one hand, their Cajun Skillet is amazing--anything Cajun/Creole is the way to my heart. On the other hand, my go-to location in Castleton shut down shortly after running a BOGO gift certificate special with Fox59. My friend and I each had $50 in gift certificates, so we made a special trip to Brownsburg (50 minutes from my house) just to use them. The server was nice, but the service was painfully slow--it took about an hour to get our food. The food was good, but the slow service and lackluster ambiance weren't worth the drive. If they reopen in Fishers, I'd consider going back. But running a BOGO certificate deal when you know you're struggling financially is bad business--you can't pass that burden onto your customers. Drove from the north side of Indy to Brownsburg just to try Big Bear Biscuit. Since the closed their location on 96th St, we tried to call this location on our way. We received no answer. When we arrived on 8/9/25, we found a note on the door that they were temporarily closed until further notice. See pictures. As a result, I cannot rate this establishment on the service or the food. I gave them a one rating because I wish they had an answering machine that told visitors that they were temporarily closed. If so, I would not have made the 30 minute drive. I've notified the yelp administrators of the note on the door. Recommend calling them before you visit the location. If there is no answer, they may be closed. read more

I came to Big Bear Biscuits for lunch and it was a pretty mediocre (albeit not bad) experience. I had the smash burger, fries, and a Diet Coke. The burger was good, albeit, a little rich with the generous portion of aioli. The fries were ok but fell within the not worth the calories range of fries for me. Others at my table said the biscuits and gravy were delicious but eggs were not enjoyable. The service was friendly but extremely slow where we need to waive for the waitress if needed something, had to fetch our own menus and silverware, and walk the check to the waitress to pay. While the restaurant was nearly empty. The ambiance was ok- the floors were extremely slippery and slick where I had trouble keeping my footing both walking and standing still. Personally, I wouldn't venture out of my way to eat here but if you're local it may be a good spot for a casual / easy meal with expectations in check. read more

We were looking for a great breakfast spot in Brownsburg and found big Bear biscuits. They were not particularly slammed on a Sunday morning, but continued to get busier as we dined. Very disappointed in Big Bear Biscuit. The biscuit was dry hard on top and bottom and not served with anything. No butter, honey, jelly nothing. My over Med eggs were over easy , not cooked to Med. Friend ordered scrambled eggs with cheese. They forgot cheese. Server took it back and and had cheese put on top but they didn't take the time to melt it. Other friends sandwich had a glob of aoli on it and her cheese never melted. The chocolate gravy was super disappointing. Very bitter. I grew up with scratch made chocolate gravy and mine is so much better. Our server... I hope she was new. She was slow and forgetful. Asked about nut allergies and the gravy. She forgot to ask. Had to ask her again. Asked for ice and butter. Brought the ice forgot the butter. Servers should know the basics of how items are made. I was excited to learn that Big Bear was opening in Brownsburg because I've heard great things about their other location. But reading the Yelp reviews for the Brownsburg location made me hesitant to visit. I finally tried it and I'm kicking myself for waiting so long. My husband and I had a great brunch. The staff was friendly and the food was delicious. I ordered the Petting Zoo and all of the flavors worked so well together. The portion was big enough that I took half home. And the pimento cheese grits were also very yummy. My husband ordered the biscuits and gravy and said it was very good. The coffee was fresh and brewed to perfection. My second time at Big Bear Biscuit today! My experience today was better than my first. I got a waffle today and it was really good. I got a biscuit as my side with jelly and saved it for later. The biscuits are just as good if you heat them up in the microwave a couple hours later. The biscuits are huge and really are extremely tasty. Today the service was pretty slow. We went around 9:00 am (Sunday) and it was pretty dead. It took about 45 minutes to get our food which isn't terrible but I'm used to breakfast places being a little faster. Ok I came back here for breakfast. I will say there was only 2 tables w 2people in each booth. One table had their food while the other was still waiting. The staff is nice but I was never offered a refill on my coffee and the food seemed to take forever to come out. Also a table came after us and they got their food first. The Biscuit Benedict is odd. It has a "bacon jam" but tasted and looked more like pulled pork. Also if you read my other reviews I am all about a poached egg. Sadly this egg was solid in the middle. The kids pancakes were cute. I tried big bear biscuits about a month ago and oh my gosh it was amazing. Actually I have already been back since my first time. Their biscuits are unique and VERY filling. One order of biscuits and gravy might look like a serving for one but it's truly two servings. I've also had their sandwich with the fried chicken, cheddar abs sawmill gravy - it was perfection. My grandson (3 years old) had their cub cakes and loved them so much he's been asking to go back. Oh one time I got the cheesy grits as a side and I was meh about those because they were pretty flavorless, but may just be me. The service has always been pleasant from hostess to waitstaff. Oooh one more thing - they also have lattes which my Mister says are AMAZING. He got one called honey bear or something and it was so good (I took a sip The atmosphere was casual and laid back. Went for late breakfast. Really wanted a great biscuit and heard a lot of good things about Big Bear. Restaurant was not too busy and things seemed a little off. Usually you can get a sense when a place has happy people and good food. This was not that place. Should have turned around and left, but I really wanted a good biscuit. Service was ok. Specialty coffee was not worth the cost. Just tasted of fake syrups. Biscuits were served burnt, hard as a rock, and covered in butter to help soften them up. No one eating was finishing anything they were served. Customers and employee's were all unhappy. A/C was running on high when it was in the 50's outside. Not comfortable at all. How do you go to a place known for biscuits and allow such a poor product to be served? It would have been better to close the doors than serve the food they did.
