This was the only bagel place near my hotel (the next closest one was farther than I wanted to travel) so in spite of the reviews, I was hungry so stopped by. Ot was clean, there were a lot of options, even though I came at 11 AM, the person who took my order was really nice, and I thought they were decent bagels. Are these as good as the best bagel place I've ever tried, no; but I think they're on par with other bagel places. And they had veggie cream cheese, which a lot of places don't have. I like that this place is open until 2pm most days so it's also good for a lunch spot. Prices are fair for a very well loaded bagel. They run out of a lot of the savory ones but still had plenty of the classics (everything, cheese, plain). They also have a good variety of cream cheeses, definitely more sweet ones than savoury. We got there 15min before closing. Love the vibe in there Beautiful coffee shop layout! They were out of muffins but we got our bfast sandwiches. We came to Big Apple Bagels on March 29th around 1pm, we never asked for the employees name but she was very knowledgeable and when we asked what she liked, she asked if we wanted sweet or savory and was able to narrow it down to something that could fit our preferences. They were out of the Lox Bagels unfortunately so I opted for the Mediterranean Veg-Out while my fiancée got the BLT lunch meal. We did not opt for the value meal option, but with the bagel you receive a complimentary dill pickle slice and a bag of what I have to assume is their old stale bagels as chips. The Mediterranean Veg-Out was wonderful and fresh, and all the veggies were prepared perfectly. The bagel itself was soft and savory. BLT bagel was satisfactory but the bacon itself had a really nice crunch to it and was seasoned well! Pretty average nothing spectacular about the bagels here, but they certainly filled us up. For the two bagels and a VOSS Artesian water bottle our total bill was around $18. It's not bad at all, and the food was great, but for the price we probably wouldn't come back unless we needed food and it was the nearest option. There was only one worker, we didn't have to wait long for our food at all but we did notice people coming in that had to wait for the worker to finish our food before they could take their order, so if you're in a rush I would probably opt for a different place to get your food, as you may need to wait 5-10 minutes to get your Togo food. Overall good service, good food, but nothing extraordinary that would lead us to come back here again. read more

The food is fine, but the place is the worst managed restaurant I have ever been to. 12:00pm on Saturday the tables are filthy, every table, the prices on the menu are simply covered with scraps of paper because of their rising costs... it's always a crap shoot if they will even have the bagel you desire. Will never return. Says it closes at 2 on weekends I went at 12:50 and the doors are locked. I've worked in customer service and this is unacceptable. I looked at the door to see if anything said they closed earlier and it said closes at 1 but still I was there 10 min prior to closing time. The worst part was I saw a worker staring at me through the window as I tried to open the door. I love this Big Apple Bagels - great, cozy place and I always have exceptional service. Over the past few months, they've made a few changes to save themselves money, without considering how these changes are negatively impacting their business - and subsequently their profits. First, they've started closing at 1:00 on Mondays! Their website will show them open until 4:00, which they used to be, but they decided they save money shutting down 3 hours early on Mondays. That's one of the days I'm most likely to go there, so now instead of spending my money at their restaurant, I'm spending it elsewhere. I'm not the only person who would stop there on a Monday afternoon, either, and it's annoying to the customers to have erratic hours and to close at the ridiculous hour of 1:00 in the afternoon. Even restaurants open just for breakfast and lunch business are open until 2:00, and since Big Apple Bagels is only open until 4:00 daily during the week (except Mondays now), it seems like they could find enough moxie to swing the other 3 hours like they always have before. Another change over the past several months: the muffins case is almost always near empty. They are carrying fewer muffins. Is this just to sell out each day? Customers who come in after they're out of muffins are just out of luck - because the restaurant didn't have any leftover to take a loss on. The other thing is, if there are any muffins past say, 10:00 a.m., they're always the same unpopular flavors. The popular flavors are gone early in the morning. Why not make more profits by carrying what the customers want instead of screwing up the hours of operation and not having any muffins by mid-morning? The third penny-pincher change... they stopped making iced tea a few months ago, didn't carry it for a while, then finally brought it back. When I asked an employee why they didn't have their iced tea anymore, I was told it was because they threw away a lot of it that was leftover. Okay, what does it cost to make iced tea? A couple of tea bags and water? Even if they throw it out, they probably make enough profit on one glass they sell to compensate for anything the have to throw out eventually. Things that appear to look good on paper should be considered from the standpoint of the intangibles - how many customers are showing up at the doors after 1:00 on Mondays only to find the doors locked - and being frustrated about it? How many people go to meet for breakfast, looking forward to a muffin - only to find the muffin case empty (or empty except for the one or two flavors of muffin no one wants?) read more

I absolutely adore this place. The fact that it's nestled into a little corner of a strip mall, across and next to a few oil change places, and right on my way to school. Bagels, sandwiches, donuts, and coffee galore. It's a great way to start the day, or keep one going around lunch. You can be as healthy or gluttonous as you choose, and your wallet is in for a break too. It didn't take me long to recognize most of the faces that were both behind the register and shoveling their faces full of warm, delicious bagels. This is an average place to go to for coffee and bagels but it is convenient. The poor rating is for their customer service and downright awful WiFi connection. I often work remotely from various coffee shops & NEVER have this problem with other businesses. This is the 3rd time I've had a poor experience after I stopped in to grab coffee and work for an hour or two. They have two internet options, neither of which work. All 3 times I've experienced this, I speak to an employee and their response is "Yeah, it's been doing that lately." To which I respond, "Can you try restarting the router thingy?" And they said "Sure!" When I try again, it still fails to connect. When I return to the employer, they said there is nothing they can do. I've tried connecting both of my laptops and my cell but was still unsuccessful. I spoke with nearby customers and they experience the same thing in their devices. I understand not everyone comes here expecting to connect to WiFi, but when it is one of the only cafe-like options in the area, I find it incredibly disappointing. read more

I love this place! I've been going here every sunday after church for as long as i can remember. Although I really don't like the new owners. They don't honor groupon offer that the previous owners bought and I preferred it before they re-did the inside when it was a cozy little shop. I will start of by saying the bagels here are awesome. However, the service there is SLOW. I stopped in to grab bagels for my coworkers on a Friday morning. There were three people in line in front of me. After 10 minutes I left empty handed. Only one person had been checked out in that time. There were two gals working the registers and filling orders. There were two more gals just standing there. Really disappointed in the service. I would suggest an express line for people who know what they want. HORRIBLE SERVICE. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY HERE. We waited a half an hour for a cold bagel when we'd asked for it toasted but the let it sit so long it was cold. Several people after us were served before us. When I politely mentioned this the employee a girl with dark hair in a pony tail ARGUED with me about how long we'd truly been there when she failed to consider the time WAITING IN LINE as the line was about a half an hour when there was literally 2 people before us. Also on another occasion the same girl decided to close the shop early and locked the doors in customers faces "were closed now it close to closing (20 minutes from closing) and were not going to make any more" WHEN I COULD SEE baked goods in the shelves still there! HORRIBLE, RUDE, SLOW. Do not waste your money. Drive to rivertown, allendale or standale. Your money is better spent elsewhere until the employees understand CUSTOMER SERVICE. read more
