Ordered 10 bagels with cream cheese, drove back to realize they only put cream cheese on 3 of them (even though the receipt says cream cheese on all. So went back to get more cream cheese and asked for 2 tubs of cream cheese, since they couldn't touch the bagels again to put cream cheese on them, the lady at the front wouldn't give us 2 and only 1. We asked multiple times if we could please have another tub since we needed to put cream cheese on multiple bagels AND we just drove 30 minutes back and forth 2 separate times. We argued for quite awhile and we needed to get back so we just took the 1. The lady at the register was very rude and told us she doesn't have time for this. I'm very mixed about this place. The food is fantastic. I've never been disappointed by a bagel or sandwich. I even like all the options they have for cream cheese. My issue is the employees. Don't take this the wrong way, they are always very courteous and helpful. This issue is the way they are trained. I'll use one anecdote that is similar to an experience that I've had multiple times here: It was early in the morning (7am) and I walked in and ordered a dozen bagels. There were 2 employees working up front and I was the only one there when I arrived. I ordered, and before I was done ordering 3 people come in right behind me. I figured that 1 employee would start my order while the other would help the next guest....nope. They both continued to help me. And this lasted for several minutes. It was another 5 minutes before my order was fulfilled and they BOTH began helping the next person. Now you may say that one was training the other. But I don't think that was the case because they were both working independently. This has happened to me, or I've witnessed it here 3 times. read more

Went for lunch today. Waited FOREVER for my lunch. Mellissa was exceptionally grumpy and impersonal; not to mention slow. She couldn't find the button for "add onion" so I didn't get the onion I asked for. She didn't ask for help, nor did she tell me she couldn't give me what I wanted. Also, Seems this site is not laid out for efficiency. Toasting of bagels takes place in the front and then curried to the kitchen...? Really? Why not have two toasters. Also, bagels are sliced by hand. Really? Why not have an auto sliver. I still haven't gotten my order and am afraid I got a garlic bagel instead of the onion I ordered due to it getting stuck/burnt in the toaster (because other bagels were being carried to the kitchen and person wasn't able to address it quickly) So there were no more onion bagels and the girl just grabbed a garlic bagel and didn't address it with me...?? Really? This is how you do business? Omg...so I just got my sandwich and it has TWO BOTTOMS not onion, not garlic...plain a@@ bagel...or are they? Mystery bagel bottoms!!! Awesome....smh! I stopped in to get a bagel to go on my way home. Second in line. I bet it was at least 10 minutes or more to get my bagel. Took it home and opened bag and it was burnt. No one even asked me if I wanted it toasted. I had to cut off the burnt part. It still didn't taste very good. Hard. Both halves were burnt. Very disappointed. read more

Normally, I love Big Apple Bagels. But, today, I received the terrible service! The person running the register was just plain nasty to us. She was all over the place and it wasn't even that busy. She didn't smile, and she sounded angry, but only to us. We waited a while for our food, but not a ridiculous amount of time. Then we get our food. My fiancé got a tomato basil bagel and I got plain. As seen in the picture, I had his top, and he had my top. I also ordered cheese on it and there wasn't any. We brought it back up to the counter and the same lady that we ordered with and we explained our situation. She just sighed, said okay in a sour tone and walked away rolling her eyes. She brought it to our table, we said thank you, and she just went, "yeah..." terrible service. Terrible attitude. Terrible experience. Do better. read more

i love their jalapeños bagels I go there basically everyday and they're always nice to me

The young lady at the register was new. She needed assistance loading a new roll of receipt tape. Sue was not very kind, just snippy and not friendly with her while showing her she had the wrong tape in the wrong way. I imagine it must be hard to learn a new job with someone who isn't kind and calm while training. I ordered a bagel toasted with butter. Sue cut and toasted the bagel then proceeded to chat with another customer for 2 minutes while I waited for her to butter and bag my bagel. The new gal finally finished it for me. I was in the middle of some deliveries, as I drove away and pulled out my bagel, I found the edges to be very burnt. And to boot, there was a hole in my straw and it was hard to drink. Because I was in the middle of working, I couldn't return to get a new one. Disappointed and hoping a little more kindness will help them get it together. read more

TIP: If you are a frugal shopper and you don't mind the selection sometimes being a little picked over if you buy your bagels in the last hour they are open they are half price. I do not think the half price discount applies to the cream cheese, but you can ask to verify if it applies to cream cheese and other items they sell like muffins. I'm still a fan of this place, but unfortunately I'm having to knock off a star from my previous review. This is for 2 reasons. First is that here on Yelp the business closing hours are way off. I'll give what I remember the closing times as being, but if you're going close to closing time call them first to make sure I'm remembering the times correctly. Monday thru Friday they close at 4 pm, on Saturday they close at 3 pm and on Sunday they close at 2 pm. So Big Apple if you read this I sent you an email requesting you update your hours here on Yelp and it's been months and that has not been taken care of yet. If you want your 5th star back please update your business hours here on Yelp. It's a simple thing you can do to help avoid frustrating your customers since nobody likes to show up at a business only to find they closed hours before the hours that are posted here on Yelp. The 2nd reason I'm knocking off a star is because 2 out of the last 3 times I've bought jalapeno bagels here there was absolutely no jalapeno flavor in them. Now I'm an old white man that can not handle eating any spicy food so if I'm saying there is no jalapeno flavor in your jalapeno bagels then there's a serious problem here. In a month or so I'll try them one final time to see if you've corrected this problem, but if it's still a problem then I'll stop buying them and since they are the main reason I stop in here it will cost you some business. I'll still stop in sometimes for other flavors, but I'm guessing you'll lose 2/3 of my business if you don't start putting jalapeno back in your jalapeno bagels. Please fix this problem!!!! The good news is their other flavors are good and they have a nice selection of flavors so everybody can find something to enjoy. Also, the employees here are always friendly and the store always clean so there is plenty to like about this place. With a couple of minor tweaks they will get their 5th star back from me. read more

We had breakfast/lunch here yesterday. Pretty good. My mother had an egg sandwich on a jalapeño bagel. She enjoyed it. My dad had some kinda beef s'witch on a bagel. I had a california club, so a turkey s'witch w/ avocado on rye toast Madre and I shared a chai latte, yum. It was a good meal. I am a bagel snob, so my review is based on that. The bagels here are not good. They are ALWAYS over-risen and full of air pockets. A bagel should be dense and chewy. My cynical side says that they do it to give the consumer he's getting more for his money. If you like AIR, this is your bagel place. We stopped here for a quick breakfast on our way through town. The bagels were delicious! I had a BLT sandwich on Asiago. The bagels were had just the right "bite" and "chew". We waited about 5-10 minutes for our sandwiches. I wasn't crazy about the iced coffee although my friend liked the regular hot coffee. I would definitely go back when I'm in the area. read more

I moved here from 2 miles outside of Manhattan in November 2014. I say this to say that I have a pretty good working knowledge of what a good quality "Big Apple" (New York City) bagel tastes like. I came here at approximately 8:40 am on a Wednesday to have a bagel with cream cheese. I ordered a toasted onion bagel with vegetable cream. My compadre ordered a bagel sandwich with lox and cream cheese. My experience here was mediocre at best. For some reason it took them literally over 10 minutes to fulfill our measly two person uncooked order . I don't think the deli person in back had much experience with the lox sandwich menu item. As we were waiting I perused the cream cheese display beneath the counter. There apparently is some bizaare fetish sweeping Big Apple's clientele with sweet cream cheeses. I kid you not, literally a third of the cream cheeses offered were sweet. To name a few: chocolate chip, maple syrup, blueberry, two types of strawberry, and apple. I find this odd and not very appetizing. Then I noticed the oxymoron the "light cream cheeses". Just for the record, if your trying to lose weight or eat healthy you really shouldn't be eating bagels and cream cheese for breakfast, period. Noticeably absent from the cream cheeses were regular vegetable cream cheese (they only had light which I didn't realize when I ordered) and olive cream cheese. Coming from New York, the bagels were unusual. They were shorter and thicker than your classic bagel back east. They were too fluffy. Personally, not my cup of tea. Big Apple Bagel could benefit from a lesson or two from a good jewish bagel maker in New York or New Jersey.
