Bagels are not big and chewy. They taste more like a roll. They are WAY smaller than they used to be and the hole in the center is so large you couldn't possibly make a sandwich with one. Prices are high, and they don't offer a bonus bagel with a baker's dozen. read more

This place was always a family favorite and part of our weekend breakfast plans. Not so much anymore. The quality of several things has gone down hill. The service is painfully slow and disappointing. It seems like day old bagels get mixed into the fresh and ones and sold. The store itself is often cluttered and shabby looking. I received quick service. The sandwich and coffee were not so great. I ordered a turkey & harvati sandwich on a sesame bagel, and a coffee. The bagel was not as good as I expected. The bagel was not toasted or warm. It's basically a cold sandwich. There was too much cream cheese and the herbal taste of it wasn't good. I took off the tomato slices and lettuce, and shaved off some of the cream cheese, but still wasn't as good and the bagel wasn't soft. Possibly starting to get stale. I tossed the sandwich and just went somewhere else. The coffee wasn't fresh. It was 11am when I got there and the coffee was self serve. All the coffee in the different containers were at room temperature. Don't get the blueberry flavored coffee. Taste gross. I won't come here again. read more

Had a very ¿acute? experience here recently. I went in and was helped by the couple/family that I've often seen working there. I ordered whole bagels to go. They placed the items in a bag, in a transaction that took maybe 1-2 minutes (to be clear none of my order required anything to be prepared) and as I was checking out, the woman essentially demanded a cash tip before she would proceed with letting me pay (via card). I was initially confused (English isn't her first language so I wanted to initially believe I was not understanding what her ask was--and I by no means hold that against her-I speak another language and get how difficult a task it is). But eventually I told her I didn't have any cash, and she !admonished! me and told me to bring some for next time. What?! Aside from that the bagels here are pretty good, but I will absolutely think twice about stopping here in the future, bc the experience left me feeling saltier than the salted bagel I had gotten. Notably I ALWAYS tip min 20+% for restaurant and cafe service and even sometimes I tip for carry out...but feeling like it's a demand for something that is essentially finished goods makes me never want to return. read more

Big Apple Bagels has been at this location for longer than I can remember which is a testament to how good their bagels are. A lot of businesses in this strip mall don't last a terribly long time, but BABs has been there forever. They have at least 20 different types of bagels every day and at least 10 different spreads to go on them. The combinations are endless. They also have a variety of fresh muffins, and they can make breakfast sandwiches as well. The amount of cream cheese they put on your bagel is EXTREMELY generous, and I've never found myself wishing I had more. The prices are cheaper than most other bagel places in town and their bagels are bigger and softer as well. Big Apple Bagels is a local business that I'm MORE than happy to patronize on a regular basis, and you should too! read more

I'm not a bagel guy but every once in a while I want a Lox and cream cheese bagel because as young man hanging around Jewish people I got the taste for it. I have driven past this place countless times but I never stopped because I'm not a bagel guy until today when Lox on a bagel was tickling my brain. WOW this place is more than bagels with smoothies, deli sandwiches, breakfast sandwiches, muffins, ice cream cakes etc. I ordered the Lox and cream cheese and I was asked which bagel so I said an Oreo bagel and the woman looked at me with shock on her face, just kidding I said and the everything bagel. You also choose your cream cheese flavor and I got the onion chive along with tomatoes and raw onions to complete my bagel. For some reason the bagel seemed bigger than the average bagel from other places and looked amazing, see my pictures. WOW the bagel was very tasty with that nice chewy skin and soft dense inside. The onion chive creme cheese was plentiful which just added to the layers of flavors. As a added bonus a cold pickle spear came with the bagel, I love cold pickle spears. I think that this was the best Lox on a bagel I have had in the Milwaukee area so far and it's going the be the bagel store I go to for one when the itch happens. read more

Called to find out if they have WiFi as I needed a spot to work remotely for a couple hours. Someone answers the phone, "Hello." "Uh - is this Big Apple Bagels?" "Yes." Not off to a great start. Next, he was completely unable to understand my simple question, "Do you have WiFi Internet in the shop?" He turns the phone over to someone else with an accent just as thick. This woman eventually said "yeah we do," but it sounded like she was guessing. I won't be trying them for lunch. read more

I've been a customer for over twenty years and always loved the bagels and sandwiches but ever since the new owners took over it's been terrible. The first time I went in the sandwich was poorly assembled and barely had any Turkey on it the cheese was half way off the bagel. Today I came in hoping they turned things around and it was better but the bagel was stale like come on?? Soda machine was broken and half the stuff on the menu they ran out of. Had wanted to try this place for some time and when I found a coupon that offered six free bagels with purchase of six the temptation got the better of me and off we went. At the little strip mall location, the interior was a dull and dreary as the service. There were about eight to ten flavors to choose from. Granted we showed up i the early afternoon so, I believe, the selection was greatly diminished. Based on that experience I suggest that if you do go here, that going earlier, rather than later, would be advisable. Selected the dozen and the bill was just shy of $13. I don't know how much bagels typically cost, but a buck each seemed right until I realized that was with the half-price coupon. Yikes! The bagels themselves were larger in diameter than I expected, but also thinner - as if they had spread out during cooking. They had and okay crust with some moderate chew and a soft interior. I prefer savory to sweet, so to me those flavors (Cheese, Egg, Herb Cheese) were better than the fruit flavored ones. Bottom line, I wouldn't go out of my way to go here again just for an average bagel, with the edgy service and each one a couple bills a pop. Try it, you might like it. read more

Delicious bagel sammie -- their cheddar herb bagel was unparalleled. I did a basic cream cheese schmear and some warmed ham slices. My go to, and it didnt disappoint. My other half had their lox on a swiss melt bagel, also with high marks. Grabbed a few to go (strawberry and candied pumpkin and another cheddar herb) - we freeze and toast through out the week and these stayed perfectly bagel-y. Next time were in Hales Corners, I bet we will get a dozen for home. read more

I'm visiting from out-of-state and wanted a nice, toasted, sesame bagel with butter. The employees were borderline surly. Not a single smile between the two of them. Ordering was like talking to a cardboard cutout. I asked for my bagel to be extra toasted, I specified "dark". The bagel I got was very lightly toasted. See the photo. The bagels themselves were just disappointing. Dry and breast, bone of the chewiness you expect from a bagel. They did use a decent amount of cream cheese (thus 2 Stars) but it wasn't enough to redeem the crumbly, Death Valley dryness of their bagel. I do not recommend and I will not be back. read more

Not a pleasant welcome, not a welcome at all actually, when we stopped in to buy a dozen bagels for my bagel loving family. Ordered 2 each of six varieties, which barely fit in the bag (coulda spared an extra bag?). Before the pandemic, I would come here every other week to pick up some weekend bagels. My wife is pregnant, so she had a craving today for bagels. I went into the store and realized that not only we're the 4-5 customers not wearing masks, all the employees preparing food were also not wearing masks. And they looked at me like I was some sort of alien because I was wearing a mask and being respectful of people around me. I canceled my order and left. Service was fast and friendly, but the bagel left much to be desired. It's a regular bagel with not all that much flavor. It basically served as a device for which to sandwich the cream cheese. I went with the Cheddar Bagel and Cheddar Bacon Cream Cheese. I was kind of excited to find the Cheddar Bagel had bacon on it, too. Then, I realized it appeared to be artificial bacon, something along the lines of Bacos. The bacon sprinkles were on top the bagel and in the cream cheese. Such a bummer. The positive part is that the food is relatively cheap. It was a little over $6 for the bagel and cream cheese with a giant fancy pants Brewster's Coffee Caramel Decadence frappé drink that was surprisingly good. We split both and it kept us somewhat satisfied until dinner time. However, I don't think I would return because I much, much, much prefer Bruegger's Bagels. read more

Huge selection of bagels - probably 30+ different kinds of bagels with about 10+ different flavors of spread. Also, this place cheaper than Panera, especially if you want to order a dozen bagels.... and it certainly is far less busy than Panera. Love their breakfast sandwiches - my favorite is an Egg bagel, toasted with scrambled eggs and cheese on the bagel. They also have fantastic, huge muffins and a decent selection of coffee. If you're looking for a quick breakfast or to order a selection of bagels for the office, I'd highly recommend stopping at Big Apple Bagels. read more

I wish there were more Big Apple Bagels left in Milwaukee - yum! I stop in at this BAB when I am in need of comfort food at its best. The bagels are giant (Swiss Melt is my favorite!) and the abundance of cream cheese (salsa flavor rocks!) always hits the spot. It's certainly not healthy, but damn it's good! The owner of this location is friendly and always ready with a smile. The bagels and coffee are always hot and ready. Way better than you average store bought bagels. Much fluffier and bigger. It is on the pricier side though. It cost $18 dollars for 12 bagels, a large tub and 2 smaller containers of cream cheese with a "buy 6 bagels, get 6 free" coupon. Only giving it 5 stars because it doesn't matter what service is like or what the price is when their bagel sandwiches are that good. CONS: There is a grumpy old guy working here (maybe the owner?) we've ran into several times. The prices can be a bit high. The wait can feel a bit longer than other similar places. They seem to have run out of the things that we like if we go in too late in the day. PROS: The other workers have always been friendly. The bagel sandwiches are SO amazing!! It used to be my favorite breakfast stop in the area. With new ownership it has most definitely went down hill, the service is very slow and the food quality is about 1/4 of what it was. Also the new owner put gloves on today to handle the money then proceeded to use the same gloves to make my bagel. I am no germ freak but that is disgusting and definitely not good safe. read more

Stopped in again recently-- Got there about 2:55 and planned on eating in. I noticed they closed at 3 and told the counter gal I'd take it to go since they were closing. She happily told me not to worry...they'd be awhile closing down, take my time. I think she actually meant it. I came in right before a breakfast rush and ordered 2 bagel sandwiches. I decided I'd eat in since I was already in the area waiting for my car. Anyway after I ordered and sat down and troves of people came pouring in for food. I watched as about 20 folks ordered and received there food and before I knew it I was sitting for 30 minutes and I said enough was enough and got up and waited for the couple people left in line and right before my turn the cashier that took my order said "Did you guys not received your order?" As if she wasn't aware we were 1 of 3 tables eating in and were sitting approximately 10 feet away from the register. She later then admitted our food left with someone else. Eventually when we finally received the food no one apologized for the inconvenience and the cashier was no where to be found. Customer service here was a complete joke and might I add, they had a full staff of people which in the past I've only seen maybe 1-2 people working in the past. I normally wouldn't mind when there are minor inconveniences but this just felt excessive, Insincere, and lack of concern.
