Poor selection available. Limited styles and sizes for what was there. The CSR Paige was very rude and not really helpful.

I'll be completely honest. I never want to go in to another Big 5 ever again. I went to hopefully find a tent but only left frustrated. All the tents that I wanted were way over priced but I needed one right away. The tent I wanted wasn't in stock on the floor, so i tried to find an employee. Now the store is very small, yet i couldn't find anyone to help me at all. There was no one at the cash register or within the store. I waited for about 5 to 10 minutes to find an employee to get my tent. Finally one came out of the back. I told her what i wanted and she went back to get it. She didn't come back for what seemed forever, and then gave me the wrong tent. When finally getting the right tent, they over charged me. The ad said it was 39.99 but it rang up as 69.99. I noticed it right away and told the employee that the price was wrong. She told me, that it was last weeks ad and they couldn't honor it. The AD WAS FROM this weeks advertisements! she argued with me for a while, and finally I said F it. I left went to Tri State and grabbed a better tent for cheaper . DON'T GO TO BIG 5 unless you want to wait 20 minutes, be over charged, and argued with by their staff. I haven't written on my Yelp Account for over 4 years. However, I feel so strongly about how deplorable Big 5 is that I've had to come out of retirement to let everyone know that Big 5 you suck. BIG 5. I hope you go bankrupt. read more

Big 5 Sporting Goods - 4 stars Great prices for quality shoes at this store. When I was growing as a kid it was very expensive to buy shoes all the time but we did not want the shoes to fall apart either so we would shop here and I would always get a pair of white Nike shoes. I would always get work boots from the same store because of the high quality and good prices. They also sell gym shorts at a fair bargain. They sell baseball bats, protective gear, and all sorts of things to help you exercise and have fun. The selection is great as are the prices, organization, and cleanliness of the store. The employees are so kind and professional that they will help you with finding the shoes that you need or anything that you're not sure is the best for you. Seriously - they will help you with the most trivial thing. A special shout-out to all the employees who work very hard at that store - thank you! read more

My go to spot for fun games, sporting goods and athletic shoes! The staff are friendly and helpful. We have always made this our kids shoes shopping stop. The prices can't be beat! Last year, I replaced my pair of walking shoes, and after identifying the style I wanted at another local shoe store where my new shoes were 'sale' priced, I was amazed to find them $20 cheaper at Big 5! I bought a pair of tennis shoes for my daughter here before a trip a few years back, anticipating she would be walking a lot. The shoes completely fell apart within a few weeks. When we got back from our trip, I took them back to the store and they exchanged them without a complaint! I had expected some push back, but not a bit. On a recent visit to the store doing some holiday shopping, two employees stopped what they were doing to hunt down the item I needed. The store was busy, but they took the time! I wish I could remember their names. Ultimately the item was located in another store. So very appreciated... you guys ROCK. read more

I am from CA & have shopped at Big 5 since I was a teen. When I became a parent, I took my kids to shop there for their sports needs. Great service, great prices and just all around great stores. The experience I witnessed today at this store was just awful. Employees standing around doing nothing but chatting & avoiding customers. Not one single greeting when we walked in. After we found what we needed, 1 employee looked at us & asked if we needed help...as we were heading to check-out?!! That wasn't the worst of my experience! I had arrived there with ny daughter & her friend ---athletes @ WSU. My daughter was celebrating her 21st & had gone in to exchange a mitt she received as a gift. The cashier, for lack of a better word was an absolute DICK! She explained the situation & from the get go he was rude, condescending & barking at her. Maybe he forgot that we were the customers? I wanted to step in as a parent but stood back because she was 21 & a young adult college student. As I watched, I realized the cashier had trouble understanding how to communicate, & my daughter realized the same. So she dumbed her answers down hoping he would understand her easier. No go, he was still not understanding & once his dim bulb lit up enough that he understood she had been answerimg his question, there was no apology or back down from him. Just a plain, uneducated DICK. The interaction put a slight damper on our birthday celebratory mood but once back in the car I told my daughter that she was never to go back to that store again. I told her to share with her friends and all. Plus, I told her anything she needed would be ordered online from any store except that one or I would buy & send from CA. I regret to say that I will never shop at Big 5 again & from now on will use a bigger, more well know chain with a SWOOSH to shop for any of our sporting needs. Bye-bye Big 5. read more

On June 10, 2014, I visited a Big 5 location in Moscow, ID with another person, whom I will call Matthew in protection of my privacy. I had purchased a few items from the clearance rack and Matthew purchased two men's workout shorts that were also on sale. We both checked out our purchases with cashier 1919529. When Matthew checked out his purchased items, he joked with cashier 1919529 and said that one of his shorts had "boogers" on it. Cashier 1919529 did not inspect the item and see if it really did have 'boogers' on the short. Instead, readily and willingly gave Matthew a 10% discount, and coded it "Damaged" on his receipt. When it was my turn to pay for my items, I asked cashier 1919529 if I can get the same deal as Matthew, the 10% discount. Cashier 1919529 told me that unfortunately no, because my items did not look "damaged." I feel like cashier 1919529 treated me differently due to my race. Matthew is of the same race as the cashier and I am of a different ethnicity. Cashier 1919529 had racially discriminated against me, because she treated me less favorably than Matthew and I spent double what Matthew had spent at your store! I am not sure what would constitute a 'damaged' item or factory defect with Big 5's policy, as we all probably know, having boogers on a pair of shorts would not qualify as a damaged item or factory defect. Moreover, items are tried on, returned, exchanged, and many different customers place their hands on clothing items from the clothing rack on a daily basis at retail stores. Unfortunately, not many people have clean hands when they handle clothing items for purchase. While some clothing or product items legitimately do have factory defect, does having a snot, food stain or whatever one wants to claim on clothing items possibly caused by a customer who handled it previously because of their dirty hands make this item "damaged?" Your employee (cashier 1919529) gave discount favorably to Matthew because of his race, not because the item had factory defect or factory damage. Big 5 management team may think, why complain about a measly 10% discount? Getting the discount is not the point, but practicing fair, ethical customer service. It's the principle and moral ethics of equal treatment regardless of race, color, national and ethnic origin, or immigrant status of customers. It is about Customer Service and I believe that customer service does not entail discrimination toward one race of human being over another. I believe your employee from Big 5 in Moscow, ID behaved unprofessionally, unethically, and immorally. Matthew and I, as well as cashier 1919529 know very well that the claimed item was not 'damaged,' she did a favor for Matthew by giving him discount because she wanted to and because they are both of the same race. She didn't need to put some special code, other than 'damaged,' on his purchased item. A roundabout way to give Matthew a discount. On the contrary, she conveniently didn't know or did not have the code to give me the same discount. Finally, I do not wish or intend for cashier 1919529 to get terminated from her position. Please do not terminate her. My intent is to voice my concern about Big 5's discriminatory customer service, specifically to the Moscow, Idaho location. However, management need to seriously address how customer service is practiced at this location. I believe that this employee need to be made aware of her customer service professionalism, ethics, and her own racial biases toward another person. I believe that in addition to providing product knowledge, productivity, and helping customers make the best choices of their purchases, customer service establishes delivery of fair and equal treatment of service to all customers, not limiting excellency of customer service to ONLY a certain group of people, race or of national origin. read more
