We went in about a month ago to try and get a custom piece done for my wife for Mother's Day. After waiting for the custom jeweler for about 30 minutes, I finally got a chance to speak with him. He stated that it was the second busiest day of the year due to the opening of the farmers market and that he didn't know how much we could get done. I sent my wife over to begin talking about her vision. The whole time, she felt as though she was an inconvenience. His overall tone, with me and with my wife, was that he was annoyed that we were bothering him. We proceeded but we left feeling rushed and unappreciated as customers. We ended up canceling, went to Sam Dial for the same process, and had a great experience there. I do not recommend this place. They may be for you, but they were not, and are not, for us. read more

I love this store. It's been a foundational store in downtown Moscow for decades. The variety of rocks and interesting stuff is mesmerizing and I like to look at everything. The staff is friendly and the head jeweler has gone above an beyond for me with several projects (ring, bracelet) -- his craftsmanship is superb. He's funny and bright, too, but often has a lot to get done because people know his work is great so sometimes you have to be patient, especially when it's a big downtown event day and the store is packed. read more

Our daughter is a budding geologist, so we have to find every rock hound store when we travel. This place is one of the better ones we have been to. Despite their retail, it really is part museum, with way cool petrified objects that you and I probably never could afford. Our daughter had to get several crystals/rocks that she rattled off the names of, and thankfully each were under $10 lol. I guess I can expect one to be a necklace for me at Christmas time. :) read more

First of all - THERE'S A STORE PUPPY. You walk in and are immediately greeted by a little dog who wants to play with you - very cute!! If that's not a reason to be inclined just to walk inside, I don't know how else to help you. Regardless, it's a very well stocked shop of crystals, gemstones, fossils, and other fun trinkets and jewelry. All are very lovely. In the back are employees openly working on jewelry in clear view. Even if you don't intend on buying anything, the place is like a little museum with the amount of things to look at. - Including a live rattlesnake in one glass enclosure. There is such a big variety in stones they carry. The staff was so friendly and helpful. 2 hours, $91 and 19 stones later we finally left the store. I will be returning next time I come back! Do not support this business. The snake there is being terribly neglected, and is obviously only there to look pretty. The snake is missing multiple rattles, has no hides, has no heating, and is surrounded by incredibly sharp rocks. Snakes are living animals and it's NOT hard to give them proper care. Im surprised the snake is still alive. Shame on this business and anybody who supports them. read more

I am in Idaho visiting family from Nevada and stopped into this shop for the first time yesterday. I am an avid rockhounder, primarily in Nevada but also Idaho and the other western states. This shop has a really nice selection of fossils, minerals, crystals and jewelry. They had me right up until I saw the rattlesnake in that horrid enclosure. I love and respect rattlesnakes. I have encountered them on my folks ranch in Idaho as well as out in the Nevada desert rockhounding. So I know a tad about rattlesnake habitat and I call bs on the prior responses this shop has given others who have expressed concern about Buddy. I get that Buddy can't ever be released into the wild and he will need live mice to sustain life but that enclosure is nothing but a gimmick and this shop has lost all respect I had for it. What a shame. Buddy is not even remotely in anything resembling his natural habitat. The rattlesnakes I have encountered weren't laying on saucers of gemstones packed like sardines in a display case! I can't wait to read the response I get! A way better shop choice would be Golden Arts Jewelry on Snake River Ave in Lewiston where they have fantastic minerals for sale and excellent jewelry repair and best of all no smarmy circus attractions! read more

I make it a point to come to this amazing rock shop every time I am back in Moscow. This past time I had a giant turquoise ring that needed resized and only had a few days before I was flying back to Chicago ---- Sophie helped me and was so accommodating and knowledgeable and went way above and beyond to make this crazy huge antique ring of mine fit me perfectly! The prices are super fair and reasonable and the staff really knows what they are talking about. Sophie especially takes extra time to talk you through the process and make sure you are happy with the product. Definitely a must visit in Moscow. read more

I love this shop. It is chalk full of fun and informative stones and crystals. There is always a little sheet with information next to the different options. I like that they have a lot of different options for the different varieties. IE loose stones, earrings, ect. It is difficult to choose what you want, but it is a good dilemma. read more

This store is absolutely amazing. Don't waste your time going to a jewelry store at the mall, this store has the most beautiful gemstones in beautiful silver and gold settings. Along with jewelry are various globes and curious to look at. You can easily spend an hour in this store. The employees are amazingly knowledgeable about the stones. I own three rings, my wedding ring (which was custom made for me), an Idaho Opal, and a Garnet, and they are absolutely magnificent. There's also a store "pet" - you'll have to visit the store to say hello. I won't spoil the surprise. =) read more

They are the best jewelry store in the area. This year I was looking for something special. I sent to the chain store in the mall, and was told because it would have to be sized, and Levian does its sizing exclusively, it would take weeks to get back and would not be here for Christmas. Gem state helped me pick a beautiful setting and stone, and I got it back this week. They also offered to do the cleaning and maintenance on my wife's other rings. We took our rings here to be resized. When we got them back, they'd gone from matte to polished and they'd chamfered the edge off the step in my husbands' ring. No phone calls asking if the change was OK. We'll be going elsewhere to get them made matte again. Sadly there's probably no fix for the change in the profile of the husband's ring. read more

The shop is endlessly entertaining, from the stamped tin ceiling down to the old school display cases. They have a fascinating totem animal in one of the display cases.
