This was probably my 3rd time in Big 5. I've been to a couple in the bay area, and was quite dissapointed, generally by the availability of shoe sizes, and finding people to help. We were on our way to Sequoia, and wanted to try snow shoeing. When we learnt that we needed waterproof shoes, we were just passing by this Big 5. We went in, and found shoes at excellent prices. The reason for the high rating is the excellent customer service that was provided. The folks there were very helpful in trying to find the right shoe in the right size. We walked out with a couple of pairs of waterproof snow shoes, and enjoyed snow shoeing :) read more

I had a disappointing experience at this Big 5. When I walked in, the employees were standing around talking to each other and didn't acknowledge me at all. No greeting, no "Can I help you find anything?"--nothing. When I finally asked a question, the response felt rude and like I was interrupting their conversation. What stood out to me was that after another customer walked in, they were greeted right away. That made my experience feel even more frustrating and left me wondering why I wasn't given the same courtesy. Customer service starts with acknowledging every customer who walks through the door. I hope management addresses this because everyone deserves to feel welcome when they shop. read more

I haven't been in a store to shop for shoes in 2 years? This was my first time inside this store. The people were ALL friendly. The young man leaving for break held the door open for us and said hello. The young man at the register welcomed us in and asked if we needed any help finding anything. We were back looking at shoes and a nice young man came back and helped me find my size and he recommended a dr sholls shoe due to my feet issues. I would have never tried those. They were perfect!! I visited the store on 6/17 around 9:30am to purchase some bullets. The gal behind the counter obviously hates her job. She treated me like a criminal buying bullets. I know the drill, I had my drivers license with me. I know she had to run it. I explained what I needed as I pointed to the box. She proceeded to bark at me which box! After she confirmed with me the "markings" on the box, I finally received my bullets. No smile, no guest relations. No thank you as I checked out. I believe her name started with an M on the paperwork but saw no name tag.. Perhaps it's frustrating waiting on us "legal gun enthusiasts ".. Always thought that Big 5 was over priced, so I never visited until recently. I found some amazingly great bargains here and even some of the every day items were not overly priced. The weekly ad has some great coupons for everything. From golfing items to tennis shoes, there is definitely a lot to choose from. Be forewarned though...if you want those great shoes on sale, you better visit the first day of the sale, otherwise you probably will find your size out of stock. Minus one star for never having enough of the sale items on hand. read more

I tried to buy items on a rack for sale but clerk was going to charge me full price even after another clerk verified items were on sale. I refused to pay full price for sale items and won't be back. I warn any customer to be sure and check their bill before paying. read more

I am on a camping journey. I go to Big 5 to stock up on fuel, misc. supplies and today was also looking at tents and a new camping lantern. Sadly I have an autoimmune condition that causes incontinence. While some would say I shouldn't be camping, I don't want to spend whatever time I have left in bed. I want to experience nature in all its glory until I can't walk anymore. I asked a young man if could I use the restroom. He said no. I said I have a medical disability I was shopping in the store, and I can't go find a bathroom. The reality is I wear depends and it costs a dollar and sometimes I have to change clothes if I am not "allowed" to use a restroom. He said we don't have one. I rather doubt he goes to Dollar Tree to use their bathroom. I have a portable toilet I bought at a Big 5 and every time this happens which is somewhere every day I feel like setting it up on the sidewalk and going. Or just go in my pants in the store and let them clean up the floor. I am sure that guy would have immediately called the police. MLK made it so everyone was supposed to have the right to use any bathroom. Now places outright say can't because of homeless or Covid. So you are not supposed to go to the bathroom anywhere but your house and if you don't have a house you do what?? I am mad especially because Big 5 is a camping store and not everyone on a camping trip has an RV with a bathroom!!!! I got some of what I needed at Dollar Tree after they let me use their bathroom a bit late but. I will get the rest of my list from now on at Walmart provided they have the butane canisters for my stove. I would hope that stores begin to look at their bathroom policy because even if I had a mansion when I need to use a bathroom I have no time to travel to do so. If that is the store policy that no matter what no one can use the bathroom well people who are world changers break rules out of compassion and empathy. Clearly not the employee I encountered. I think the managers should consider what would they do if they had to use the bathroom or their child did ...not leave their house? read more

Came into this store to get a sleeping pad and got sassed by a couple of old broads who somehow run this place. No one was at the any of the registers when we were ready to check out and when we asked we were talked to in a condescending tone. Learn some customer service techniques ladies. read more

My experience here was almost a 1 star. As I did get a discount from an employee who worked there, there was also more than that. I decided I didn't want the product I bought because it didn't fit my size, so I decided to call today, knowing that there would be a issue with the return, due to the employee lacking the responsibility of giving me a receipt. I thought that you were supposed to be offered a receipt? It's not the customers responsibility to 'remember' to get the receipt, it's the person who is your cashier, at least in my opinion. I called up, and she said, "sorry, you'll have to wait for that employee, she isn't working today." Are you joking? I do not regret this... This will be the last time they get my business, at least here in Los Banos. It's really not my fault that I wasn't offered a receipt, it's not my job to remember, even after the 2 buck discount, this goes far over that. Sorry Big 5, but no more business from me. I hope you think twice about giving your faithful customer a receipt. Poor business. Poor attitude. read more

I like coming to this store to get what I need when track season starts, decent stuff but nothing too new. I needed help getting spikes for my sprint shoes and the manager was super helpful, he even opened a new package just to confirm that they were the correct size. I was impressed at how friendly he was & I recommend coming here for whatever athletic gear you may need :) read more

I like Big 5 for the shoe sale's. Will go in & check out the selection when the time come's a new pair of tennie's are needed. As other's have stated, the selection of size's can be very limited, so shop the sale's early if you have your heart set on a certain pair of shoe's. read more
