GETTING HERE: Located in Camarillo off of Las Posas Road, between the roads of Arneill and Temple. The storefront is between the Kaiser Permanente and the AAA. REVIEW: Per usual, my shopping experiences at retail stores are ^always hit and miss. I've been to several Big 5's in the area and not one of my experiences has been better/worse than the others. Exactly. The. Same. I seem to interact with (at least) one great customer service employee, usually working in the shoe department. Most times I can find what I need in shoe, color, and size. When I ask a few questions about coupons and the like, the response is "you'll have to check up front". OK, no problama. When I spoke with the young employee about any coupon offers, it was as if i was pulling teeth from her. I also asked for a price check on an item I was interested in purchasing, and when I pressed further for it, she had an absolute flat affect that I wondered if she was was OK. (Literally). The price check inquiry ended up opening a huge can of worms as it wasn't in the system at all, etc. etc. The young manager came up and gave it his best shot, but to no avail. We are living in different times. However, if customer service isn't a deal breaker for you, I would recommend stopping by here. They seem to have a lot of items on the floor, but IMO finding your item still might be a hit/miss. read more

Every time I walk into this place I am greeted with a smile. Whenever I start overthinking the upcoming zombie apocalypse I wander in my local Big 5. I will walk the entire store and usually leave with some impulse purchase that should help when disaster strikes or I go here when I need something fun for my kids that gets them outside and active. They usually are well stocked and relatively inexpensive. Be sure to hit up the clearance section as they usually have something good. Although I may not visit this store as often as I should I still appreciate its presence. read more

Bad service, the guy working there have 0 sense of knowledge of customer service. If you dislike your easy job why don't you get another one? First I checked out, no Hi or how are you? I actually said it for him, then rang up my item with a BIG YELLOW ON CLEARANCE TAG yet he still rung it up full price until I pointed out the HUGE YELLOW TAG no sorry I didn't see it or anything and just changed my price & paided. Always a good place to get your camping supplies. They have lots of different items to play sports or go camping.

The worst of the worse if your a saltwater fisherman. No gear to choose from. They have no one to put line on reels, they sell very limited amount of fishing line. Basic tackle. Massive amounts of shoes and clothing. Do not waste your time here. read more

On Sunday May 2, 2021 , at around 7:45 pm . I wanted to pick up some basketball shoes , I checked online what time the Camarillo Big 5 closes .. It said the store closes at 8:30pm .. cool .. I arrived at the store at 8:00pm . I noticed a small crowd of people outside the entrance. The front door was LOCKED.. the people were explaining to the manager that the store wasn't supposed to close until 8:30pm . Some of the people had to purchase school supplies. The store manager named "Chandler" was on the phone with in assuming the headquarters.. the crowd was very peaceful... after about 15 minutes the crowd dispersed.. I was the only person left, then I noticed the Sheriffs Department deputies arrived .. wow , the manager called the police on us .. I stayed.. I wanted to leave AFTER the deputies left. The next day I called the Big 5 headquarters in El Segundo to complain.. mainly to find out why we were locked out and the police were called out on us .. I talked with a Lori , Then after our conversation , I asked what Big 5 can do for me .. since that we were in the right , and the cops were called on us .. I gave Lori my email address.. I was eagerly waiting for what I will get .......... I opened my email the next day ------ a dang 10% off coupon .... Lol Really ?? read more

Their sign says they open at 0930 on Sunday. The guy that opened today didn't show up until 0940 and turned us away saying they didn't open until 1000. Funny thing was that another employee showed up at 0930 and was waiting outside knowing that they opened at 0930. The opening worker turned away two customers because he told us it would be "a minute" before they opened. The worker was extremely dismissive and rude!!! read more

The best place to put chase sports equipment in town they always have everything on sale

To start off I would like to say that MOST of the time I receive great customer service at this store. It's local and perfect in and out for those last minute needs. I have purchased everything from gun safes, to kayaks, to firearms, to sporting goods here. Great store. The issue at hand is the direction the customer service is going. I want to reiterate once again that most of the time it is great, however recently its going down hill. Today I stopped in to get about $50 worth of last minute camping supplies. While I was shopping I noticed my phone was on low battery and tried to memorize the coupon code... unfortunately I was only able to remember half of it when it died. The cashier was very rude and was not willing at all to help me as I explained that my phone just died and started to recall the coupon code but only could get half of it out. The cashier, younger blonde female, suggested that I should go home to charge my phone and come back. I won't be going back. It's a shame that in this dying economy the direction customer service is going. With big name companies like Dick's Sporting Goods, and Sport Chalet going out of business you would think that Big 5 would capitalize on the opportunity to stay alive and no go under like the others. Well stocked, friendly helpful staff, plenty of parking, conveniently located away from the craziness of the outlets on the opposite side of Camarillo in the Albertson's shopping center where the furniture store used to be. Don't come here if you are expecting good customer service. Well ANY customer service at all. We walked in & not one person greeted us. Was looking for a mouth guard for my son & not one employee asked us if we needed help. They saw us there but DID not bother to come over & assist us in our search. Off to Dick's we go. I came here not really looking for anything in particular but walked out with four items. This store has so much stuff and great gift giving items. Clothes, shoes, toys, balls, workout items. Bought a new Jeep brand mountain bike... able to purchase the bike brand new with a hand pump, new helmet, and new lock all for about 250.00. The only downside was spending approx. 4 hours assembling the bike as purchased it came out nicely packed into a box. I bought a Stack On Gun cabinet. When I got it home and opened box there were 2 big dents in it. The sales person is the one who loaded it on my truck. I think the cabinet was damaged at warehouse as the styrofoam in box was fine. I called the store and they said there was nothing they could do since I waited a week to take out of container.
