    Club sandwich

This would be a great place to eat and hang out at if you were from Hastings. If not, I would recommend going to a corporate restaurant. I walked in and could tell they really were not interested in serving me. Was told several times someone would be right with me before I was finally offered something to drink. Ordered the Club sandwich. It was pretty basic. Honestly, McDonalds serves better food. Three stars is generous.

I do really like this place. It is dark and old and the Paulaner Heffeweizen is oh so drinkable. I indulged in two glasses in the middle of my day and don't feel one ounce of guilt over it. I ordered the Liver Steak---I ate it but would not order again because I myself like a thin cut of liver ---it was 12 and did not come with anything but a toasted brat bun and some onions and a few slices of bacon. If you need more carbs (believe me I do!) you have to spend another 3-4 dollars for a side and I think that is getting a bit much compared to other selections on the menu. If you go on the weekends you can possibly get some more family made authentic German dishes. So I would make that a goal if you are planning a trip. My server was friendly and prompt.

    Cheese curds and garlic toast

Bierstube is a classic. I've come here numerous times over the last two decades. I haven't been in awhile, so last Thursday the Prince and I went for dinner. It was a bingo and meat raffle night! We skipped the meat raffle but definitely played Bingo. The meat was from Duffs and worth the raffle game, but I'm at capacity for freezer space! A must have at Bierstube is a basket of the garlic bread- mixed. You get white and pumpernickel slices covered in butter and the mystery powder that might as well be crack. For our appetizer we opted for cheese curds rather than fried cauliflower or the Reuben balls. I love their fried cauliflower. The cheese curds were good, it had a thicker breading, almost like a chicken tender type breading. I prefer a crispy beer battered curd, but these will work. The Prince loved them and you get a TON! He ordered the kids chicken fingers and was unimpressed, which was strange because he's had them there before. But chicken fingers isn't their game. It's the burgers and steaks that you want to eat at Bierstube. I ordered a Reuben burger and thoroughly enjoyed it. I erroneously said "well done" when asked about my burger. I must have had a mental mishap. I'm not usually a well done burger person, but they will do it however you please. The steak is a good choice and not insanely spendy. Their wide selection of apps is appealing. They have good beers and older cranky waitresses to be sure and keep it small-town-old-school-cool. Head to the "stube" and don't miss bingo night with the man who works the crowd in overalls. He livens up the place and makes everyone feel welcome. If the beers, apps and steaks don't make you wanna buy the beer and wiener shirt then you just ain't right.

    Greetings!

Food was good. Sauerbraten was more shredded beef than a slice of beef (typical German). Nice atmosphere, super friendly staff.

An accordionist went from table to table playing classics like The Beer Barrel Polka and Edelweiss as well as some unexpected classic rock faves from the likes of Tom Petty, Queen and others. When they played happy birthday the entire restaurant sang along and enthusiastically chanted "Ziggy zaggy ziggy zaggy". It was a super fun time and my mother in law was happy. Most of us ordered one of the schnitzels. The portions are quite large. My wife and I split the jagerschnitzel. I don't really like to eat meat or fried foods, but there weren't a lot of other options. (Mob rule usually determines our restaurant choices when we go out with our in-laws). I felt it was kind of chewy and the mushroom sauce over salted and sadly lacking in actual mushrooms. That said, everyone else, including my wife, loved their food. My brother-in-law, raved about the roast beef with potatoes; however, he's not exactly a foodie. Bland, salty, overcooked foods are kind of his thing. My mother-in-law had the "pork knuckles". I don't know what exactly constitutes a pork knuckle, but the portion quite large. More like a pork leg, I'd say. She complained that it was way too much food, but somehow managed to put a pretty big dent in it, still saving enough for leftovers the next day. Fortunately, I was the only judgey food snob at our table and everyone else was more than happy with what they ordered. To drink, they had the usual German beers and wine. We ordered the Gluhwein, a spicy mulled red wine that is served hot. Very traditional and really good. I would definitely recommend it. If you want to experience fun, German night out, aren't concerned about your cardiovascular health and enjoy a hearty meat and potatoes type of meal, The Gasthaus Bavarian Hunter is worth a visit.

We had a party of ten, celebrating a 90"th birthday, they helped us celebrate with fun music. They don't provide anything special for the birthday person. Looking at the picture we knew we had to give it try. What cool comfortable place with lots of history behind the building. I love that place and their products. Well let's get onto the food. I was brave and had the Smoked Liverwurst. Hadn't had it for 30 years. Since I went fishing with my grandfather. Boy it was awesome and brought back some memories. The owner gave me large slices of bread so I could make a sandwich. The mustard and fresh onions made it! It was huge and tasty to say the least. It was only $9.95. Great price for lunch these days. We also had to share a pretzel that came with cheese and mustard. This has earned a spot on our lunch rotation.

As I walked to the back of the restaurant and sat at the bar, I noticed the beautiful outside patio. With a waterfall feature, I noticed there was a group of older folks there and found out it was their monthly German club! The ambiance is definitely German. Lots of deep oak woodwork, a beautiful bar with gorgeous stain glass windows at the back of the bar by the register. The lights glistened off of the giant hanging glass pitchers and beer steins. The bartender and waitress that both helped me were dolls. Had great suggestions on the menu, attentive, and talkative. I started with a potato pancake. It was delicious. Served with sour cream and applesauce like God intended. It was 5.50 for 1. Initially I thought that was pricey BUT it was worth it and I'd shell out the $9 for 3 next time. Then I had the sausage sampler. It came with two pieces of warm rye bread (tasted homemade), 3 different sausage links; chicken curry, bratwurst, and polish kielbasa...made in house. Lastly a small scoop of warm German potato salad. It was all good! I'll be back. No ranch used here so no rating.

Very authentic interior design; the bar area looked like many of the pubs we'd recently been to in German and Austria. The bartender came over quickly and got my glass of halbtrocken (half-sweet) Riesling. If you're only familiar with the American-style syrup they market as Riesling, you need to check out some German wines. "Trocken" is dry, "halbtrocken" is half-sweet, "FineHerb" (a relatively new designation) means off-dry and "süß" or suss, is sweet. On to the potato pancake appetizer. It arrived quickly, nice and hot, and served with both applesauce and sour cream. However, it wasn't the coarsely shredded potatoes I am used to getting in Germany; more of a fine shred, which gave it a different mouth-feel. From there, on to the beef rouladen. It takes a little longer but also came out hot, with sides of red cabbage, a roll, and a ton of spaetzle. Tasty, though the gravy was a little saltier than I'd have preferred. And if I'd eaten all that starch, I'd still be sleeping it off in one of their booths. Their menu also includes sausage samplers and other traditional items. Why only a three? Service and food were both good but not great. I thought the food was a little pricey: $26 for ONE rouladen with sides, and $6 for a single potato pancake. Three-and-a-half stars would be more fair but Yelp! doesn't give half stars. Finally (and I'm not really deducting points for this), no one on the staff that I encountered spoke ANY German. Even my basic, "Guten tag!" when sidling up to the bar was met with a blank stare. So... authentic? The atmosphere: definitely. The food: mostly. Final verdict: OK, leaning toward good.
