The caprese sandwich tasted good and the chicken was cooked well in all the dishes and not dry. The taste for both the chicken and waffles and Nashville hot sandwich was on point. The duck bacon wontons were fried perfectly with the gooey cream cheese and the duck bacon added the right amount of umami. The firecracker shrimps were the weakest of the items we ordered. While if was crispy and there were half a dozen shrimps, the flavor was very mild. The Mac and cheese was on point, especially the lobster one with a nice piece of lobster. Good flavors in the Mac and cheese. For dessert, we got the apple crisp skillet with a scoop of ice cream. Came out warm and was big enough to share. A little more cinnamon forward than I like but not too much. They were really trying hard but between opening just the week before and being super busy, they were having a hard time. But the helpful attitude and helpful attitude of the wait staff and the management went a long way to make our experience more enjoyable. Maybe we just got a bad batch...? Their coffee drinks are also very good. A few people at our table ordered lattes and said they were much better than an average latte. They were also very large. One thing that's both good and bad is that they change and rotate their menu fairly often. On the plus side, you can visit and try something new that you may not have seen there before. On the downside, some of our favorite dishes are no longer on the menu, which can be disappointing. The same thing seems to happen with their specials and deals. They used to have a Smashburger special, one day of the week, but I don't think that's offered anymore. I also remember several other specials they used to run that are no longer available. There have been a few times when that has kept us from visiting. Their hours are also weird at times, so I strongly recommend checking the hours on their website before making plans. They may not be open when you expect them to be. For example, we've wanted to go there for dinner several times on a Monday or Tuesday, but they aren't open. Kitchen closes early several other days. It was extremely busy when we arrived around 10:50 to 11:00 a.m. on a Sunday. We were honestly surprised by how packed it was, and there was a wait for a table. Just an FYI if you're planning to visit during a busy brunch time. Also, in case the owner is reading this, using AI-generated images on your website and inside the restaurant is a massive turnoff. I don't want to see AI-generated artwork on a restaurant's website or hanging inside the restaurant itself. That is an easy star deduction for me. The design and style of the restaurant are really nice. It has more of an open concept setup, so it can get a little loud, but for some reason it never seems to get as loud as you might expect. If you go during a slower time, it can be very relaxing. Overall, I really like the look and feel of the restaurant. I feel like I say this in 95% of my Yelp reviews at this point, but I'm going to keep saying it. The prices aren't great, especially compared with the portion sizes. I won't spend too much time on this, but if you're looking for a budget-friendly restaurant, this probably isn't the place. The service was mostly great. They were clearly very busy, but our waiter never refilled my water, and he didn't come back often enough for me to ask. He also didn't know what soups they had for the day, and instead of offering to go check, he just said he "didn't know" and my friend ordered something else for their side. Not a huge deal, but maybe a coachable moment. Since the restaurant was so packed, it also took quite a while to get our food and drinks. That was understandable considering how busy they were, but it's worth knowing if you're in a hurry. Overall, we really love The Better Half. The food is great, the coffee drinks are better than average, the restaurant has a nice and relaxing atmosphere, the staff is friendly, and there's usually something new to try. The higher prices, weird hours, rotating menu, discontinued specials, AI-generated artwork, and occasional slow service keep it from being perfect, but the great food and overall experience will keep us coming back, just not as often as some other places.

Throughout our entire visit, the bartender never smiled, engaged with us, or made any effort to create a welcoming experience. My date did not care for the cognac and asked to see the brandy selection. When the bartender retrieved a step stool to reach the bottle, she set both the stool and the bottle down roughly. The interaction again felt irritated and unprofessional. More broadly, it seemed as though the bar was overwhelmed, and no one was stepping in to help. The food has always been fantastic, and until this weekend, I would have happily recommended it. This past Saturday, my friend and I sat down on the patio and were approached by a waitress who has waited on us before. Very loudly--loud enough that the surrounding tables could clearly hear--she told us that "the last few times" we had been in, we had shorted them a couple of dollars each time. I was honestly stunned, because I know this is not true. I always pay by credit card, so I'm not even sure how we could repeatedly "short" a tab by a few dollars. My friend and I are also very generous tippers and would never intentionally underpay a bill. In fact, just two weeks earlier, I had placed a $10 bill on the table intending it to be her tip. She specifically asked me if the $10 was for her, and I told her yes. She took it, and I then wrote $0 on the tip line of my credit card receipt because I had already tipped her in cash. That $10 was approximately a 40% tip. What bothered me almost more than the accusation itself was the way it was handled. If there had genuinely been some concern about a previous bill, I would have had absolutely no issue discussing it. Mistakes happen. But there was no reason for it to be announced loudly enough for an entire patio to hear. It felt intentionally public and created an incredibly awkward and embarrassing situation. We were so uncomfortable that we got up and left without ordering and went across the street to The Moose instead, where we ended up having a wonderful brunch. I hate saying this because I truly have loved Spring Street, but after being a regular customer for so long, this experience was disheartening enough that I will not be returning. Even if there had been an honest billing discrepancy at some point, there was a much more respectful and private way to address it. Being publicly accused of something I know did not happen was completely unnecessary and, frankly, bizarre. I'm disappointed that a place I've enjoyed for so many years ended this way.
