Dr. Bicalho is the best doctor I have ever had. I have been going to her for 10 years and am so happy with her service. She is so helpful, informative, and caring regardless of the situation or questions I come in with. If you are looking for a OBGYN look no further. Before she was my doctor (when I was in my teens and early 20s) I had always dreaded these appointments. She makes every patient feel comforted and taken care of. I am so thankful to have her as my doctor and will be going to her forever. read more

I feel like Dr Bicalho is a very competent doctor... With a horrible bedside manner. Her office is always terribly busy and for this she is always rushing in and rushing out. Take a breath to ask another question and she is gone. During my last annual visit, I apparently had a minor infection. I learned this when Walgreens called to tell me my prescription was ready. Even after I called the office, I received no apologies and no one seemed to know what was going on. My other major complaint is how she handled me during a time period when I had a serious and very painful pelvic problem that still needed diagnosing. She treated me like a child who was exaggerating a minor wound and then gave me a precautionary tale of opiate abuse. Then as she exited the room, she very nonchalantly asked if I had seen my psychiatrist (you have one, right?) about the "pain". First of all the pain was real and a not a manifestation of a psychiatric problem, second of all, I think it is a highly unprofessional way of deducing information from a patient. I don't have a psychiatrist! (So nope, havent seen him/her) But in that one misguided sentence I understood how she felt about me and my supposed pain. I have since been diagnosed with a very real, very painful disorder that could have even been " caught" by her MONTHS before (Fully within her scope of practice). The pieces of a great Dr are all there, but for some reason, at least with me, they just don't click. read more

Had Dr. Bicalho with both of my pregnancies and I cannot say enough good things about her and her staff. I honestly do not understand the negative reviews, and I guess people have their own ideas and expectations of what their care should look like. I want a doctor who will not go beating around the bush, who tells me things the way they are, who answers all of my questions, and reminds me that no question is a stupid one. Dr. Bicalho is all of that. She's also very respectful of cultural/personal beliefs, and tries to advise/care for you respecting what you want your experience to be as much as she can. I read negative reviews about her bedside manner, that was most definitely not my experience, not even once, not even for 2 seconds. She has always been extremely nice and caring, as has been her entire staff. Whenever I had a question, needed a referral, I always received a call back in a timely manner. I am not planning to have any more children, but I will definitely stick around as a patient for gynecological care. read more

The best doctor anyone can ever find!!! Second baby with her, happy pregnancy, very understanding doctor, natural way to take care of patients, flexible, accommodating, but also good advise always. I'll be back ) read more

I had my third son with Dr. Bicalho. My first two I had at Prentice and half way through my pregnancy with my third, Northwestern stopped accepting our insurance. I asked around and several of my friends suggested her. I was a little nervous to switch, but my goodness am I glad I chose her. To be honest, I wish I had all of my children with Dr. Bicalho. Not only was she so incredibly kind and willing to answer all of my questions, but the entire staff on the day of delivery was next level. I mean seriously, blew my mind. They were all so tender and kind and helpful. I know that Prentice is the sought after place to have babies in Chicago, but I hope you consider Dr. BIcalho and Advocate because I strongly recommend it! read more

I went to Dr. Bicalho for my first pap in about 3 years (whoops) and had a terrible experience. The nurses went through their routine as if I had been going there for 20 years. I got zero direction or information that would have been helpful being a new patient who hasn't been to an OB/GYN in years and especially new to that office. I felt like I was constantly having to ask "stupid" questions that I shouldn't have to as a (new) patient. The experience with Dr. Bicalho was confusing and uncomfortable. I went for a general check up and pap smear but another huge reason why I went was to inquire about beginning birth control. I was 25 at the time and had never been on birth control so I had a lot of questions and was very timid about the whole thing. Dr. Bicahlo acted as if I was in a drive thru placing my order and rattled off about 2 basic facts about B.C. before she said point blank "I will start you on a low dose Rx" and began writing the prescription and started towards the door. I was able to ask about 2 more questions, each as she inched closer towards the door, and she said the nurse would give me more info. That was it - I was left with about a million questions and hesitations about side effects, cost, risks involved, etc. She left without a single word, not a " thank you, nice to meet you", not "you can get dressed now", not even "the nurse will be right with you". So I waited for about 10 minutes, all the while getting more and more frustrated, before I finally put my clothes on and walked out. I took about 4 steps before a nurse rushed over and made me feel like I was doing something wrong before handing me printed off google information about the risks of birth control. Something I could have (and did) research myself. The info had nothing to do with the specific B.C. that the Dr. had prescribed. The nurse didn't tell me where they sent the Rx, when it would be ready for pick up, what it would cost- NOTHING. I can honestly say I will NOT be back to see her or any other Dr. in her practice. read more

Dr. Bicalho was truly a lifesaver. After going to doctor after doctor (with no fix to my problems), upon a recommendation from a friend, I was sent to her. She identified my problem immediately (after years & $$$ wasted at another big hospital gyno center.. cough.. NMH...) and fixed it. I didn't think my problem could be solved so easily but like that, I was better. Her nurse Fabiola is excellent. No matter when, where and why I call, she gets back to me asap. She truly loves her job and takes care of the patients. I no longer dread the doctor because Dr. Bicalho and everyone in her office rocks. read more

I am not even sure where to begin. I went to Dr. Bicalho last week and had one of the most traumatizing experiences I have ever had at a Gyno appointment. I got called back into my appointment about 15 minutes late. Once I was finally in my room, the nurse quickly took my vitals and told me to undress and wait for the doctor. About 50 minutes later Dr. Bicalho walked in and did not even mention the extremely long wait. Her bedside manner is terrible. The whole time I was trying to explain my condition to her, she was busy trying to open a file on her computer. She had clearly not read any of my information before she came in and quickly started recommending things that I had already tried. I had to receive an exam because I was a new client. Before I could even get comfortable she started her exam with no warning. It was rough & painful and she did not describe anything she was doing. I have never felt more violated in my entire life. To make a long story short - I highly advise NEVER going to see her. I cried for about 2 hours after my appointment because I was so traumatized. The only good thing she did for me was recommend me to Dr. Abraham R. Shashoua who I went to a few days later and had a much better experience! Highly recommend him. read more

She did my hysterectomy (trans man), was in and out of the OR in 2 hours. Surgery went great, no problems recovering so far. The appointment before the procedure, however, was uncomfortable at best. The office put me down as F on the paperwork, misgendered my primary care doctor, and gave me a vaginal exam without warning me beforehand. The exam was rough and she didn't use enough lube, then tried to tell me I have vaginismus because I was tensing up (no, really, I wonder why I tensed up, maybe because your hands were near my junk?). I'll still recommend her to other trans patients but be warned about the exam, if you're not really okay with her touching your junk you may have a hard time. read more

I went to doctor Bicalho referred by my family doctor, however, I did not have the greatest experience. She is not personable at all ; when I called back after my tests to asked questions I just felt like she did not care and wanted just hang the phone on me. I did not get answers to my questions. The nurse is great but what I most need is a compasionate doctor and I learned that she is not the one for me. Hope it helps. read more

Dr. Bicalho, her colleague OBGYNs, and her staff are dangerously incompetent. They seem incapable of locating test results, they have brought me in for follow up appointments only to have me watch them read my file and send me out on expensive referrals, and they order unnecessary tests. I do not feel safe in their care nor do I feel that they have my best interest or the best interest of their patients in mind at any time. I strongly strongly urge all women to stay away. read more

I have gone through a few gynecologists and had some pretty grim experiences, so I was so happy to find Dr. Bicalho. She is kind, articulate, energetic, and does her best to make you feel comfortable during an inherently uncomfortable situation. I also like her office staff. So she's my go-to person now. read more

She is so friendly, understanding and knowledgeable. She spends time with you, which I feel like is hard to find in Dr.'s. I highly recommend Dr. Bicalho. There office is fantastic, but busy. read more

Dr. Bicalho is an outstanding Oby/Gyn. I went to her for 5 years and if I didn't move away from Chicago, I would still be there. She provided excellent support for me when my husband I were contemplating having our first child in our mid-40's. Then, when we conceived, she was there every step of the way ! She addressed all of our questions and concerns. I delivered my baby on her birthday and it was her day off, but she still came in to the hospital to see how I was doing. She also provided treatments when I had abnormal results and consulted with me along the way. She would always make a personal phone call to update me on my results and progress. It is rare to find doctors like this who care so much. I highly recommend Dr Bicalho! read more

Dr. Bicalho is my wife's OB/GYN and she delivered our baby daughter this past summer. We were very pleased with Dr. Bicalho. She was always extremely nice, patient, courteous and professional. My wife has seen approximately three other OB/GYNs in Texas, Washington, DC, and Chicago, and Dr. Bicalho was definitely our overall favorite. FYI-Unless scheduled for induced labor or a C section, you will get whoever is on the rotation for her practice to deliver your baby. Dr.Melissa Dennis and Dr. Stephanie Heraty from this same office, however, also were great so we would have been very pleased with them delivering our baby as well. If Dr. Bicalho weren't our doctor or availablr, my wife would gladly see Dr. Dennis as she was especially competent, caring, and professional. Highly recommended!! read more

I have been seeing Sylvia for 16 years. She seems to be more interested as a Obstetrician than Gynecology. She asked me about my ex-husband while I was nude which was awkward since we have been divorced for 10 years.. Then, I asked for a refill on prescription on medication to help me with peri-menopause and she told me to stop drinking soy milk, drink coconut milk, and get acupuncture. Then she would not refill meds and said they were a "narcotic" which they are not and not a controlled substance. So, she didn't even research what she gave me. . read more

Unfortunately, my experience was short-lived with Dr. Bicalho. I called to make an appointment at a very vulnerable time in my life. I had a *pre-authorization* from my insurance to see her, and Advocate Illinois Masonic by law takes my insurance in general (BCBS). I have had an operation there and seen neurosurgeons, endocrinologists, and other specialists. But, the staff at this office are confused and don't know their job. I spoke to three different people who gave me a date in February for an appointment, took all my information, then told me to hold..... when the next person would come on the phone, same questions as if I was a new caller and had to repeat it all again... three times!! After the third hold, she came back on the line and said "here's the number to a clinic that can take you". No explanation. I had to ask, "So does this mean I now cannot make an appointment?". The answer was "Yes, if you were not a new patient we could take you, but since you are new we cannot". Which is funny since I was given a date. Basically, it was too confusing for them to figure out if I could see the doctor with my insurance, so they passed the buck and sent me somewhere else. Thanks for your lack of help! I will write to the hospital to complain about this event. read more

Dr. Bicahlo is professional, thoughtful, intelligent and really listens. I went to two other OBGYNs before finally keeping Dr. Bicahlo. The two other people could not find a reason for my ailment, but Dr. Bicahlo did. The practice is very busy and sometimes it can be tough to reach her. Make sure if you need an appt. you leave yourself a bit of time as it can be hard to schedule. Other than that, no complaints! I have been seeing her for about 5+ years now and hope she never retires! read more

I love Dr Bicalho. I had met with so many obs after having a bad experience with my last one. I was very apprehensive and worried about finding the perfect doctor and I am pretty sure she is it. She always calls me back, she is more than willing to take time to speak with you about any concerns. One day I even had like some sort of an emotional breakdown in her office and she talked me through it. It was so sweet. My husband and I are so happy she is taking care of me and my baby. read more

Dr. Silvia Bicalho was absolutely a pleasure to have as our OB/Gyn during our pregnancy. The nursing staff, front office staff and facilities are second to none. There are about 7 (not sure) doctors that work together at this practice, we met 5 of them and all were wonderful people who were extremely diligent, patient and smart. Again, the nursing staff is very friendly, never rushed or understaffed and pleasant. You do need to make appointments in advance which is pretty standard. Dr. Star delivered our child as Bichalo was not on call that evening and she was amazing as well. Great facilities, neonatal care is second to none and I would go back to them for the next child. Many thanks to the whole team! read more

When I found out by ultrasound that I had a large mass in the space near my uterus, I was referred to Dr. Bicalho by Aris Health (Howard Brown Health Care). As a 47yo woman, I was nervous about the implications and unfamiliar with Advocate or the docs. I was immediately put at ease by Dr. Bicalho's office staff, and our first appointment instilled confidence and security. Dr. Bicahlo has a wonderful bedside manner and spoke to me at my level. I think she could establish rapport with just about anyone. My spouse and family were very impressed with her as well. Surgery to remove the benign tumor and an open abdominal hysterectomy were performed. This wonderful doc and talented surgeon checked on me numerous times before and after the surgery, and I am now completely healed and ready to move on from this chapter in my life. I am so grateful to have been referred to Dr. Silvia Bicalho. Thanks, doc! read more

I have been seeing dr. Bicalho for over 7 years now! She is a wonderful professional and human being! Since my husband and I were having difficulty getting pregnant, she was able to recommend us a great fertility clinic. After becoming pregnant and returning to her care, dr. Bicalho did an outstanding job during a fairly complicated pregnany. I felt very safe in her care! Dr. Bicalho answered all of my questions and acknowledged all of my concerns at every prenatal visit, while putting me at ease and normalizing some of my concerns. We are now proud parents of a healthy little girl! The labor and delivery experience at Masonic was fantastic! We had amazing nurses and dr. Bicalho was with us throughout the 16 hours labor and delivery!During my prenatal care, I saw some of dr. Bicalho's colleagues as well, and they are fantastic as well! I would highly recommend her practice at Masonic! read more
