I really had…read moremy hope ups after a negative experience the previous year with an Ob-gyn at Northwestern Medicine. At least these ladies gave me a pelvic exam, hence the 2 stars instead of 1, but the exam was really odd and technical, and they told me they can't do PAP smears, that I'd have to go to an Ob-Gyn for that (whaaat? I thought you were an Ob-gyn?!). There were 2 ladies in the room with me (1 Dr and 1 PA? or 1 PA and 1 nurse? I can't remember) and I felt like they were talking in code while one of them was elbow deep. Since I was paying $500 for the appointment, I wanted a little more insight into what they were saying about me and why. Afterwards, during the "talking part" of the appointment, I felt rushed. They did not inquire further into the symptoms I reported on my intake form, nor did they think doing any bloodwork was necessary, as I'm over the arbitrary age 40 cutoff for "early" menopause. They brushed off my symptom of chest pain and provided me no insight whatsoever, despite marketing themselves as menopause experts. They basically just wrote me a script for the Combo Patch and sent me out the door (a script that Walgreens later filled incorrectly, but that's another story.) They did not present me with medication options or review the specific effects of the medication, which really bothered me, because HRT has the potential for serious side effects, and this appointment cost me $500 (the self pay rate). Ladies my age (and older) are bombarded with articles about "low" vs "high" levels of this or that and recommendations to get our hormones levels checked, but the practitioners at Northwestern Medicine are content to prescribe HRT based on symptoms alone and are not interested in looking any further.

They listened to me (what a concept!) about problems I believed were linked to menopause, and I was treated based on what I felt needed attention first. Results began to become apparent within 4-6 weeks. Their generous support extended to other, related departments as well. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

It was in August. they said it'd be a while before her schedule was available. I called back several weeks later after not hearing from them. When I said I was calling to follow up, they knew who I was ("This is Nikki, right?") and then they never called me back. After trying to explain each month I can hardly walk or even stand up she told me cardio would help. This appointment made me feel so hopeless, I've never cried in a doctors office until yesterdays appointment. She told me she "didn't want me to feel like she was just throwing a pill at me" but that's exactly what happened. I wasn't able to explain myself, and I think it really comes down to me being young. I'm only 20, but I know my body, I've been going through my cycles for nearly 9 years, and I didn't feel heard. I tried to make it clear that my menstrual cycle is nearly tearing my life apart and I don't even know if I can make it through another month, but she told me to come back in 4 months to see if anything changed. I tried being as open minded as possible, and I understand that she is busy, but this just added to my negative experiences of women's health care. This doctor would be great for someone looking for reassurance that they're healthy, but if you feel that something is wrong, based off my experience, I would NOT recommend this doctor. Unfortunately, especially if you are young :(

I came to Dr. Butler with concerns about chronic pain in my vulva. Over the course of the ten minutes she spent we me she proceeded to blame my recent weight gain, tell me I was "being dramatic", and condescend to me for using the wrong medical terms about a condition I did not know about until that visit. On top of her overall horrible bedside manner, she was unnecessarily rough while examining me causing me to cry out in pain. When I did so she asked me why I was acting like I was in pain despite the fact that I was there because of pain in my vulva. After having complications with a medication she prescribed me I returned to the office to find out what was wrong. After waiting with my clothes off for a full half hour she chided me for returning over something "so minor" and then preceded to act as though I was making up that she prescribed me the medication that cost me $120 with insurance. When she finally found the note that she had in fact prescribed this medication she completely dismissed my concerns. I have now left her office crying twice because of her rough treatment and I advise anyone looking for a gyno in the city to steer clear.

Take a breath to ask another question and she is gone. During my last annual visit, I apparently had a minor infection. I learned this when Walgreens called to tell me my prescription was ready. Even after I called the office, I received no apologies and no one seemed to know what was going on. My other major complaint is how she handled me during a time period when I had a serious and very painful pelvic problem that still needed diagnosing. She treated me like a child who was exaggerating a minor wound and then gave me a precautionary tale of opiate abuse. Then as she exited the room, she very nonchalantly asked if I had seen my psychiatrist (you have one, right?) about the "pain". First of all the pain was real and a not a manifestation of a psychiatric problem, second of all, I think it is a highly unprofessional way of deducing information from a patient. I don't have a psychiatrist! (So nope, havent seen him/her) But in that one misguided sentence I understood how she felt about me and my supposed pain. I have since been diagnosed with a very real, very painful disorder that could have even been " caught" by her MONTHS before (Fully within her scope of practice). The pieces of a great Dr are all there, but for some reason, at least with me, they just don't click.

Demanded cash under the table in large amounts for further appointments that evidently had included terminating my insurance at appt dates, only for Naperville at one point, and false statements about accepting my insurance that when I went to the insurance company finally they did remedy as well as make sure she no longer was able to withhold records and for cash only for that either. But that is the one criticism I have, which is that office staff are able to and there was nothing I could do about it or the disturbance she was conducting for a good two weeks. At one point she went on at length about how the patients must learn all of their computer systems per office, and its evidently become somewhat like that with and via office managers in general at least at that point. I would actually recommend not returning any manager calls or emails that start like this and instead going straight to the insurance company to get your records and terminate the disturbance. In the long run HRD can sue the companies about staff vs us, but on this basis, ending the disturbance and stranger danger bullying and worse, is all you can do. There is law separating us from them with annual training course training required by HRA, but beyond that, you are being dragged into a war only they benefit from unless forcibly terminated. Licensing almost always also does this, but its also a long drawn out nightmare potentially while they keep going, vs insurance company vs to enforce the law to be on their provider list as clout being waived, able to complain on your behalf if they feel they should. Its pretty much all you can do. Also per insurance co as the only people who will and can protect you from them. And having the same problem reaching anybody who would provide mandatory licensed instead of the office staff. You have a computer system database invasion of your regulated info access by a practitioner unsupervised stranger danger when they do this highly illegal thing to patients and customers. Almost always anonymous due to illegality known to the employee. In banking at one point in the 90s, people like this were "borrowing" savings account deposits as 'free loans' to invest and return that got caught when they couldn't put the money back. The federal court issued a ruling allowing supervisor arrest for not monitoring the employees in that kind of case and theft "under their noses". Here they would need to block employees from unlimited access to our information and supervise them to stop them, and set computer system alarms and triggers notifying practitioners, but so far I know of nobody coming down on practitioners or other entities when staff do this but at US Bank also banking industry. In an analagous in that misuse regard, we now have to go somewhere else also for that much safety from the persons involved, of unknown relationship or what provoked this. But you can get your records out of them which are actually in turns out are supposed to be available on demand for free from the electronic portal but you have to know that and locate them. It was very sad in some ways after that kind of a very positive experience with the doctors who made a real difference vs what it usually seems or can turn into causing nasty problems that shouldn't be there., for years and years, and the office in Naperville or Lutheran General a couple of times. But it seems to be a coming plague with office employees and the public with licensed regulated services that aren't per regulation when the staff can turn them into this with a danger to you if they successfully entrap you into more than terminating the anonymous office person and getting your records, etc. Appears to be computer system office management system created as a problem in general potentially anywhere you go that could happen any time. Always licensed services are immediately out the window when it does. There is so little on practical basis that you can do about it and your safety, with your medical services out the window entirely, that its important to know how to at least get your records so you can get timely care somewhere else if at all possible and the insurance company can address what is supposed to be 30 days notice required also for services with a covering physician and refills, if you can't do it fast enough to go somewhere else in time for any reason.
