This time I…read moreneeded a toilet fill valve replaced, a hot water faucet repaired, and possible insertion of a bidet wand on one toilet. I had the fill valve purchased new from Home Depot as I thought it would save me money to have my own new part. I also had the bidet wand. As is typical for some companies today there was a charge to come out--not to be applied towards my bill. The young man came in to see what the work was and then out to the truck to call the office on pricing. I told him/showed him, the fill valve I had purchased. He told me they will not use customer provided parts. I asked him to ask the office again about this policy , he did, and nothing changed. His pricing for these 3 jobs was over $900. I told him I wanted parts and labor to be itemized. Answer was 'we don't do that', 'we have flat fee pricing'. Between the cost and their refusal to use the new part I bought, I told him to only handle the fill valve part of the job however I insisted on an invoice with parts and labor itemized. Again, they refused to do so. I called the office to speak to the service manager, and he again refused to comply with my request, again repeated the flat fee pricing. In the end I got no-where. I asked to see the box the new fill valve came in--no surprise--same company part as what I had purchased. Cost for the 11 minutes max it took him to replace the part? $373.12 to include the $79. arrival charge. Did not get an itemized bill. What are they hiding? Knowing cost of parts and cost of labor is a routine and reasonable request of a customer, and many companies automatically provide this information without being asked. Addendum: I had the other 2 parts of the initial job completed by another company for $265.00 and automatically received an itemized bill. Note that even combining the two companies charges, the total is not close to exceeding $900 which Hirschberg quoted when they job costed initially.

Nicholas came out to my place within an hour, determined the problem, left to get the part needed and 30 minutes later my AC was up and running. There is no doubt in my mind some of the other companies, we all see advertised, would have charged me at least $1500.00 to repair my AC. Nicholas charged me well below what I expected. If you have an HVAC or plumbing problem, I strongly endorse Nicholas and Jackson Mechanical to resolve your problem quickly and to your satisfaction. I have some plumbing work and I will be using Nicholas and Jackson Mechanical to take care of redoing a shower, moving some water lines, and more this upcomg fall. We have no clear path or timeline for getting our heat back and are extremely concerned at the integrity and competence of this business. Ours heat stopped working in the downstairs part of our home which includes the kitchen, living room and kids basement playroom. It took them 3 full days to send someone to investigate the issue despite it being below freezing the entire week. When someone finally did arrive, they told us a critical part broke and we needed to wait 2+ weeks for it to arrive. Then they brought the wrong part. Then they said the part still isn't fixing the issue. In the meantime, we've endured multiple days of below freezing temperatures, a snowstorm and multiple dinners literally wearing coats. We've tried calling the owner and his response was entirely unhelpful and apathetic. At this point, they can't explain why the system they installed one year ago isn't working. In the meantime, the service people that have come to our home have literally napped in our kids playroom couch and smoked pot in our driveway while "waiting for tech support. Attached is an image of my kids couch in our basemewhich is drenched in sweat and body odor from where the most recent techs slept. We've also spent a fortune on running space heaters to keep the house mildly functional.

When the plumber came he said Moen is the worst brand and then told us we bought the wrong kind, we need cordless. When my fiancé tells him that we were told by the woman he spoke to when he made the appointment we didn't need a specific garbage disposal, he said we can't listen to the office because "they are just two women who don't know what they're talking about".... Yikes! The plumber was impatient with us for buying the wrong garbage disposal, and said he couldn't do anything and wouldn't be able to come back for days. I walked out of the room and my fiancé stayed with him asking what we should do - we just need to get a new garbage disposal that doesn't have a cord. So we call the office when the plumber leaves to see when we can get another appointment and the woman says tomorrow. Great. Then we get a call back and the woman says the plumber won't be returning to our home because we did not take his advice and he's an expert of 25 years and she hung up on us. Steer clear of these guys.

TLDR : This place recommended complete replacement of my furnace/AC combo unit (~$15,000), when in…read morereality, a $300 part took 20 minutes for a laymen to install. Look elsewhere for a trusted HVAC company! Detail: Be very careful with this company. My furnace was making a loud rumbling sound so I called C&C based on a referral from a friend. Front desk was really nice, she did mention there could be a diagnostic fee of $69 on top of the automatic $129 service fee if the technician needed to do a deep assessment to figure out the problem. In the end, my inducer motor went bad. This is a problem that should be immediately identifiable by an experience technician, but they charged the $69 fee for "minor diagnostics." Ok, fine, but then, instead of quoting a repair they called it "costly" and recommend COMPLETE REPLACEMENT OF THE ENTIRE UNIT. The sales guy called me to schedule a time to come and give a replacement estimate. I had to stop him, and ask what the repair of the motor would cost. He couldn't quote it at the time. The next day, the office called me and quoted the repair at $1100. At this point, I didn't really trust the place, my unit is about 18 years old but is in decent shape, there is no reason to jump to complete replacement. So I googled the serial number and found the replacement part, confirmed with a friend in another state who has HVAC experience. The replacement motor was $300 online, shipped next day delivery. Talking with my friend, and looking up induce motor replacements online, I decided to give it a shot. I am barely handy and the repair took me 20 minutes; a few mounting screws, an electrical connector, and a hose detach/reattach and it was done. Furnace kicked right on, back to normal. So glad my instincts were right about this place and I got away just giving them $200 ($129 service call + $69 diagnostic fee) and stopped responding to them trying to replace my entire unit!
