BF Bakery & Café is located inside of the Irvine 99 Ranch Market. As you enter the store, it's on the far left corner. This is a pay and go shop with no nearby seating. Baked goods are displayed in cases directly across from the cashier and refrigerated pastry case. The pastry case has a nice selection of whole cakes available for purchase. The baked goods case has a good variety of treats in puff pastry or buns. Today I tried the curry chicken pastry and a couple of taro pastry balls. The taro pastry has a nice flakey exterior with a generous taro filling. The curry chicken pastry was my favorite. The delicate puff pastry was light yet flaky and was stuffed with a very good filling to pastry ratio. So pleased that they do not skimp on the protein! There were a couple of ladies working the counter area and both were friendly and patiently answered my questions. I went there and the service was quick. When I ordered a boba drink I got the boba less than 3 minutes. The table and the seat nearby is clean but it isn't the best place to eat at. What I ate there: Fuji bread 7/10 - It was buttery and fluffy. It's really good with milk. Pandan Bread 4/10 - Although it had pandan flavor, it was too dry and a little too sweet for me. Located inside 99 Ranch on the left when you enter, this hidden gem has a lot of pastries similar to what you find with 85C, including 8-9 inch cakes that are pretty good. So I knew they do a good job with cakes because I had cakes from here awhile back, before everything became modernized in 99 Ranch and it was great. Nowadays, it's just as good as I remember it. So I ordered a full taro cake, made early in the morning and out on display in full form to just purchase and take home, and later at my party it was a huge hit. It was sweet but not overwhelmingly so as with most Asian pastries, the bread was moist and fresh, and the layers had a good mix of bread on the top and bottom layer, while the rich taro layer lies in the middle. Price-wise, I thought it was really good. $22 for a high quality cake that was universally popular at the party is very good. Service was very good here, something that is also great here. They have a lot of old fashioned Asian style pastries that are getting harder to find. Here are some of my favorites that I tried here 1. Pineapple bread or Pineapple Buns 菠蘿包 This bread can be a hit or miss and BF does it just right. Flaky and slightly coconut-ish sweet at the top and soft & chewy on the inside....if you're ever in Taiwan the 7-11 version is pretty good. 2. Red bean baked buns 3. Taiwanese Green scallion buns 4. Yelp 2015 Challenge #18 What? Bread Farm 2 stars? Yes :/ I came here expecting that the Bread Farm here would be similar to the one I had tried at the 168 Market in Rowland Heights. Wrong. Located in the 99 Ranch Market on Culver Drive in Irvine, Bread Farm is in the corner of the market and supplies the 99 Ranch Market bread :P. They have the usual pan de leche, the cupcake. They had the green onion bread (which they just brought out) and I thought it was hot (since it had come out). As soon as I made my purchase... cold. Nope. And I was like what? O_O BUT THEY JUST BROUGHT IT OUT. Wow. Just wow. Their prices are the same as the other Bread Farm ($1.25 or $1.79 or $2.25+) and the selection is varied. But the way this Bread Farm looks doesn't look as aesthetically pleasing as the other one I went to. Service is also nonexistent (I went around the shelf with the bread 2-3 times and no acknowledgement). I only got it when I was purchasing. They have the mexican blueberry for $1.25 but it tastes a little bit more goopier. Their bread outside was cute and tasteful. But also cold D: Yep. They had bread and I thought some of them would be warm and just out but no :/ I would rather go to the JJ bakery around the corner. Way better. read more

The 99 Ranch weekly flyers advertise baked goods noting that they aren't available at the Irvine Culver store. It is true that there isn't a 99 Ranch bakery at this store, but there is a bakery located in the store, BF Bakery & Cafe. It is located on the left side of the small food court area at the front of the store. The baked good selection at BF is somewhat similar to 85C as the offerings are Taiwanese rather than Cantonese. The prices are pretty competitive. I saw many pastries priced either as $1.25 or $1.79. They have a BOGO promotion on a few of their buns. On my visit here, there were 4 items to choose from. My parents who frequent this bakery often told me that the BOGO selection changes. So don't expect the same things to be BOGO every time you go. I tried a few of their buns while visiting Irvine last week. I really like their custard bun as the bread's softness holds up well after a day or two. I would also recommend the coconut bun as it also is delicious. The ones here are shaped differently than the ones at Cantonese bakeries. I can also vouch for their sandwich bread as it is the soft variety that you find at Japanese bakeries called shokupan. Though I would avoid the green onion bun that they have here as the taste was not to my liking. If you are shopping at the Irvine Culver 99 Ranch, BF is worth checking out for their baked goods. Their prices are cheap compared to 85C and they have BOGO specials, so it is worth giving them a try for those reasons to see if you can find a new favorite pastry here. read more

We love their various small breads and cake rolls! They are really moist, delicious, and not too sweet. The small breads vary in price from $2 to $3 and are always "buy 5 get 1 free" (you can mix and match, and you get the cheapest bread on your tray for free). The cake rolls are $13-16, but various flavors go on sale fairly often. The bakery lady is always really nice and friendly on the multiple occasions we have been there. read more

This bakery inside the 99 Ranch Super Market is a "hidden" gem! I used to go to the surrounding bakeries in the plaza for cakes but I no longer ventured outside after I discovered it. They have a variety of baked goods, from croissants to log cakes to fruity birthday cakes! I've bought some pre-made birthday cakes here and I have never been disappointed. They are moist and fresh, not too sweet (which is something I prefer). The prices for the cakes are decent. The one I bought today is a circular 8 inch "macaroon fruity cake" at $25.00. Besides the birthday cakes, I also have had their mini "yellow" cheese cakes and I love them! They are fluffy and again not too sweet. Now let's talk about customer service. Linda was the baker who helped me today. Her friendly and helpful nature put me at ease! She helped me pick out a cake for my mom and offered to write "happy birthday" on a separate white chocolate sign for me to place it on the cake. She also asked if I needed paper plates. Really nice bakery chain inside 99 Ranch Market. They are constantly bringing out fresh items, load up a tray and they box it up for you at the register. Selection is great, I have yet to try something I didn't enjoy. I love both their sweet and savory pastries, all of them priced right at under $2 a piece. Now it has a spiffy makeover and dubbed Bread Farm. It's a farm... full of bread. Sounds a lot better than Yeast Farm, doesn't it? There's bread, pastries, and cakes everywhere. And they're all so gigantic. Decent selection of bread. I only tried the green onion one and I thought it was fine -- maybe a bit on the dry and stale side from sitting out (versus churning them out fresh like 85C). I will slowly but surely try a few breads at a time when I'm craving carbs... which isn't that often. In the meantime, I'll wait for Meat Farm to open somewhere. read more

One would deal with salaried employees who are not well managed by owner. Profit is not her core concern, and hence customer's needs are not neither. And they appear to be under staffed. It was supposed to be open till 9pm but we were unable to find anyone when we arrived by 8:40pm. I got it for my sister and she would rate the cake a 4/5 and the filling a 3.5/5. The cake was just the right amount of sweetness. It was worth the $1 The 2 in 1 tea was a big no no for me. Like the people who made the tea need to taste test it first like it was really gross :'( It was green tea and milk tea but the milk tea had no flavor and the green tea was so overpowering. It had this slight bitter aftertaste. I didn't finish the drink and it was not worth my $1!! I would give this drink a 0/5. I just discovered the renovated/renamed/reowned "bakery section of 99 ranch" called Bread Farm which I hope does very well. You get the idea of what it's like based on the other reviews, but what I will say that I do like the selection better here than I do at 85 degrees. A lot of it has to do with the fact that I prefer savory breads and there is only so much cream cheese filled Rose Bao that I can eat from 85 degrees, or other similar counterparts or permutations of those ingredients. Bread Farm has an awesome pork sung and green onion muffin. MUFFIN! It's a glorious combination of all things yummy and wonderful and also satiates the part of me that does like sweets. I usually don't like salty and sweet together but it works out well since the muffin isn't too sweet but moist and soft. I ate the top off with the pork sung first and then worked my way through the muffin. The other thing I love is anything with cheese and jalapeno - and they've remastered the traditional hotdog bun by putting jalapeno on it. Simple but genious. Also they make a taro and cheese bun that looks better than it sounds and tastes better than it sounds (cheese on top, taro filling on inside). Cheese with any type of starch = win. Lastly the boro bao (pineapple bun) is in a muffin shape, but still glorious, light and fluffy. It's a highbrow version of boro bao that I like a lot mostly because I always found boro bao kinda rough and dry in it's most natural form. I enjoy this version of boro bao lot better. Overall I am a fan of the bread selection and quality, also a fan that there aren't out the door lines, and fan that they have more savory options. I would have given it 5 stars but the individual plastic bags the bread is put into are too horizontal, so the bread falls out of its individual bag very easily. It was irritating to have to collect the bread and put it back into its baggy. For sanitary reasons I would make a special plea that they reformat their bag dimensions and use a stiffer plastic that will hold its own shape so that the bread stays put in the bag to keep it from falling out. That is my one huge huge plea that I ask they change! otherwise i highly recommend! read more

We got a cake here for my birthday and it was genuinely terrible. We really aren't picky people but this cake had an awful texture and zero sweet taste. The cake felt rubbery when we tried to chew it. Not a single person in our family of 5 took more than one bite. We are a small business owning family and strongly believe in going to a business to have them right a wrong instead of leaving bad reviews, but when my father took the cake back (yes the full cake including the unfinished cut pieces) he was met with a very rude and argumentative staff and manager. They didn't refund, offer store credit, or even send him home with a new cake. So not only do they have awful cakes, they have awful service. read more

It's really hard to make a bad dry pork bun. The place does not disappoint. The dry pork buns are tasty, as they should be. Selection is good, not great (compared to JJ or 85 degrees), but I had no troubles with the bakery. Customer service was super nice. They said thank you when I didn't want them to waste time putting individual buns in plastic bags and reminded me to not forget about my drink order. When I was there last week, they had a buy one pastry get one drink order for $1 (orig $2 includes milk tea, green tea, etc). I got the green tea which tasted good. I'll definitely be back again whenever I need to stop by 99 ranch. read more

This morning i was rushing to JJ Bakery to get some morning bread for breakfast and all of the sudden i remember my sis told me about how 99 Ranch Market has this new bakery in there and it was pretty good so i went in and hoping to get some bombass breakfast. As i walk into the Bread Farm area, i see they ave similar box for bread same as the one you would see from 85 degree. (the one that you have to open it up and get th bread). Anyways.. i went in there, all the bread boxed on the left side of the wall were empty... nada!!! There were only couple choices this morning (like not more then 6 different bread)... very dissapointed i thought they would have wide variety of bread in the morning (ppl get bread for their breakfast!! DUHHH) After looking through their LIMITED SELECTION.... i got the bacon and mushroom bread. It look a bit more appitzing than the other one. The bread was the same price range as the 85 degree bread. Went to work, sat down and as soon as i start eating it... i noticed that it was super oily... omggg like reallllly oily... i didnt not expect this much oil from this bread. I think the oil is from the bacon but i had plenty of other kind of bread with bacon and they were ok to no oil... I ate it.. it was not bad. Te bread was a bit crispy from the cheese and they gave you fair amount of bacon and mushroom on top so not bad.... except the oil. i don't like too much oil on my bread. I haven't tried their other bread tho so this review can only count towards the bread i bought. Will go back and try their other type of bread or cake. I kinda don't get all the lower rated reviews. I've been here about 5 times and the pastries have been delicious. Best of all they cost something like $1.75 each. My kids favorite is the cheese bread. I've had the bacon mushroom pastry, the Mexican blueberry, and a few others. Give it a shot next time u shop at 99 ranch. We bought a pink lady fruit cake for my dad bday. $20.00 for an 8 inch round, which I consider an average price for a cake. pretty neat and clean for chinese bakery.. the inside is quite spacious and not as small as jjbakery. the selections are pretty similar to 85 and jj. the price are comparable too (around $1/25 - $2 each). ive tried few of their breads, including cream bread, paprika hod-dog, custard, butter cream, and cheese taro. the bread texture is a bit dry and not as soft as 85. the custard is my favorite. its better than jj with creamier texture. the taro would be my favorite if only they didnt put the cheese on top. the combination of cheese and taro is just weird. i know they are trying to differentiate their products, but they should do so more wisely. my least favorite is the paprika hot-dog. they put a tiny hotdog inside and the rest is just plain bread. i also didnt like the cream bread. they should put the cream bread in the box instead of plastic. the bread was a mess by the time i got home. the cream was everywhere and its became very messy!! service is a bit slow coz they just opened i guess. i hope to see a better service next time. they accept CC, including amex too. read more
