Very interesting place for sure! I recently went here before and after a Blue Jackets game. Definitely a dive bar with cheap drink options! Mainly beer and some mixed drinks, but it was $2 beer when I went. We went on a Thursday and let me give you a heads up now that Thursdays are "Thong Thursdays." The bartender did not have any pants on and was wearing a thong. The places was crowded. There are decently clean bathrooms. There is also a pool table which costs either $0.50 or $1.00. They have touch tunes, but it wasn't operating that night. There are also TVs around the bar for sports games. Will probably come back! read more

It's a Dive Bar - so go with that expectation and you will love it. Great stop before or after Clippers/Jackets games. Honestly it is a dive (open when she wants to be open) but friendly and everyone in there is chill. Think of this.... they have Thong Thursdays and no draft beer (only cans)! PBR $2 cans daily are the hit. They have a fully stocked bar and mini wine bottles too. Bartenders are funny and non stop. They aren't NY/SFO bartenders but just ladies working hard to get people a drink. If you expect 5 star table service = wrong place. If you expect spotless surroundings and modern decor =wrong place. If you want a chill place to grab a drink, laugh, talk to random strangers, and not pay $15 per drink = this is the best place around. If you want white table clothes, drink wine with your pinky out, and expect someone to wait on you hand and foot = go elsewhere. We stopped in Thursday and luckily my wife noticed the sign about TT, otherwise she may have thought differently about the place. She loved the chill environment too. Thanks Ladies! Have been to this place many times before games in the area. I totally get that it's prime location for events in the area so best of luck to them in the future but I'll never come back. Today before the Crew game I had a bartender ask me if I was paying cash or card. I said card and she gave me a dirty look, walked away and asked if anyone else was paying cash. Had a friend at the other side of the bar pay in card and was able to get served. My money wasn't good enough and I'm obliviously replaceable so I'll just take my "cash" elsewhere in the arena district from now on. I'll gladly play $10 for a beer at the stadium before begging this business to accept my card for a $5 drink. Or even spend my money at a corporate run restaurant on Nationwide BLVD down the street. read more

First thing. Yelp reports this bar as closed. It is not. It is alive and well. There was a bar with a similar name a mile or two up the road that closed. Bettys is the best bar in Columbus. It is a classic dive bar with a great cheese burger and cold beer. They are always open for Clippers and Blue Jackets games, and they are always open on Thursdays for their Thong Thursday bartending night. Other than that their hours are a bit iffy. They have a sign on the door that says, "Hours: Open when I get here, closed when I leave." And they live by this mantra. This is a great spot to go and have beers before and after a game. I haven't written a gushing review for quite a while. Well, I'm gushing. Folks say in their reviews that this is a "dive" bar, like that's some kind of pox. It's not a pox, and this is not a dive bar, in my dictionary of bar adjectives. It's more like a friendly neighborhood bar... in this case, without a neighborhood. One of the first clues is the hours of operation: "From when Betty gets there until Betty leaves." Another neon flashing clue is the general tidiness & high level of maintenance. Tack on the respectable and friendly customers, and you have a triple play of neighborhoodiness. Transplant this place to Olde Town East or Harrison West and it would be a nouveau chic darling. Where it's at, next to the B&O railroad track that starkly divides the Arena District from the Mad Max-like wasteland east of the Olentangy, it has no built-in constituency. We need to change that. The good: Maybe the best non-formula hamburger in town. Sorry, Johnnie's. Cheap, cold beer in bottles & cans. No blaring, beatpop-infested muzak shooting out of cheap indoor-outdoor speakers pointed directly at my head. A covered deck with a direct view of big downtown buildings. Quaint, clean, homey restrooms. A couple of booths with honest-to-god small incandescent table lamps adorned with red lampshades. And, a dim ambiance reminiscent of Paris at its Lost Generation heydey. Ooh la la, c'est vrai, Madame Stein! The not-so-good: Step-ups and step-downs at both the doors, and between patio sections, that could result in skinned knees or broken phones, especially after a few of those inexpensive beers. Robocop security and escort limos prowling about. So, bookmark Betty's and check it out the next time you're near Huntington Park. It's a refreshing break from the Park Street chaos. If you are looking for frills or really even air conditioning and good lighting this is not your place, but if you are looking for a good hole in the wall in Columbus, Ohio then look no further. Betty's Bar is your place. It is hidden behind Huntington Park. You can assume if there is a home Clippers game then Betty's is open. You never know, but we always simply bike by and check. If the front door is open then they are open. They do have two TV's working again. They went without for a while due to cable forcing them to go digital, but we just stopped in yesterday and we can confirm both TV's are operational. They have $2 PBR cans. And their beer is the coldest in town. And service, let me tell you what, you do not wait for a beer. The bartenders are quick to quench your thirst. They have really good burgers and other bar items such as fries. It is a small kitchen but it does its job to fight off a late night hunger. Please don't tell any unfriendly people about Betty's, it is Columbus' well kept secret. It is full of hard working friendly Columbus people. And on any given night after a Clippers game you'll see lots of staff winding down. read more

I have never had this bad bar service on a non crowded day. Diving in here out of the rain and to kill some time before my Friday night concert, my friends and I thought it looked like a decent enough spot. Boy were we wrong. Betty's is a dive bar. I'm used to those -- run down demeanor, beside the parking lot so they must get enough baseball and concert traffic to justify their $7 prices. [really - I had 4 and 2 shots and found myself sober in an hour at the concert, something isn't right here] The bartender could not bartend to save her life. Between long waits for her unending smoking addiction that made her dash in and out of the porch area, the unending slowness of service [how are we 4 people deep in a bar full of 15 people], forgetting orders, serving the wrong things, forgetting that she had put the beer can behind the bar and didn't actually serve it to us, we were routinely given blank stares that made me wonder WHAT she was smoking out there on the porch. She also put in the incorrect food order that needed to be redone for my friend who was lactose intolerant and had specifically ordered all cheese taken off. Plus, I swear I should have stuck with beer, there was no alcohol in those mixed drinks. And they cost $7?!? AWFUL. Do not come here, despite it's convenience to our parking spots. read more

I recently read about this place in one of the local free papers. I have no idea how I didn't know about it before. Actually, I do recall seeing a makeshift sign once on Spring street. It was simply a piece of unpainted wood on a stick with "BAR" and an arrow in black spray paint. I saw it while riding my bike, and forgot to go back and investigate. I assume it was for this place, and it could not be more fitting. This is a bar. It is listed under dive bars, and it is exactly that. Prices are reasonable, and everyone was friendly. The owner, Shorty, is really nice, and they have one of the best burgers in town for $5.50. The bartender, Rachel, was great too. As I understand it, the only day they have regular hours is Thong Thursday. Otherwise they only open when there are events nearby at Huntington Park or The LC. I tried to go here last Saturday, but they were closed, so I went back on Thong Thursday. In short, it's a nice, friendly, inexpensive place, and I hope to return soon. They have a sign at the doors that says something like, "we're open when we feel like it," which is funny and cute until you realize they're serious. We visited there on a Sunday afternoon (during hours when Google said they're supposed to be open) only to find all the doors locked and no sign of life. Too bad, because we came out to see it based on a word-of-mouth recommendation who knows we like dive bars, but we probably won't be back since the opening hours aren't reliable which resulted in a wasted Uber ride. Maybe that's what they're going for, but folks find that kind of discrepancy confusing and unnecessary. It's not far from the Arena District and Short North which both have a lot of unique watering holes with posted opening hours, and that's where we ended up. read more

We love this place for before a game , event, etc. They have fair fries and canned beers, no taps. It has a 'country' feel (country music and wooden plank wallpaper in the bathroom). If you want a 'hot spot' bar in the Arena District, go somewhere else. read more
