I've driven by this little dive bar numerous times and I'll be honest, I've never even noticed it. Not even for a hot second. While it may be right off 5th avenue, it doesn't necessarily stand out. However, a few friends of mine pointed it out to me and insisted that we go for karaoke night. I thought sure, why not? When I walked in I was surprised at how spacious it was. I was even more surprised by how many people were packed in there. This place was poppin! I got a cider at the bar, which was on par with how much I normally pay for it, and I took a front row seat so I could watch my friends take the stage. The folks organizing the karaoke were obviously professionals. It all went very smoothly. Bravo! While I was there for roughly two hours, I never really made contact with the staff except when I got my one drink. Therefore, I can't really speak to how they are customer service wise. I can say that the restrooms were literally falling a part. This is somewhat expected in a dive bar but there was line for the ladies room because only 1 of the doors would close to the stalls inside. This is the every day pain of a woman going to a bar and needing to pee. Sigh* Anyways, I wouldn't be surprised if I end up here again in the future. A group of girls and I wanted to Karaoke after a very crappy two weeks... and we end up at Mickey's. This is the definition of a dive bar... maybe something you need to grow to love. The particular evening there was an eclectic group of individuals - frat boys, skeevies, and cougars. The evening was filled with groups of people who appeared to be regulars - so get in line quick if you'd like to sing. Absolutely awful. What is so poor about this place is the DJ with the mustache. It is unreal how a service industry business could have such terrible customer service. The bartenders were amazing. Really take care of you but be ready for beer prices to increase every order. What really grinded our gears was the DJ. The rudeness to my wife when asked about singing a song was unbelievable. The during the night our song got bumped due to use "abusing" the system. And the mustache DJ said that I have sang two songs to many when other people have sang the same amount. Always a long line for the DJ and then they make up excuses about calling your name when it never happened. Also the bartenders make up a price and are usually drunk themselves. Would be a shame if this place had a deeper dive into it because it's cash only and has some really sketchy stuff happening. Unless you're friends with the DJ, don't expect to ever be able to sing. But you can get cheap beers and it is fun place to hangout because of the karaoke - always brings out some characters, and surprisingly, some real talent. I've heard more than a few song birds here. I'm not a huge fan of this place. I've been here three times now and I don't enjoy waiting hours to sing a song. I'll put in a song before anyone else and I'll sing within the hour, but then I'll have to wait a few hours to sing a second song. On the other hand, the beer is cheap and the crowd is lively. There is more karaoke is my life than I'd like to admit - and recently, more drunkenly singing karaoke than I'd like to admit. This comes, of course, from visiting my friend, karaoke debonaire, Mr. Adrian X., at his various gigs during the week - one of which is at Mickey's. I am a big fan of dive bars, and as far as Mickey's goes... I find it to be a-okay. Yes, there are some fantastic middle aged people here with amazing 90s hair and matching NFL team sweatshirts. Yes, most people in this bar sound like they've smoked a pack a day for 30 years and exclusively drink Natty Ice. Yes, Mickey's is cash only. But unlike my favourite dives (O'Reilly's, Johnny's Tavern, etc), I don't get much of a sense of community from this place. Everyone seems to just be... well, either annihilated from beer, or annihilated from life in general (please see my review of Brewstirs Clintonville Tavern for an elaboration of this condition), or just sort of randomly at Mickey's to see Adrian/sing karaoke. A good dive, in my opinion, needs a Cheers-esque sense of community. There's gotta be a Cliff and a Norm, you get my drift?! I've never seen this at Mickey's on the numerous occasions I've been here. It's ok. We had a legitimate complaint but the bartender wouldn't hear me out. She took it personally (had nothing to do with her) and told me that my ass could leave. She had so much to say that she never heard me out. She was a short, plump, plain brunette and believe me, my ass was leaving, I just thought the staff would want to know why ten potential regulars wouldn't be back. I feel that the male bartender wouldn't have had as much of an ego party. Who knows. I do know it's a dive bar (I love dive bars) and you can't expect much, but since ten of us were leaving to never return I thought someone would want to know why. I was wrong. Mickey's is awesome and a great go-to spot for Karaoke Thursday-Sunday. It can get pretty crowded, so get there early, snag a table and get your name on the list if you want to sing. You will see a great mix of quality singers and the usual, more casual drunk karaokers. Don't be intimidated, just go ahead and sing as the crowd is very appreciative (aka intoxicated). Drinks are cheap, which is nice. But it's cash only, so be sure that you have some. The only other ding on the place is that it's quite divey and definitely the men's bathroom is small and super gross. Mickey's is renowned for being Columbus' "best karaoke bar" and I have to respectfully disagree. Well, to clarify: if you enjoy watching karaoke, then yes, it's the best. Mickey's karaoke draws a HUGE crowd and they certainly have karaoke on more nights of the week than any other bar. But, if you are a karaoke singing enthusiast, then I would advise you to find a more intimate spot. Once you sing your first number, it's typical to wait an hour or more before you get to sing again. Other than that: it's your quintessential dive bar. Put simply, this is what a karaoke bar should be. Karaoke nights are definitely the highlight. If you're looking for some down and dirty fun, go immediately. Very neighborhood-y with a slight truck-stop feel. I LOVE it! The parking is okay, the service is good and the bathrooms aren't too bad. This place is the definition of a dive bar...it's small, smells of stale cigarette smoke, has chairs that are falling apart, and the floor looks like it hasn't been washed in years. And let's not even talk about the restrooms... That being said though, Mickey's is an absolute blast! We were there on a Saturday night for Karaoke (which they do all weekend.) I'm glad we got there early to grab a couple of tables...by 10:00 it was standing room only. The service, surprisingly, was pretty good. Three bartenders were hustling to serve everyone. Mickey's is a pretty eclectic bar that looks a bit out of place in a town like Grandview. It has a dive-bar atmosphere; and for some reason, they only accept cash as payment...(let me repeat)...They do not accept Credit/debit cards as payment! This is a bar after-all and I don't know too many people that carry cash anymore; which is a bit of an inconvenience. They are well-known for their Karaoke and the playlist fills up fast. So if you are the next aspiring American Idol, get their early! I think there will always be a warm place in my heart for Mickey's. My skepticism was put to rest when we walked in and a man in a sleeveless Harley Davidson shirt was singing "Empire State of Mind" by Jay-Z. There was an eclectic group of people inside the bar: Frat guys and sorority girls, bikers, hipsters...and everyone was having a great time mingling. Drinks were cheap, karaoke was hilarious, and the staff was friendly. If I have one criticism, it's that the bar only takes cash. I can speculate that this would be a pretty low-key dive bar on a regular night, but during karaoke it's super crowded. It's cash only, but the drinks are cheap. Only bottles and well drinks, no drafts. Karaoke lists fill up quickly, so you'll be lucky to get a song in before midnight if you get here after 10:30 pm. The bathrooms are disgusting. The people coming to karaoke can be a bit douchey. But, the later it gets, the more it becomes a giant sing-along. Best legit karaoke in Columbus, hands down! Every Wednesday-Sunday starting at 8 pm. Obviously, if u want to sing, there's a list. Get your name on the list early if you expect to get to your number. Have a song in mind, cause man they have an excellent repertoire of songs to pick from. A hujazz selection from the 50s all the way to, well, there were a few rather current songs belted out. This is a bar-only establishment, so eat before you come, cause you'll work it off dancing and belting out all night. Pretty much a no-frills establishment, when it comes to ambiance and decor. Nothing "shaaabow-able", just good vibes all around! Can't wait to get back and sing some Neal Young, perhaps Steppenwolf, or ELO... I have been a friend and patron since before i could walk...my family and friends have been coming to mickeys since it opened....some including my family have worked there through its tenured history and have had nothing but great stories and amazing tales to tell about this bar...however in recent years i have tried to come in for karaoke or to enjoy a beverage but the terrible service and disrespect for people that are not "regulars" is beyond anything i can comprehend. Tonight with a friend we came to mickeys to sing and have some fun...stupidity I decided that i would embarrass myself and partake. My friend ordered us 2 beers and sat them where we had been sitting for the last hour or more. When i finished the song i went to get my beer and the buffoon that had sat in our place told me to "f" off and called me a "bitch"...i tried being cool and just asked for my beer and he told me to "get the "f"away from him" and that he wasnt interested...the only thing i wanted was my beer not him!!! In the meantime the bartender came up and told me to leave! WHAT THE HELL DID I DO?!?!? I just asked for my beer and this moron made it out like i had stole his hot dog, killed his donkey or smacked his unwanted fat ass and then wanted to debate his manhood... sorry I dont want you just the beer i had paid for that was just sitting in front of you....after calling me a bitch and before i could ask for another beer to avoid any conflict i was asked to leave because..."i was causing a problem." Really!?!?!? I paid for the beer, sang a song then went to get said paid for beer and was called a bitch when for asking for it....then told to leave!!! I left then went back to talk to one of the bartenders (the woman) because i was upset...i told her that i knew the owner and that i had had done wrong and was sorry for any ill situation with the guys across the bar...when the male batender came and interpreted the conversation and said "i dont care who you are or who you know! When mickey isnt here i am god! You need to leave!" Are you kidding me!!!??? This is one of MANY situations that have happened here over the last few years! Mickey! Great Friday/Saturday night karaoke spot with a wide array of patrons who all come together to have a good time. Great diversity of singing funseekers--I saw a sorority princess sing Nicki Minaj, followed by an Asian guy who spoke little English sing She Bangs even worse (but with even more enthusiasm!) than William Hung. I admit that I had to video it and put it on YouTube. The beer list is mostly low-end domestic macrobrew, but it's cheap and cold. Definitely a fun place to bring friends (just don't go poop--I had to one night, much to my chagrin, and the stall wall had been ripped down, so everyone who walked into the men's room had the misfortune of seeing me sitting on the crapper). We had a horrible experience here, and won't be returning. Here's what happened: A group of theatre friends and I went on a Saturday night to do Karaoke. We had heard that the karaoke (run by an outside company) has a large selection, including a lot of musical theatre songs, which is true. We arrived around 9:30, and each of the six of us ordered a drink. (There is a sign on the wall that says 2 drink minimum for karaoke, which I'll come back to later.) Anyway, thing were going well and we were getting to sing mixed in with everyone else and having a good time. Somewhere during this time at least half of us ordered our second drink. Then the 2013 Grandview Parent Crawl came in, around 10/10:30. They were singing and drinking too, and we all seemed to be having a fun time. That is, until my group started noticing that our names were disappearing from the karaoke list. One member of my group went up and asked the karaoke person what was going on, and she directed my friend to the bartender. The bartender then proceeded to claim that we weren't drinking enough, and therefore he asked our names to be removed. Even though we had been drinking, we had no way to prove it because Mickey's is a cash bar (apparently the glasses sitting all over table we'd been sitting at all evening weren't enough proof). We all felt something else was going on, so my friend went back to the karaoke person who informed us she was asked not to play anymore musical theatre because it was "driving away other customers". Really? They were all singing along. And if you're not going to play it, why have it available in your book? We left shortly after, around 11pm. We were very frustrated, because we felt that Mickeys was making poor decisions. Its in a convenient location for us, and we had talked beforehand about making karaoke a weekly event for our group. They lost potential regulars in order to cater to an event that only happens once a year. Its also quite divey/ and the bathrooms were gross. Maybe would have been easier to overlook those things the rest of our experience hadn't been so bad. read more
