Hmm. My feelings about Ruby have evolved over the years. In college I came here often for live music because I had a friend who worked the door. Since that was 10+ years ago, obviously lots of things have changed. I do love the wooden interior. It has more of a classic tavern feel than most of the newer/more cheaply-built bars in the campus area. It has high ceilings and two main rooms, the one you walk into with the bar, and another to the right with a small stage and dance floor/high top tables. The first room has 2 pool tables, which is why I have visited more recently when some of my other go-to pool spots are too busy. Drinks are on the cheap side, with most of your basic options but this is not a spot to expect a specialty cocktail or a super wide variety of spirits. It's not a bad spot for pitchers of beer or your basic shots and mixed drinks. I would definitely rate Ruby higher because I've had great experiences there, but the service lately has been hit or miss. The last time the bartenders refused to change the music to a different channel, insisting on playing country and encouraging us to buy each song we wanted via touch tunes. On this same visit, the staff seemed super unfriendly serving drinks, and another staff member was mopping the floor while customers were still ordering drinks at around 10:30 on a Friday night. I understand that this place tends to close when customers are gone toward the end of the night, but it seemed like the staff really didnt want anyone to be there. I wouldn't think ownership would want staff to be pushing paying customers out on one of the busiest nights for bars. I'm sure I'll be back at some point, but if I go in to check if there's a pool table open and notice any of those same staff members from the last time, I might just head home. read more

For starters, this is not your family style restaurant. Look closely at the details here on Yelp people. You don't want to arrive hungry and completely confused. Instead, this is a badass dive bar not far from campus. They have live music often, cheap drinks, friendly bartenders, a couple pool tables, a small patio, and a handful of televisions. When I arrived, I immediately felt like I was in my happy place. I mean c'mon, a round of top shelf tequila shots for four people was only about $22. Rejoice, rejoice! I'm sad it took me so long to visit but I know I'll be back. This is definitely a hidden gem for those that appreciate a good divey spot. read more

Ruby Tuesday is one of the coolest bars in Columbus. It's not the fucking chain of course. This is actually a hipster bar and music venue. It's not real big and it gets crowded. This is still pretty cool to see show. I like getting cheap drinks when there's not a show happening. It has pretty good specials. The draft list includes some okay local choices along with the usual. It's however mostly known as a place for music. This should be visited by any music fan at least once. It's not always the best acts but it's better than being in an arena far away from the action. The worst thing is the cover for which there is often. If you like local music go to Ruby Tuesday. It's fun making people think it's the shitty ass chain. They get quite a surprise when they get there. read more

This place gets 5 stars. One reason and one reason only I am giving this place 5 stars. THE HUDSON STREET HOOLIGANS. They have single handedly made this place cool again. For those of you that have no idea who the Hudson Street Hooligans are, they are one of the unofficial fan clubs of the Columbus Crew. If you do not know who the Crew are and you live in Columbus, just do yourself a favor and kill yourself, now. No, seriously, the Hooligans not only make this bar fun but they make all of Crew Stadium fun when the Crew play at home. Rowdy as shit and as drunk as drunk is allowed in public, the Hooligans take over Ruby Tuesdays when the Crew are playing at home. For those of you that are unfamiliar with exactly how soccer fans are supposed to behave when rooting on their team, please go see a game in Crew Stadium. Those drunken monkeys in the NE corner of the stadium wearing the matching jerseys are the Hooligans. They chant things like "you suck ass hole!" when the opposing goalkeeper is running up to take a goal kick and chant God-Only-Knows-What when the other team scores. Take whatever they do and multiply it by 10. That is what 'football' is supposed to be. The bar itself is fine. I have seen a few live shows there and since I lived a block away for two years I would occasionally find myself in there for random shit from time to time. Just go see the Hooligans. Go online and buy tickets for a Crew game and go to Ruby Tuesdays an hour or two before game time. At about 30 minutes till kick off they are all gonna leave and walk to the Crew Stadium together, chanting and singing the whole way. But if you think soccer doesn't really exist in America, do yourself a favor and search out the Hooligans at Ruby Tuesdays. read more

Cheap PBR. An above average PA system. An endearingly bitter bar staff. A basement that conjures up thoughts of "Silence of the Lambs." For my money (which there is not a lot of), it doesn't get much better than Ruby Tuesday. Perhaps one of the most criminally overlooked bars in the campus area, Ruby Tuesday is a charmingly disheveled neighborhood dive bar that's got everything you need and nothing you don't. There are no cornhole boards, no jumbo pitchers of electric-blue vodka-infused sugar water, no "country nights" that attract droves of Jeep-driving frat guys. Ruby Tuesday's setup is rather spartan- there's two pool tables, a stage, a bar, a porch, and the worst bathrooms you'll ever set foot in. And that's it. And that's how I like it. The great virtue of this place it's location, right in the heart of a neighborhood that's predominately populated by slackers (such as myself, at one point in time) that missed the boat on prime-location housing closer to campus and settled for one of the many duplexes that line the sketchier parts of the east residential area that Ruby Tuesday calls home. Ruby's is far enough from High St. to be insulated from the crowd that call bars like Too's and Four Keg's home, but close enough that it's still worth the hike. It's not unlikely for 2 out of 3 people in the bar to be stoned at any given time, and with a jukebox chocked full of bands like Ween, Phish, The Dead, and (of course) The Stones, it's hard to blame them. Like any campus bar, the live music rotation here can be hit or miss, the exception being a Wednesday night residency with The Floorwalkers, a local soul/funk act that's been picking up steam over the past year or so. What sets Ruby's apart from quite a few other local bars is it's sound system. For a bar that has a curious aroma of wood varnish and pee, the PA system here does a great deal of justice to just about any act that sets foot on the stage. If cheap drinks and a laid-back atmosphere that doesn't feel manufactured (just check out the basement, for crying out loud) is what you're in the market for, this place simply cannot be beat. If you've mistakenly stumbled upon Ruby's in search of a salad bar or a surf and turf special, however, you're in for a pleasant surprise. read more

About-face: "A reversal of attitude, behavior, or point of view." You know, like when you try so hard to hate something that you realize you've actually fallen in love with it. My relationship with Ruby's is much like that. I used to live about a block away from Ruby Tuesday. It's a pseudo dive with colorful patrons, cheap drinks, and live music (and nothing at all to do with the terrible chain restaurant of the same name). I must have begrudgingly gone with my roommates a hundred times when I lived right by it, forever whining about the trivial cover charge, the doormen who eyed my ID a moment too long, or the deafeningly loud amateur music we always seemed to catch on the nights we'd hoped to chill. After moving away from that part of campus, I'd occasionally end up there to meet a friend, support a local band, or just grab a quick drink after work. Then one night I found myself longing for a cheap pitcher on their patio without any outside influence pulling me there but my own will, and I realized my days of anti-Rubyism were long gone. I wish you could hear the soothing jazz sounds making their way into my bedroom right now. It'd be enough motivation to head across the street and check out Ruby's any day of the week. It reminds me of one of my favorite places on Earth, New Orleans. I have the privilege of living across the street from this gnarly bar, and it's quickly becoming my favorite. I can transcend back to Frenchman St. and the quality music blasting at all hours of the night. Don't let the cover deter you, it just keeps the douchebags out. If you love music, love hanging out, and love beer....check out Ruby's- it won't disappoint. Is Ruby's a dive? To pick up on Lisa's musings over the status of Ruby Tuesday, the soccer/music bar with the unfortunate name that just happens to be the same as a disgusting chain restaurant, I'm going to say that while I also vote no, there are many dive elements going on here... but not the awesome ones. *wrinkles nose* My main reason for believing RT is not a dive is that it's too big. Dive bars are usually small and smelly, but Ruby's somehow manages to large and smelly. I don't think I've ever had an awesome time here in terms of atmosphere, and when I was at Ruby's last night, I opted to stay on the patio with my friend instead of going inside because, well, it smelled weird and there was a really boring band playing and nooooo enthusiasm abounded (and I require enthusiasm, dammit!). The aethetics and atmosphere do nothing for me here, and the Hudson Street Hooligans do even less (love them at soccer games, not so much clashing with rock-type-people at shows which inevitably ends in face and/or wall punching). Good for the Hooligans for getting their own spot down the street... but even so, Ruby's still pretty much lacks. It's one of those places that is made better by good company, but then again good company could be made more fun by defecting to somewhere more interesting or... I was going to say nice, but I'd just pick a dive anyway, since I kinda love 'em. So somewhere more interesting. Oh and the bartenders are just okay. One asked me if I wanted a "single" when I ordered a LaBatts - I had no idea what he was talking about, and probably sounded like an underage idiot, but when I asked him "what?" he said, "a single, or a pitcher?" Isn't the terminology a "draught" or a "pint," not a "single" (a "single" is a shot?)? I don't know, I was confused. It was lame. But beer was cheap, so that was nice. ($1.50 for a pint of LaBatts, that's cool...). I usually only go to Ruby's when the boy is playing, and that's fine. I definitely plan on going to Kyle Seigrist's Lost Weekend Show here Sept 18-19 - that's a don't-miss event, though I wish it would at least be at Bourbon Street or something (which truly is a dive). My friends and I were arguing about whether or not Ruby's should be considered a dive or not. This was prompted by the yearly "Best in Columbus" poll that The Other Paper runs. I vote no. One, I feel that it's too big to be a dive. 2 rooms divided by half a wall is the basic layout of the establishment. In one room there's a small stage set up for small concerts with local bands. The other room is where the bar is located, as well as a pool table. Two, the place looks too nice to be a dive. The floors are made of a fantastic cabin inspired wood, and the patio is really nice, with a covered awning. There's a black iron gate surrounding the property and plenty of shrubbery provides a small shield from the street. A classic looking stained class sign reads "Ruby Tuesday" lets you know you're at the right place. Three, the atmosphere is really relaxed. It's not overly loud and clubby, it's more a neighborhood bar that substitutes as a music venue. I don't feel that you have to belong to a certain scene to hang out there. I guess why some people would consider it a dive is because of the really cheap drink prices. Like, seriously cheap pitchers of beer, and special cocktails during Happy Hour. But I don't think that should label a place as a dive. More like a blessing. So as you can read, Ruby Tuesday is absolutely not a dive bar. Except the bathrooms are horrendous. Full disclosure: a good friend of mine plays in a band here on a weekly basis, and honestly, any quality jazz music, as long as the band actually tries, I'm in heaven, and I don't notice anything but an overwhelming feeling of euphoria that soothes my raw mid-week nerves. I don't know about the terminology of this place, is it a dive, is it not a dive, what is proper, what is not proper. Leave these to the colonialists, I say! I am but a mere native. Of Columbus. For a short time. Tis all. On that note, I have to say that I really like the atmosphere here. It just seems so cozy and fulfilling. The same musty old doorman greets me every time, I wonder how they maintain the flat screen TV outside the place, and everything is cheap. Except the cover, but I can pay for jazz. I have spent a fair amount of time at Ruby Tuesday. As a person in a band in Columbus I feel like it is a rite of passage- before you play pretty much anywhere you have to play Rubys. Not to say that it will be a good experience, many rites aren't... Frankly, it is easy to get to play Ruby Tuesday- because few people WANT to play there. The sound is expensive and electrocutes you, there is no place to park, beer selection is as expected for a campus dive, the bathroom is really gross, the staff is not the nicest bunch, the bar only takes cash (although, looking at other reviews this may have changed- hopefully) and it is hard to drag people there to see you play (see above.) I am normally not so harsh, and while I have some fond memories from the place it was certainly not the place I am fond of. There are too many fabulous music venues in town to continue visiting this one. read more

Not a bad bar but honestly not my cup of tea. Cheap drinks and good service but diiiir-tay and hands down one of the scariest bathrooms in Columbus (or atleast a close second to Char Bar). I have seen a few really shady things go on there that left a bad taste in my mouth but never fear.... the beer didn't. So if you're in the market for a good, cheap beer and live in the area, this might be 'your' cup of tea. :) read more

Despite sharing a name with a mediocre chain this is one of the absolutely best bars in town. If I were ever to leave Columbus this is one of those places I would always want to come back for. It's simply wonderful- live music, a patio, and a great bar to boot. The crowd at Ruby Tuesday's is by necessity fluid; it matches the music being played that night, like any live venue. Whenever I've gone, though, the crowd has always been positive force: supportive of the talent, happy, and very drunk in the best possible way. It's the antithesis to the bar scene directly on campus that I would have a hard time going to if my throat was on fire. Ruby Tuesday's has great prices on great beers, wonderful bar service, and a great line-up of rock acts from around town and from places even more exotic, like other states. There is a cover at Ruby Tuesday's, so you might want to make sure whoever is playing isn't completely offensive to your musical pallet; on the other hand the cover is usually pretty low, which means you can take a chance on a band you've never heard of. There's not many better venues of this size in town. Go on a nice night- the patio is a great place to sip a beer and catch a breath or catch up with friends between acts (or during less impressive sets). read more

I love this place if for no other reason than hosting The Floorwalkers every Wednesday for a 3 year stretch. This place is a great music venue because it is a dive bar at heart. A great staff serves up decently priced beverages for the masses. A couple pool tables, which are completely useless once the place fills up, change up the routine when needed. The grungy bathrooms are in the basement along with a whole section of the bar that I have never seen open. A must visit before Crew Games. I love live music and this place has it almost every night, though it always has a cover which is a little bit of a bummer. The Bell's handle is always $3.50 which is a great price and they have a nice selection of craft brews. read more

I've seen a decent amount of shows at Ruby Tuesday. I've never been there before ten or so, so i don't know what it's like in the day, but judging by the giant frat dude who wanted to fight me for helping the drunken stranger puking on his yard around the corner, I suspect it might not be my thing. And also judging by the little fratty dudes that were shirtlessly beer bonging Natty next door, I'm thinking the day crowd might suck. But we probably have different musical tastes, so the frat kids and I are two ships passing in the night, apparently. I've always been impressed by the beer selection- Bell's Two Hearted in particular- and how inexpensive the scotch is. If you like the band, but don't want to socialize, you can hide in the back. If you don't like the band, there's always the patio (but you can't bring drinks out there after 1:30). You can check out the band from the bar area, where you can hear well enough for conversation too. Overall, a great venue if the music's good. read more

Have had several fun nights at Ruby Tuesday. The trivia/karaoke on wednesdays is super fun. Drink prices are amazing! What completely killed my experience/vibe was the last time I was there was the bartender arguing with me to tip him. I forgot my card at the last bar I was at, and I was paying with my buddy's money. Trust me, I tip, literally put up an $8 tip on a $12 tab there the other weekend. I've worked in a resteraunt, I know what it's like to work on tips. Are you really going to argue with a patron of your establishment? I have never been to a bar where the bartenders have done this. What?? No one has reviewed Ruby's??? Crazy. When I lived in Columbus, this was hands down my favorite bar. Laid back, great atmosphere, with a little something for everyone. The porch is great in the summer, perfect for people watching and consuming pitcher after cheap pitcher of beer. Inside, there's a pool table with plenty of room to play, a comfortable bar where interesting conversations are always sure to arise, and off to the side a small-ish room where bands and local musicians play nightly. What I like about this place is that if you are not into watching the band, you can be in another room without it taking over your experience. The drinks here are ridiculously cheap. Last time I was there, happy hour had pitchers for $3.50. Yes, three dollars and fifty cents. If you really want to look for the best bargain there, they have a DRINK MENU hanging up, with prices! So no guessing how much your tab will be at the end of the night. All and all, great place. Can't wait to go back the next time I visit family in Ohio. Also, not sure if this still applies, but a bartender who may or may not still work there brings in his giant great dane, Argyle-- the most humongous, but also the sweetest, dog I've ever seen in my life. Absolutely disgusted. Went to karaoke last night. A group of white males went up to sing a song that used the N word a lot. I was with a couple of people who were highly offended by this because the group of men continued to yell this word every time it came up. When my friends asked the DJ to do something about it, he said "it's just a song". You're kidding, right? You are the DJ. You can absolutely do something about it. Especially if it's offensive. I have been to plenty of karaoke nights and every time that word comes up, no one ever says it. Just skip over it. Great job, Ruby Tuesday. read more

My neighborhood bar of choice, I love Ruby's. With the amount of money I have spent here in the last year alone, I am surprised I am not at least majority shareholder. Before going further into the review though, a point of interest: there is no salad bar here. Why? Because it's not a crappy chain restaurant. Those burgers that you saw on the commercial are also not available here. Why? Because those are located 7 miles away at the unaffiliated restaurant. By all means though, this place is better than the restaurant. I figure I will point this out because, though hilarious to watch, it is pertinent information for families with their young kids. Being that this is a bar, the food situation is limited. The only real food here is pizza. While this pizza isn't the best pizza I have ever had, you can't beat it for the price (around $10 if you are reasonable with toppings) and can you think of too many meals that are better than the glorious combination that is pizza and beer? Thought not. The beer selection is pretty decent here. I would rate it above par versus most other "divey" bars. There are eight beers (or so) on draft available in three different sizes (and are cheaper on happy hour) and a pretty long list of bottles/cans. The liquor selection, unlike the beer, is pretty limited. They stock all your basics but don't expect anything exotic or for them to have your favorite weird flavor of vodka. Speaking of liquor, I probably wouldn't try and get too crazy with your mixed drink order (but for all I know they may be able to make you a bubblegum-tini.) Do make sure to try the $2 Trailer Park shot. What really makes Ruby's different from other bars in the area (besides the vibe, the decor, the bathrooms, the patrons, the prices, and the staff) is the plethora of things to do. Pull tab "bingo" cards? Darts (provided you own your own)? Pool tables? Jukebox? Live bands? All there. All yours for the taking. The only real downside is that there are bands almost every Thursday through Saturday. The bands are usually pretty decent and varied in genre (I heard a legitimate ska band here the other day, without time-traveling to 1993!) but when there are bands there is almost always a cover (to pay the bands, duh). read more

I've eaten at RTs in Hilliard, Tuttle, Tulsa and St Louis, and they are all consistently decent for a family-oriented chain restaurant. I can't say I'm a fan of this kind of restaurant but it's definitely better than, say, O'Charleys or Applebees. The menu is extensive but pretty predictable. I've gotta admit the ribs and Louisiana fried shrimp I had a couple of weeks ago (in Tulsa) were really good. The salad bar is always really excellent, with a huge choice of veggies, pasta salads etc. Seating at RT's is always prompt, and the service very good. read more

It seems like everybody i know has seen a show at Ruby Tuesday. Not me. If i ever get a gigging-level band together again, i will definitely go there in search of a booking. It seems that the management is receptive to bands that are just starting to perform publicly. Last Summer i dropped in to Ruby Tuesday just twice on sweltering afternoons. During happy hour, the Bell's Two-Hearted is temptingly cheap, but i can't recall exactly the price. I had to forcibly detach myself from the bar after three of them so that i didn't end up scrapping the day in a beer blur. The bartender, a young guy, was friendly and we both paid attention to Jeopardy and had some meta-exchanges over it. The bar is dingy, worn and dark. I was confused for some time over references to Ruby Tuesday as a local music bar because i only knew of the chain concept restaurant. This atmosphere lies far on the other side of the continuum. All in all, my experiences at this bar have been pleasant and brief. I'll need to take in a show there in order to do a more thorough write-up. read more

I love this bar. Definitely one of my top 4 bars around campus. Cheap pitchers during happy hour makes this bar one of the best places around. AND... who has strongbow on tap? They do! And guinness. Good live music. The interior isn't the best, but an updated, cool, hip looking bar doesn't mean jack. Need I name other countless bars who go out of business, hoping to update the inside and get a new name, only to be the same crappy bar they were before? (Skye, McFaggies, Ledo's, 4 Kegs, etc...) The basement where the restrooms are located IS a little scary but I've never really find the bathrooms gross--just old. I'm telling you, this bar is legit. I love it. I have so many great memories of this place. This place is even more awesome for the fact that this old bar used to be my Dad's favorite when he was a teenager (had a fake!) 30-40 years ago... and I didn't know that until after the fact. This is a neighborhood bar and they are very accommodating to your needs. Cool patio in front and a killer DJ most nights. Also 4$ draft beer pitchers during happy hour and only $7.50 otherwise.
