As a military member going through an honorable discharge to help my family in crisis while already injured myself, I had to empty out my own savings and my children's I had saved up over a 9-month deployment in the combat zone to move back to my family when they needed my help, not even sure if I could then provide for them. After nearly 12 hours of work, the movers left my home in complete disarray. Almost everything was piled into my living room, blocking access to the back of the house. My bed wasn't assembled, clothes had been thrown on the floor, and the job was left unfinished. When they presented an invoice charging me for almost 12 hours, I questioned the condition in which they were leaving my home. Instead of addressing my concerns professionally, one of the movers became aggressive and confrontational. He told me he would not leave my house until I signed the paperwork. I repeatedly explained that I wanted to speak with his manager before signing anything. He became increasingly hostile, called someone on the phone, and began using profanity and making disrespectful comments about me. I was alone in my home with my child at the time, and I found his behavior extremely intimidating. When I called the person who had recommended the company and handed the mover my phone so they could speak, he threw my phone. I was advised to contact the police because of his behavior. Eventually, he left, but not before insisting that I would still have to pay and could complain the following day. I have photographs documenting the condition in which they left my home, as well as videos of the employee's behavior. No customer should ever feel intimidated or unsafe in their own home, especially when simply questioning an invoice or requesting to speak with management. I did request a 17 foot truck minimum as I had previously moved with the same amount of items and I knew that's what we needed. They did show up with a smaller truck because the larger was taken for another job that morning, but they were super cool and we made it work with a few adjustments and were offered two trips if we couldn't make it in one. He spoke to the mover who was assigned to our project and corrected him. I appreciated his attitude and willingness to make it right. He said it was not their company's practice to add last minute charges but sometimes a few of their moving guys act on their own accord to add charges. He apologized and refunded me and offered to refund the tip as well (which I elected not to do). ----------------------------------- We used this company after getting quoted in advance using a video meeting with Mark. We were moving within the same zip code (2 miles away) and their quote was reasonable and similar to others. They were willing to send 3 guys which some companies won't do (they only send 2 or 4 so they can partner up). This company seems to use a bid low and then bait and switch strategy. The movers were in the middle of the moving an empty 8 drawer dresser and the lead guy decided it was heavy. After they moved it, he came to me and told me there would be a bulky item charge of $150 for this item. I asked what defined a bulky item and he said it was just very heavy and said they had to take it down the steps (all of which were discussed in advance and even listed out in our contract). During the quote, I was told by this company and others that same zip code quotes (we moved 3 miles approx 12 min driving on the day of the move) would not have double drive time added to the quote, but at the end the moving team insisted this was not the case if they drove more than 15 min. He insisted he would have to charge me double for drive time (rounded up first and then doubled). I think he kept the drive timer running to get over 15' min then they claimed they have to double the drive time. They rounded 16 min up to 30 min and then doubled it so I was charged for 60 min of drive time when in fact it was 12 or so. He said it was in the terms and conditions which he had me sign on his iPhone at the beginning of the move without giving me the chance to read any of the text. At the end of the move I just wanted to be done with it, so I didn't argue too much, but the fact that they essentially added $500 or so of various extras was pretty infuriating. The driver then insisted that I should tip them. We have moved 3 times within San Diego in the last 10 years, so I have some point of comparison and I would look elsewhere. If you choose this company, make sure you account for a couple hundred extra to the quote since they will find a way to do that. The service was decent. The guys worked decently hard but not particularly fast. They were not super careful when wrapping and moving, but nothing got majorly damaged. We did end up with some wall nicks in our brand new place.
