I would strongly encourage anyone who is seeking a vasectomy to seriously reconsider. Do your…read moreresearch and fully understand that what you will hear from this practice is a misleading representation of stats and outcomes regarding the risks of this seemingly common procedure. I waited over two years to post this review as I know I can't change my decision, but perhaps I can help others learn from my research. I had a vasectomy done in late 2018 and months later started developing Post Vasectomy Pain Syndrome, a condition I was not even aware existed until after the procedure was done. At first these guys were great, they ordered ultrasounds, made time to hear my concerns but once the pain continued and no obvious answers were found, I was referred out for pain management and that was that. Two years later am still experiencing ongoing daily pain that will likely be lifelong despite a reversal earlier this year. I was willing to pay the premium price tag for the individualized attention of the practice, but if you are part of the 15% of men who develop any longterm complications from the procedure--you are on your own because they'll act like PVPS doesn't exist. Welcome to Hell. PVPS affects upward of 15% of men according to a 2016 study. (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4854072/) The consequences are lifelong and very difficult to pinpoint. Their consent form is a laughably thin single page document which cites the possibility of some post-operative pain and complication, but PVPS and lifelong pain is mentioned exactly zero times. These guys are great salesmen. You walk in thinking, "It's simple, quick, effective, and has no impact on anything other than fertility and this is white glove service. False. Nowhere does it mention the well documented possibility of PVPS which has been known for decades. Had I been presented with true outcome risks and a true understanding of the longterm impact I would have walked out the door, and you should too. As Warren Buffett famously said, "Never ask a barber if you need a haircut" and never let a urologist sell you on a vasectomy.

I was told Dr. Engel would review and potentially assume care as one of his patients, so I scheduled an appointment. My initial appointment was uneventful however, I did find it odd that Dr. Engel, started off by indicating he would've never approached my case the way his former colleague had essentially throwing him under the bus, but I did appreciate his directness. and honesty. Dr. Engel promptly arranged for a biopsy at an outpatient facility, which identified three cancerous lesions in contrast to a prior in-office biopsy that had received from his former practice colleague that indicated I was cancer-free. For that, I am grateful. However, during my follow-up visit, I asked a few questions, two of which were: whether post-surgical treatment if needed could be coordinated in Baltimore (as I was planning to relocate), and whether he had observed more aggressive prostate cancer cases among African-American patients given my family history of fatal outcomes. In response, Dr. Engel told me that my question about racial disparities was "one of the dumbest questions" he had heard and suggested that perhaps I should start treatment in Baltimore. He then exited the exam room. I was surprised and disappointed by the tone and manner of the interaction, especially given the seriousness of a cancer diagnosis and the well-documented disparities in prostate cancer outcomes. I later sought treatment at Johns Hopkins, where I experienced excellent care and professional communication. While I cannot and would not, speak to Dr. Engel's clinical competence, my personal experience with communication and bedside manner was not one I would recommend. Respectfully submitted Damon D

I was seen much later than expected, due to patient volume. Dr. Engel handled my sensitive areas very roughly and performed the procedure as if in a hurry. What's worse - it was unsuccessful! The staff wasn't contrite when I informed them and instead wanted to reschedule. I will get the procedure done elsewhere. Avoid this practice. Oh, also Tony Kornheiser was in the office that day, and Dr. Engel bragged that he'd get a shoutout on Tony's show at the end (he didn't).
