Bacon egg and cheese

Gasp! Phenomenal portions, bacon extra crispy and not chewy, and fluffy delicious bagels, all for an affordable price?? This place is amazing!

This biggest special order bagel I've ever seen!
Michael R.

Picked up a bagel for myself and a coworker and was welcomed with smiles! While waiting on my steak and cheese bagel and nova with lox spread, I watched them remove the biggest bagel I've ever seen. This obviously was a special catering order because even the cashier could not tell me how much an order like that would cost. The place was busy with a purposeful hum and quiet ambiance. There were five people in front of me and was able to get my order in and walk out in less than 10 minutes!

Absolutely phenomenal place. The people are great. Food is the best. i've been coming here for 30+ years.

Bagels friends and outdoor seating

Food came out quick and the workers are super kind and make an effort to remember their regulars. A great customer - business culture. There's not much seating inside but there's a lot of seating outdoors in Rosslyn. I ordered a sausage, cucumber, and tomato on an Asiago bagel. Very good, the bagel was a little more flat/hard fo rmy liking but still amazing! My friends are vegan and vegetarian and did not have any concerns/struggles on what to order. Coming back again soon!

This place was popping on a Sunday morning! My wife and I had very different experiences. I had a salt bagel with lox cream cheese and chive cream cheese and thought it was excellent The bagel was fresh and had the perfect texture. On the flip side, my wife got an egg sandwich on a bagel and did not like it. In fact, she compared it to a Lenders bagel, which is about a big an insult you can give to a bagel. Maybe she just needs to give it another try :-)

Lox on toasted plain bagel

Some of my favorite bagels in the DC area! I got lox on a toasted plain bagel with onions and capers. Even though it was around $10, they were extremely generous with the lox. It was an incredibly tasty bite, maybe my only complaint was that there was really just a lot of cream cheese. Definitely wasn't an issue, and overall the bagel was extremely good. I also had a coffee and two other orders, which all came out quickly despite how bustling it was. We were there the morning of the Marine Corps Marathon and it felt like everyone was packed in there. They moved through orders quickly, but everyone was also super gracious, there wasn't a ton of seating inside, but it wasn't hard to find a bench or table outdoors to eat our meals. Note that there's no public restroom in here, but plenty of other options nearby. Can't wait for our next trip back to DC!

What i ordered.. vs what I actually got

Ordered via Uber Eats early morning, got ZERO of the bagels I selected. I would not have ordered had I known I would be getting an entirely different order. Also the one bagel I tried tasted stale

bacon egg and cheese on blueberry bagel
Zarin B.

Ordered delivery on a Friday morning. Got a bacon egg and cheese on a blueberry bagel, a sausage egg and cheese on a wheat everything bagel, and two banana nut bagels with plain cream cheese (for the price of one). Definitely solid bagels. The blueberry bagel probably could have used more blueberries in it, and the banana nut one was actually like a muffin but without the sweetness. The wheat everything bagel was my favorite. I do wish they would wrap their breakfast sandwiches in foil to keep them warm though, as ours were wrapped in paper and kind of cold by the time they arrived. Other than that, no qualms! Definitely a no brainer when craving bagels.

whitefish salad on an everything bagel
Michelle V.

Stopped by on a weekday around noon. There was a short line and short wait. There's limited bar seating by the window of the shop. I ordered a whitefish salad sandwich on an everything bagel. The wait was around 5 minutes. This was one of the messiest meals I've ever had. They give you a MASSIVE amount of whitefish salad. Luckily, there is a station for sauces, sweeteners, utensils at the back of the shop. I ended up eating some of my food with a fork and knife. It felt near impossible to pick up and casually bite into the sandwich. By the end, the sandwich was practically falling apart. Overall it was a tasty and filling way to fuel my day of exploring museums. I would recommend ordering ahead online since I saw a lot of people doing that and I was a bit intimidated by all the options ordering on the spot. All in all this was my first meal in DC and it was great. I'd come back!

I dropped over here as I was leaving the metro station across the street. They had a really cool looking Rainbow Bagel for $3.50 and the cream cheese was additional. It seemed like a good choice given the World Pride Weekend this weekend. They were about getting ready to close, and I was a little bit rushed myself so I took it to go. The bagel itself tasted pretty much the same as a plain bagel which was good. I think I would have liked the bagel better with strawberry smear but it didn't appear that they had that. This is a decent bagel shop and I would recommend it to my friends.

Exactly what you'd expect from a bagel shop. They have an assortment of bagels and different sandwiches on the menu - the line moves fast so be prepared to order! You don't want to hold anyone up on their morning rush lol. I tried their seasonal rainbow bagel with bacon, egg, and cheese - made for a sizeable breakfast sandwich!

Walking into this dimly lit little counter, it passes the eye test, the smell test, and the taste test of a true New York bagelry. With about 17 flavors on offer, including the more elusive pumpernickel and egg varieties, the real litmus test is how a bagel holds up without toasting or toppings. First bite: the slightest crisp gives way to that unmistakable soft chew inside. I'm not sure how, but there was even a hint of warmth, as though it had just come out of the oven. In a region where a decent bagel is about as rare as an honest politician, it's no accident that this humble spot, around for over 20 years, keeps landing on the Washington Post's best-bagels lists. One caveat: the jalapeño cheddar ran spicier than expected. It's probably best balanced with cream cheese or turned into a sandwich. Still, my better half, a Northeast native and a famously critical bagel judge, couldn't stop going back for more bites despite the heat. That's high praise. The jury's out on the jalapeño cheddar, but on everything else, I rest my case.

The bagel was not necessarily as good and was lackluster which was why I rated it a 4. What helped was the Asiago bagel. Overall prices are a little on the higher end but would definitely recommend. They also don't accept credit card unless it's $10 and over

I also realize that my own sensitivity to sweetness is biased, so I won't critique the Habibi latte so harshly. Primary issue with the AI signage remains. Will be back in soon; still very much recommend Detour to others!* Stopped in while running some morning errands after realizing I forgot to eat breakfast; have been a few times previously, first time I decided to review. The food was honestly solid. Ordered the Magician breakfast sandwich as well as the Habibi Latte. The Magician was solid; balanced and hearty without being too dense; the pupusa bun is an intriguing touch; suppose the name "magician" refers to how quickly it disappears, but I could be wrong, haha! The Habibi latte was decent; a little too heavy on the ice, but the flavor profile including dates, cinnamon and cardamom was robust, and evoked the flavors of a Yemeni coffee shop. My biggest issue, one that warrant a full two stars off, is the ambiance. Namely the furnishings as well as the use of AI . While most of the dining room is eclectic and inviting, the furniture, namely the chairs and benches, are deteriorating and visibly withering. I forgot to take a photo, but imaging leather chairs and vinyl seat cushions scaling, chipping and disintegrating beneath you. Past reviews going back a couple years have pointed this out with increasing frequency; I highly encourage the ownership to take notice of this. Moreover, there are a number of visually-obvious AI generated posters throughout the shop, and that also seems to indicate a level of increasing carelessness as well. Overall, not bad, but I am worried about the trajectory of the shop from the lack of investment in dining room infrastructure and promotional materials.

Outdoor seating is a bit noisy at the moment due to construction across the street. My only complaint is that $3.50 for a very small drip coffee felt a bit steep - the small felt smaller than usual.

Always a decent value for the quality sandwiches they sell and everything packed within two slices of bread, especially the meats! The meats are baked--prepared in house, so you know you're in for some good eats. My all time favorite here is the House Roasted Turkey Club! When I tell you this sandwich is stacked!....its an understatement. The turkey is house roasted and piled high.....And, so tender and juicy. This sandwich is a must try and I recommend. During lunch time frames, it could get busy but it is worth it. Wait times and queuing can be a bit long but it's fine for the sandwiches I get. Also, online ordering is available which help when you don't have time to wait. Not to mention, they provide an online tracker that lets you know when your order is almost ready or available which is very helpful when picking up your order online. It's very helpful when strap for time and you are in need for something quick or planning a drive to their shop. In all, you can't go wrong with this place. The vibe is casual.
