I have been with Groupon for over 15 years. I purchased a getaway and Groupon did not honor my Groupon selevt 10%off .I tried to get my money back and they told me Groupon bucks was all I coulg get and then I tried to cancel my trip and go witht the resort directly because it was the same amount and they would not give me my refund either. Horrible upper managment and support staff was not better. I will NEVER purchase from here again because they do not honor thier word. I was told by thier staff that if I was not satisfied that I would be able to get a complete refund back to my card by 11/23/24 and here is it 8/28 and they are telling me NO. They will not have to worry about me givng them gooe reveiws or telling any moreof my contacts about howgood they WERE!!! Took the chocolate tour in Georgetown today. I'm sorry the other reviewers were not happy with their tours. I received this as a gift from my bro and it was a Groupon deal. My hubby and I really enjoyed it! We arrived 20 mins early and the guy checking us in said that the tour may start early, but looking at his check in list, it seemed like it was bc almost everyone had arrived. There were 2 separate grps & only 20 ppl in ea grp. At 1st I was bummed that the 6 stops weren't places that were only choc, but it ended up being a great experience, getting a taste of other things with chocolate in it, like bread, cupcakes, caramels, and fudge, as well as chocolate bars and bon bons. We also enjoyed our guide, Linda. She was bubbly (but not sickingly), knowledgeable about the area and our stops, careful about getting us to our destination safely, and good about moving us along but not rushing us. Only complaint....1 of our stops was closed for the thanksgiving weekend. Great Food Tour should've either checked with each stop bc if the holiday, and the closed stop should've notified the tour company. We weren't made aware of the closure until near the end. read more

I went on the Cupcake & Macaron Tour in Georgetown and I had a wonderful time! Our tour guide Phillip was awesome! I would recommend have the tour guides hold a flag or banner for people to follow on the tour. The sidewalks are narrow so it's hard for the group to walk all together. I bought 4 deals through groupon and after all the discounts I was able to get each deal for around $17 bucks. Compared to the $50 retail price, I think that's a steal. It was a little confusing to place my reservations, but not too bad. I wish they would have sent a reminder email since I made the reservations a month in advanced. I drove down early to make sure I factored in time to find parking and I found a 2 hour meter. With the park mobile app it was easy to refill, instead of having to run back or find a parking garage. The meeting place was that the Old Stone Cottage and we didn't see anyone. Luckily I saw a guy holding a folder and asked him if he was the tour guide and he was, but I felt he def should have had a sign or held a flag or something official to make it known he's a tour guide. Our tour guide was Phillip who is a history teacher for 6 & 7th graders. He was amazing! He gave us history tidbits throughout the whole tour. He was enthusiastic and super nice. He gave us a heads up every time he thought there would be a long trek or tight spaces. I thought he was the best tour guide we could have gotten. He def made our experience more enjoyable. We were only suppose to go to 6 stops, but Phillip said we would be going to 7! Score! An extra stop!! Our very 1st stop was my favorite, Sprinkles. The sample was a chocolate cupcake with chocolate frosting and it was delicious! The cupcake was moist and fluffy and the frosting wasn't too sweet. The chocolate flavor was strong and amazing!!! It was nice to learn that Sprinkles is big on charity and they donate their cupcakes daily. They also make a doggie cupcake and will have a cupcake vending machine soon!!!! Ooooooo can't wait! The 2nd stop was a bit of a walk, Thomas Sweet. Obama loves the fudge here. I'm not a huge fudge fan b/c it's too dense and way to sweet. The fudge was tasty, but didn't standout to me from other fudges I had. We all got chocolate fudge. The 3rd stop was Patisserie Poupon. We tried their pastries here. I grabbed a caramel looking Napoleon and it was yummy! I kinda got impatient for Macarons and bought some here. It's the cheapest Macaron for 85 cents, but not the best tasting. The 4th stop was Macaron Bee. This was such a cute little shop and the I'm not sure if the store owner was the person serving us, but she was French and explained her Macarons beautifully. I tried the Matcha Green Tea Macaron and it was deeeeeelicious!!! Sooo good. I do love green tea so I could be biased. Haha The 5th stop was Olivia Macaron. This was a super far walk, but the scenery was pretty to look at. This was a more polished, professional looking shop. I tried the spicy Mexican chocolate bacon macaron. That was tasty and interesting to try. You really get the bits of bacon flavor. The 6th stop was Dean & Deluca. We got to try the Neapolitan Macaron. Chocolate and vanilla meringue with a strawberry filling. I approve! It was delicious. The 7th stop was Georgetown Cupcakes. Since the shop is very popular, Phillip said he would run over and bring back the cupcakes to us. I had the red velvet and it was yummy. If I had to compare cupcakes I would say I prefer Sprinkles. My favorite macaron of all time is still Laduree. Tout de Sweet is good for being in the area. The best flavor macaron on the tour was Macaron Bee' green tea, but best texture was Olivia Macaron. I highly recommend this tour and if you get Phillip as your tour guide, it's a guaranteed awesome time! There are many opportunities to have extra at most of the shops. Also, some of the shops lets you choose your own flavors. FYI, 7 sweets is a lot for 1 person, so bring Tupperware to take home some of it. We went to a macaroon store where they looked very disappointed when we said we were with the chocolate tour, then we had ten minutes to wander Dean and Deluca, not sure why since we didn't get anything there - just wandered around the shop??? Then we went to another Macaroon stop where, because they were busy, we had to go in two at a time and wait in the crammed entry way. Also - why does the chocolate tour include two macaroon stops? Last, we went to Thomas Sweets, had some fudge and ice cream, which was delicious but by that point we were cold and disappointed. The tour included very little info about the places we were visiting (History of store? How products are made? Anything really other than owner name and when opened???) The tour page said we would go to Godiva, Pie Sisters and as it mentioned Dean and Deluca I thought something chocolate from there? If all I wanna do is buy sweets I could do on my own. **Important to know: I contacted the company three times, trying to remedy this issue before I left a negative review, because so many reviews are from hotheads who don't try to fix the problem. They ignored me all three times.** I bought this deal through Groupon. The deal was very clear and said the tour was limited to 20 people, one of the main appeals to me; Georgetown's shops, for the most part, are very small, and a big group makes it hard to stay together and hear the guide. I arrived ten minutes early, but parking in Georgetown is tough, and other food tours I have been on have left sharply at the scheduled time. This makes sense because a tour can't be expected to wait for every single person with a traffic or sob story. Or so I thought. I paid $20 to park in a close lot so I wouldn't be left behind. This was my choice and that's on me; however, I was infuriated when I got there and the guide insisted on waiting on every single person to arrive. We did not leave until 12:15 pm. Ok, I am a reasonable person. It bothered me, but nothing is perfect. Then the guide said there were 38 people on the tour, one of them a newborn baby in a huge stroller. Really? A baby in a stroller on the tiny streets of Georgetown trying to get into tiny chocolate shops? The tour guide said he had to divide us into two groups to accommodate the small shop space and that he was the tour guide scheduler! He laughed and said he was surprised it was so big on a Thursday afternoon. I wasn't laughing. He basically admitted he did this on purpose and did not care. So now we were split in two groups, and at almost all of the stops, one group would go in while the other sat twiddling their thumbs to wait their turn. Not what we paid for. Also, on other food tours I have been on, there was a rule prohibiting people on the tour from buying things in each store because if every single person were to do personal business, the tour would never move along. They gave us coupons and encouraged us to come back at the end. On THIS tour, everyone- all 38 people- were allowed to take their sweet time, buying individual chocolates, signing up for loyalty clubs....so in addition to already waiting around while being split into groups, we waited around for that. It was honestly ridiculous. That is not how you run a food tour. Additionally, I spoke to the tour guide at the beginning to ensure the tour would be over at the promised time of 2 pm. He assured me numerous times it would be. By 1:55, we were still walking to the last stop. I had to leave early. Before the tour, a couple weeks before in fact, I had emailed the company a simple question and they did not get back to me. I had to email again and wait a total of a week before I finally got an answer. This time, I emailed them three times with my reasonable complaints- they violated what they had promised- and have received nothing back. I told them I didn't want to leave a negative review but that someone needed to work with me. It shows you what kind of company they are that they will not even answer calm and reasonable complaints, and the other reviews seem to confirm this. Stay away. Far, far away. I would strongly advise against this tour. In fact I would give it negative stars if that was possible. However I am unable to speak on the 'tour' itself since we never had the chance to go. I purchased the tickets on Jan 7, & after being jerked around for almost a month I requested a refund (on Feb 5). We have scheduled the tour every single weekend for a month & keep receiving emails saying it has been canceled. So this could be the best damn cupcake & macaron tour ever, but their service is absolutely horrible. They do not give a number to call with any problems, only an email address. Fun little tour! Our guide was Tujean (I'm probably butchering the spelling) and I was on the chocolate tour. I loved our guide, he was very knowledgeable and personable. We wandered about Georgetown on bother main drags and side neighborhoods so we had a nice variety and didn't have to strain to hear our guide. The shops we visited were lovely and all the samples tasty. Overall a great time. I gave it 4 out of 5 because of the price. I used a groupon for this. I paid 45 dollars for two people. I felt like this was fine, maybe pushing it a bit but not terrible. I couldn't imagine any reason why this tour would be close to 100 dollars regular price had i paid that i would have felt quite ripped off which is a shame because i would love to come back with a big group of people but without that groupon I'll pass. read more

A friend and I did the Cupcake and Macaron tour of Georgetown offered by Great Food Tours. Our tour guide Kate was great. I think they should advertise the tour as a cupcake, macaron, and mini-history tour of Georgetown as we learned about the area as historically significant sites were pointed out and explained during our walk to the various cupcake and macaron places on the tour, which we weren't expecting, but we thoroughly enjoyed. Below is a list of the places we visited on the tour and what we got at each tour stop: Sprinkles - Mini Red Velvet Cupcake Patisserie Poupon - They brought a box with a variety of pastries in it, such as eclairs, cream puffs, and little fruit tarts. I tried the mini cream puff that was in the shape of a swan. Not only did it have a nice presentation, but it was tasty as well. Macaron Bee - Picked a macaron, but they had limited flavors to pick from as they were already out of some flavors. Thomas Sweet - delicious salted caramel fudge. This is also where we stopped to sit down for a bit, grab some water and use the bathroom. Olivia Macaron - After giving us a brief history of Olivia Macaron (the macaron maker previously worked at Laduree in Paris) and a rundown of all of the flavors they offer, we got to pick any flavor from their menu to try. I tried their seasonal Pumpkin Spice flavor and loved it. Georgetown Cupcake - Mini Red Velvet Cupcake - Note, we didn't get to go inside Georgetown Cupcake. Our tour guide ran inside to get the box of cupcakes while we waited on the other side of the road across the street and brought them out to us. We were given a mini cupcake from both Georgetown Cupcake and Sprinkles as part of the tour. Considering there were only two cupcakes as part of the tour, it would have been nice to have been able to try another flavor besides red velvet at both locations. Additionally, Great Good Tours needs to work on better coordinating the tours because there was one other cupcake and macaron tour and another tour, which meant a couple of times we had to wait or walk to a different location because another tour group was at the location we originally were walking to. Note, this tour involves a decent amount of walking so wear comfortable shoes, especially considering you will have to walk up the steep incline of Wisconsin Ave. Also, we lucked out and the day of our tour, the weather was gorgeous. While it's hard to anticipate what the weather is going to be like on the day of your tour because you have to schedule it so far in advance, I'd keep in mind that because many of the places you're visiting are small and the whole group won't fit inside the locations, you end up spending the majority of the tour outside. read more

I bought a Groupon for this ($19) and would say that I got my money's worth! I went with my girlfriend on a Saturday. There was about 25 people in the tour group, which did make it feel slightly cramped. Despite that, the chocolate we received was pretty good, and I was satisfied with almost every location. The tour guide is very friendly and welcoming. It was fun and something different for sure. My husband and I decide to use their Groupon for my birthday because I love deserts :) The weather was randomly cold and gray that day, which was unfortunate because I bet with beautiful weather this could've been even better. Overall, though, we had a really nice afternoon adventuring and eating! It was great exploring the different parts of Georgetown and learning it's history, plus I had never been to any of the places on the tour before. Our favorite was definitely the chocolate cupcake from Sprinkles, but we also loved the rich chocolate/salted caramel fudge from Tom's Sweets. Neither of us had eaten a macaron before that day, so trying a couple different flavors like red velvet, cappuccino and coconut was great. Our tour guide Phillip was super easy going, funny, and led us around well. A few things I didn't expect was that we would get smaller sample sizes of the cupcakes and that we didn't get to choose from the entire selection of flavors. Macaron Bee was great and let us select from their entire flavor collection (I liked their macaron's the best too), and a couple other places gave you 2-3 options, but the cupcakes and fudge were decided for you. That was fine, but I wish I could've picked a different Georgetown cupcake flavor. My husband and I both agreed (maybe against popular belief) that the Georgetown cupcake wasn't as amazing as it was famous for, but still good. We thought Sprinkles was better haha. This review is about the Groupon I purchased for Best Tours Chocolate Tour of DC. I originally booked February 22nd for a March 26th tour. The tour was canceled on March 25th at 3pm, 24 hours before the tour. I rescheduled on March 28th to a tour on April 23rd. The tour was canceled on April 22nd at 5pm, less than 24 hours before the tour. There were no dates in the foreseeable future that my guest and I could go on this tour together anymore. As Best Tours had canceled on us within 24 hours twice now, even if rebooked, I didn't have confidence that the tour would actually happen anyways. Luckily, my Groupon was refunded in full. If I could give zero stars I would. Reserved tickets for the cupcake and macaron tour in DC, and received a text the day before saying it was cancelled. I'd also like to mention that the reason they cancelled is because they didn't "break even" with the number of people that signed up, mind you I had 5 people in my group. I contacted customer service to receive a refund because I booked this for out of town guests, and there wasn't another time that we could go on the tour during their stay. It's been two weeks and I have YET to receive a refund, instead their customer service team keeps asking me round about questions to which I've already provided and they could clearly look up themselves. I bought a living social deal for this tour and it expired at the end of March. I tried to book my tour for 3 separate dates and it kept getting cancelled due to low numbers. I understand that it doesn't make sense to run the tour with only a few people. but it was still frustrating. We finally had a date booked (3/4) for 4:00. My husband and I drove an hour to D.C., sat in traffic and paid for parking and then we found the meeting spot. At around 4:05 I texted the number that had sent me a confirmation text an hour earlier and I asked if there would be a tour guide coming soon. I received a message saying that there was a problem with the tour guide and that the tour was cancelled. I get that emergencies happen but after reading other reviews, it doesn't seem like this was a one time thing. If I could give less than 1 star, I would. I bought a living social voucher, registered on the company website, scheduled a tour for 330pm on Sunday 2/19/17. Showed up 15 minutes early. Waited until 4pm and no one from the company showed up. There were about 10 other people there besides my friend and I. One couple said they came for the 1230 appt earlier that day and no one showed up for that tour either. I texted the company at 3:45 and got a text back that said only "the tour happened." We have constantly emailed them asking when would be a best time to schedule something. They have replied twice and scheduled it, but then they send out an email cancelling it. We grabbed the living social deal for two for the cupcake and macaroon tour - two of our favorite things! - and figured we had nothing better planned, so we'd go ahead and set this up. Figuring we'd go out after lunch, we set reservations for the 1pm tour. We got called the day before and told our reservation was changed to the 4pm tour. Not off to a great start, but fortunately we didn't have any specific plans so it worked out for us. We met for the tour after doing a bit of eating and walking - we were not hungry, but were excited for some great desserts! We arrived semi-early but saw another group waiting ahead of us. As we greeted the tour guide a group approached and proceeded to say they were there for the chocolate tour (which starts 30 minutes prior to the cupcake tour). We come to find out that Best Tours outsources the scheduling of the tours to a call center in Poland, who had given a bad time to this group (as the chocolate tour had been cancelled - which our tour guide explained was due to an injury the other guide had). To be as accommodating as possible, our tour guide decided that this would be a cupcake and chocolate tour. The rest of the groups arrived (12 total) and we went off. If you've been to the Georgetown area you can probably guess a couple of the stops, but there were definitely a couple that were not as common of stops. We ended up stopping at one place that was a cupcake-specialty place, one place for macaroons, and three other places that had other specialties. For better this offered great opportunity to have a diverse selection of sweets; for worse it meant you didn't particularly get to compare which you liked best. So far I've neglected to talk about the tour itself. I'm honestly not sure if the tour guide was a bit scatterbrained naturally, or was thrown off by improvising a new tour, but it ended up making the tour feel a bit awkward. The guide mentioned multiple places in the beginning that we did not go to, and seemed to make up where we were going on the spot. The tour guide had a hard time both leading the group between locations and talking to the group. So much so that many times he was towards the rear of the group and those in the group had to shout to those in the front to turn as we were walking. The history facts were interesting, but completely random. We heard about many areas we were not walking in, and rarely about things we were actively seeing. The locations you stop in are often not large, so a group of 12 fits awkwardly. We stayed at the first location awkwardly long for such a busy place, and at a later place - which was not as busy - for what felt like awkwardly short. Overall a predicted 2 hour tour lasted roughly an hour and a half. We've done other tours in DC (even in Georgetown) and can say they were very professional, entertaining, and practiced. This felt like we found someone who took us to a few of their favorite dessert places and told us whatever facts about DC they thought of on the way. This tour allowed me to realize how good the other tours we'd been on were - those other tours had made walking together, as a group, feel seemless and planned, which was exactly what this tour was not. The guide was self-aware enough to realize this tour ended up neither the cupcake tour and chocolate tour, and offered all of us to join again - free of charge - to another tour where we'd get a better experience. This is the main reason I'm giving this three stars instead of two. I do want to say that the tour guide was friendly and the places we went to were good. The guide obviously has plans set in place with these vendors and was fairly easily able to get our samples and get employees of those locations to give us some information. It is a lot of sweets, so be ready with your sweet tooth! Overall I'd say: if you are local and looking for something to do it's not a bad idea, but if you are trying to find a great tour to represent DC or even Georgetown then you'll do better with something different. read more

I recently went on a chocolate walking tour with Great Food Tours in Washington DC. The tour hit 7 different chocolatiers in the Georgetown area over the course of about 2 hours. The tour was well presented and the chocolates were, for the most part, delicious. Some of them were a little generic and bland, but some were amazing. If that was all that I had to say about the event, I'd easily give this a 4 or 5 star review. But the big problem that I have is that the company's website states that they limit the event to 20 guests per tour. However, the tour that I was on had 33 guests, which made the whole thing a little crowded. One of the venues couldn't even handle 33 people in their shop, so we had to go in shifts. A few of the others could handle 33 people, but just barely. The tour guide did a good job in trying to keep everyone together and keep things good, but the fact that there were so many people made it difficult to enjoy the event. read more

Sherry THIS TOUR RUINED OUR DAY IN DC! We took this tour on Saturday. We are a well traveled family and decided to do this tour. We know DC very well, my son has lived there since 2009 (college then full time employment), so we know the area the tour was to be in. We've done paid tours and free walking tours throughout Europe and have really been very happy with them all. THIS tour was by far the very WORSE we've ever been on. The tour guide was late, she reprimanded my husband for standing in her spot, she took us on long walks without it having anything to do with food or tastings. It was very hot and extra walking was insane! She barely spoke about any of the places we did visit and kept telling us how lucky we were to get her and the bonuses she had in store (NO bonuses ever were given). The tour never gave us the opportunity to visit any of the stores we did get samples from (in case we wanted to make a purchase - nice to support these places) AND the best: the tour was cut by 1/2 hour (was supposed to be 2 hours and was not even 90 mins since she was late) so we're sure we missed something we should have gone to. DON'T waste your money! You can easily go into any of the many places, and there are many, that sell cupcakes and macrons and get a sample. Do not pay for a tour. We wish we hadn't. I wish there were negative star option. I had a very very bad experience today during Georgetown Cupcake and Macaroon Tour in Washington DC and asked for a refund. For your reference, my Order number: 100043915. My tour was originally scheduled on Saturday, Oct.24th but got cancelled for no reason so I rescheduled/rebooked Sunday, Oct.25th tour. Maybe it was a bad idea to wear my Hopkins hoodie though I'm not a student anymore and here's why: The tour guide (an elderly female who's a professor, I forgot her name) checked my booking record before the tour began. Then she asked where's everyone coming from except me. I thought she just forgot to ask me and didn't pay much attention to it. But when we walked into Dean & Deluca and she brought sample macarons for everyone to take a bite, I was about to take one and she took my hand and refused to let me take one, saying "this is not for you!". I was astonished and said "I AM part of the group". She apologized and said she thought I was a student (what do you mean by "a student"? Can't a student take the trip? Does student equals free rider??) May be it really was a bad idea to wear a hoodie, which makes me "less important" but I don't think it's my fault because she did checked my reservation record before the tour start. As I was hurt and went a few steps away from the crowd to grab some napkins to swipe my tears, she led the group to the next stop without me. It was unprofessional because she knew how many people booked the tour and did headcount when we were at Olivia Macaron. I've no idea why she left without me, maybe because she still didn't think i'm part of the group. I asked the shop assistant where they were heading and went out looking for them but didn't catch them. I was lost. So I went back to the shop, but the manager didn't have any contact info of the guide and the one who does was not there today. Company is a fraud. Doesn't even get 1 star. Almost 20 people waited for today's cupcake tour and no tour guide showed. We all received confirmation emails and texts. Some even received their confirmation text a few hours prior. No one answered the phone number provided and web site was down. Also saw folks from the 12pm Chocolate tour who said no tour guide showed up for them either. One person from that tour was fortunate enough to text with someone who told her their was no cupcake tour scheduled for today. Looking at other reviews from previous customers it seems this occurs often. I will be sending a letter to the Better Business Bureau. If I could give zero, I would. BEWARE GROUPON CUSTOMERS. I purchased a Groupon after checking availability on Great Food Tours website, for a tour the following Sunday. I received a confirmation from Great Food Tours immediately after I booked the tour on their site, using the Groupon code. Tonight, over 24 hours later, I received an email saying the tour filled up before they processed my reservation, and I need to rebook. Well ... that's a load of crap. They sent me a confirmation for 4 slots, but I suspect now have someone willing to pay full price for the tour, so they don't want to honor the Groupon. I booked that date/time because we have out of town guests coming who were available at the time reserved. This is deceptive and extremely unprofessional. I have asked Groupon for a full refund. There is no way I would do business with a company that treats customers like this. If businesses don't want to honor Groupons, they should not advertise with them. You've been warned! read more

Yikes. On a chocolate tour, you'd expect chocolate. We made five stops (6 listed on website) at which only 3 provided chocolate. We didn't hit the 6th likely due to detours of the tour guide who provided heavily opinionated and often incorrect "factoids" about Georgetown and DC. Of the five stops, 2 were chain establishments (Godiva and Dean and Deluca) and 2 others were brand new and without any DC heritage. Our tour guide made frequent stops in the shade on a 20 degree day (despite several tour goers asking her not to) to describe buildings along the way (they weren't made of chocolate). Call it what it is, a sweets tour with lots of waiting, not a chocolate tour. read more

We were given a gift of the chocolate tour of Georgetown, DC. I must say we were quite disappointed. Why? Let me count the ways: 1. For starters, I received a text (SMS) message from Best Tours at 2:05 pm saying the tour would start in 1 hour. I thought it was to start at 3:30, but we hurried to get to the spot by 3:00 only to find nobody from Best Tours there. The guide arrived at 3:30 on the dot and began check-in. 2. The guide told us the tour would take about 1 hour. Your website said 2 hours, and we had made plans accordingly. 3. I should mention that we had booked this tour 2 earlier times, to be told at the last minute that the tour was cancelled due to insufficient people. So this was our third try. 4. This was advertised as a chocolate tour with 5 merchants listed. Of these, three were not on our tour and only 2 others had been added. But again, for a chocolate tour, we expected chocolate. The first stop was Sprinkles, a cupcake shop. We were given red velvet cupcakes. While there is some chocolate in red velvet, this is not what we would reasonably expect on a chocolate tour. The next 2 stops were macaron shops, both quite good. However 2 macaron places is one too many on a chocolate tour. The stop for fudge at Thomas Sweet was the only actual chocolate of the day. So: 4 stops instead of 5, no serious chocolate except for one of them. read more

This review is as much for our tour guide as the yummy samples. Also, this review is a bit late - went at the beginning of the month. My friend got me the Chocolate Tour for my birthday through Groupon, and when I made the reservations online, I had no problems. Don't know if it's because we did it in a non-busy season, or something, but I signed up for a midday tour on a Sunday barely a week in advance. Our tour guide was Christy, and she was absolutely amazing! She was super perky and informative and always smiling yet moving us along at a good pace - really good as a tour guide! She even checked to see that we all wore comfortable walking shoes and would tell us ahead of time how the trek to the next stop would look (uphill, lots of traffic, small location, etc.) We went to six places: Sprinkles - dark chocolate mini cupcakes So good! Perfect ratio of frosting to moist cake and the person who spoke with us was one of the co-founders of the store in DC. Thomas Sweet - HUGE pieces of chocolate fudge Delicious fudge! Nice outdoor picnic tables which were fortunately free when we stopped by. Great place to rest and enjoy people watching for a bit, since it's the longest trek upill and distance-wise. Super excited to go back and try their ice cream and other sweets :) Godiva - square of milk or dark chocolate Kind of surprised/disappointed that this was on the tour. Chocolate was of course good, but again, would rather have a more local or exclusive place on the tour. Also, the smallest space and the tightest fit. Olivia Macaron - choice of whichever macaron they had available Small space, but Christy made the smart decision to tell us about it outside, then proceed inside to get the sample and back outside to eat it/not be super crowded inside. This place also does coffee, if you need a pick me up. Dean & Deluca - dark chocolate lavender truffle Very good chocolate, very strong so if you're not into dark chocolate, be careful. Christy gave us time to explore Dean and Deluca's or go back to Olivia Macaron since they are right next to each other. Pie Sisters - mini chocolate bourbon pecan pie The taste is delicious, but in the mini bites, the crust to filling ratio is a little off. This is the only place I bought something, and that's because it was the last one and by the end of the tour I needed something savory/salty and their savory pies really hit the spot. I would definitely do this tour again, especially with Christy. Definitely wear comfortable walking shoes, something that you might not mind getting scuffed/dirty because, well, Georgetown streets and you never know how crowded it'll get. Remember, they say rain or shine, so be prepared to bring rain gear! Also, highly second the recommendation to bring a baggie or tupperware; even if you could eat all the samples then and there (like I did, I confess), it would be awesome to get home and two hours later be all, I wish I had some of that fudge. And hey! You put half of it in your baggie, you genius, you! Also, bring a bottle of water - chocolate and the walking will dehydrate you more than you think. read more

The organizers of Chocolate Tour of DC deserve a negative star for lack of communication and basically jerking customers around. We were using a groupon gift. I used the code to make a reservation but did not receive an email confirmation and the phone number listed was for Groupon who could not help. The web page looks convincing and there are even nice reviews of the tour. We arrived at the Old Stone House in Georgetown and after waiting for 15 minutes, used the email given to check out what was happening. After waiting another 10 minutes, we received an email that the tour had been cancelled. The Old Stone House museum guide said that this happens frequently. (Old Stone House is not affiliated with this place.) Pfffft. read more

I was actually really disappointed with the tour. I feel like the website really misrepresented the experience. The website promised a list of locations that would be visited, including Georgetown Cupcakes, and it promised 6 different tasting spots. We had 5 tastings, and we were told that we couldn't go to Georgetown Cupcakes because our guide didn't know we were coming that day. I booked this tour in March (after it being cancelled the first 2 times I booked it), so I'm not sure how 4 months notice is not enough. I also thought we were going to get to see some historical sites on the tour. The website lists a few specific landmarks and attractions. I even asked at one point what historical spots we were visiting, and our guide just danced around the subject. I thought maybe I misunderstood what tour I booked, so I let it slide. The only "historical" site we visited was a smelly, emptied out watershed path he called the Tollpath. Far from a beautiful sight... My friend and I both asked at different times how far away we were from Georgetown University. We were told it was beyond the trees, but we probably wouldn't be able to see it. Imagine my surprise when I went online after the tour to see what I had actually signed up for, and listed among the places we were supposed to see was Georgetown University. I was also surprised to see that we didn't make it to any of the historical landmarks listed on the website. I get that the way things worked out my friend and I were the only 2 in the tour group. I appreciate the experience not being cancelled for a 3rd time. But, I don't think that means that we should've received less than the experience that was listed on the site. We drove an hour and a half to do this tour, so we were really looking forward to seeing the sights. Our tour guide was very nice and pleasant. He had a great personality. Though, I was a little turned off when he told us he accepted tips within 5 minutes of meeting us. And, I learned a lot more about his vacation plans (which he put on hold to do our tour) than I did about historic Georgetown. We could tell he was making up the gameplan as he went, because some places knew to give us samples, but he paid out of pocket for snacks at 2 places. If the tour is supposed to be a guy walking you up and down a block randomly picking the places he wants to stop for a treat, than that's 100% the experience we got. But if that's the expectation, the website should be a lot more clear about what you're actually signing up for. My friend and I showed ourselves around after our tour was over, so at least it wasn't a wasted trip. I emailed the company this exact message, and I didn't even receive the courtesy of a response. Then, I got a text 2 days later from the tour guide saying he hoped we could see each other again soon. Really? I paid for a service and provided my number as part of the business transaction...not to be solicited. Not cool. Will never do business with this company again and will tell anyone who will listen (which is obviously not best tours) about this experience. read more

Unfortunately, I can't provide a review for any of the tours, because they never seem to actually happen. I received the cupcake and macaron tour for Christmas. I thought it was such a nice idea, and was so excited to go on the tour. However, I have already tried to schedule this tour and received cancelation notices three times "due to low numbers". I was understanding the first time and a little understanding the second time, but after receiving a third cancelation notice, I have no option but to admit that this is horrible customer service. Their cancelation email states "90% of our tours run on time, every time, but occasionally we have to cancel a tour." I highly doubt that is accurate based on the number of reviewers that were in the same situation as we have been. If you are traveling from out of town and will only be here for a short time, definitely do not book a tour from this company!!! read more

My mom and I did the chocolate tour this past Sunday! It was great, we enjoyed every minute! We went to 6 different places and sampled them all! (PS don't bother with the other cupcake place on the corner, Sprinkles is the best!) We had perfect weather! Enjoyed some lunch in Georgetown (Miss Saigon) and then toured The Old Stone House before our tour got started! Our tour guide was the best, her name is Christy, and I highly recommend her! She was bubbly and energetic(wear good walking shoes) and extremely knowledgeable! We just loved her! I will recommend all of our out of town guest to come take the the tour and suggest all that live in the general area to do so too! Ask when Christy is working :) read more

We went on the chocolate tour of Georgetown. Our guide was nice and everything we tasted was good to exceptional, so good marks there. Our complaints were that we got far too small samples for the amount of money paid (and that was even at the Groupon 2-for-1 price). We were expecting (especially since we were told "I hope y'all had a light lunch, since we're going to eat a lot!") a full cupcake instead of a mini, at least a few bites of pie (instead of a little nub no bigger than a mini-quiche), and maybe a sample of ice cream at the place touted as "known for its ice cream." The biggest disappointment was Godiva, which broke up a chocolate bar (that even the Godiva staff boldly pointed out "You can get this at CVS!") for samples instead of giving us a beautiful truffle from the case. If they won't up their game, I'd suggest skipping Godiva altogether and go someplace local that gives a unique sample. Overall, I'd suggest negotiating bigger samples from the businesses visited (at the same tour price). It could be good advertising for them, but not if they make themselves look like cheapskates... read more

I had booked this over a month ago for a friend. We arrived early to our tour as directed. After waiting well over an hour after the tour was scheduled to start, we gave up. The phone number the company uses is just an endless cycle of recordings. We sent an email and three hours later finally heard back that our tour was cancelled- we were supposed to have received an email. Obviously, they had failed twice. Very frustrating and basically wasted a day after planning around this event. On a positive note- we did visit some of the scheduled stops on our own, and many of them were very gracious. One in particular, Olivia Macaroon, actually gave us a free treat when they heard what happened. So, while the tour was frustrating, we did find a great new sweet shop in Georgetown! read more
