When you join the tour your guide clearly explains 2 things: 1. "This is not a historical tour and I am not a professor, so don't expect to go away with some newfound knowledge of colonial history. Rather, tonight is about the booze and the boos. So let loose, drink up, and have fun because I know I will." 2. "If you are a non-believer, don't spoil it for the rest of us with negative comments. Please don't burst our little bubbles." I was so happy that our host set the standard right off the bat with the appropriate mood and knowing what to expect. This is not the right tour for you if you are uptight, critical, or judgmental. No one likes a "negative-Nancy-know-it-all" when taking a tour, especially when it has to do with something like ghosts. Not to say that I am a believer in ghosts myself, because I don't actually know if I do or I don't; but, I also don't like a smug smarty-pants challenging the guide every 5 minutes with snarky comments. With that being said, our guide Katie (or Kate?) did an awesome job at keeping the tone of the tour fun and social with some booze and some ghostly stories thrown in. A previous reviewer said their tour ended early, ours actually ran over because we were all having such a great time with one another. We went to 4 pubs and 6 haunted locations. Overall, I think it was a great tour that I would recommend to anyone who wants to have a fun night out on the town. It is a unique alternative to just sitting in a bar on a Friday night. read more

My wife and I just moved to the area and wanted get a feel for Old Town Alexandria so we thought it would be fun to take a walking tour with Nightly Spirits. Kate was an outstanding and knowledgeable host who guided us through the streets and alleys of Old Town and regaled us with some ghostly tales. Many of us were recruited to act our the part of those who met their untimely demise, but fortunate my wife and I were spared along the way and lived to tell the tale. Each of the four stops were fun and enjoyed some fortified spirits with some lively company...unfortunately no unearthly sightings, but we will be back to explore some more. read more

Tampa, Florida I'd like to start out by saying that I am a veteran of the ghost tours, I've been on some form of a ghost tour on almost any trip that I have ever taken and this one was by far the worst one I have ever seen. Our tour guide Renee was unenthusiastic and did not encourage us to take pictures or try to get us to participate in anyway, not that we could have participated because all the ghost stories that we were being told had nothing to do with where we actually were and were all blocks away. Which leads me to the point that we didn't go anywhere haunted; what kind of haunted ghost tour doesn't take you to any place that is haunted. To make matters even worse we didn't even get our moneys worth because she cut the tour off early and left us, our tour guide ditched us on the tour that she was providing after she didn't even finish it. If anyone is thinking about doing a haunted ghost tour and is deciding between Nightly Spirits and another option DO NOT under any circumstances chose Nightly Spirits it is a waste of money and you're better off taking your business elsewhere. read more

After a terrible ghost tour experience over a decade ago, my family decided to give the nightly spirits pub crawl ghost tour in Alexandria a try and were delighted to have given this tour a chance! We had Jaimie as the wonderful Martha Washington, and she was fantastic! In addition to the ghost stories, she had a vast knowledge of the Washington family and their history as well as the history of Alexandria, which was a great addition and really added to the experience. Let me start by saying this is a great company! I am so impressed with their customer service!!! As for our tour...Washington DC tour was a bust; despite our tour guide Trevor's valiant efforts. So much was blocked off and inaccessible that it was very difficult for him to get us super involved. He was nice and the places that were accessible were great. We did get to hear some great stories, walk the capitol on a beautiful evening AND we had so much fun! THEN we were delighted to find out there was a tour in Old Town Alexandria too!!! Woohoo! NOW, since this was not the capitol and the city was not on lock down we had the best spooky time ever! Pretty disappointed in this one. I felt our tour didn't really give much info as there were only a few very short stories, two bar stops and that was it. Plus, the tour stated 2.5 hours long and ours ended at two hours. I verified with some of the other guests after the tour ended and they felt the same way. read more

Renee was our tour guide and she was absolutely amazing! I was impressed with her patience when dealing with intoxicated patrons. She told the stories true to the history rather than sugar coating them, which added the haunting variable of the tour. She was extremely knowledgeable about the topics she was talking about and made sure to interact with each guest. read more
