Yah - I like seafood as much as the next guy, but one does not live on crustaceans alone. An occasional red curry is necessary. This is a nice place with good food. It's easy to find, and parking, while not plentiful, wasn't too hard to find. You can eat outside - with or without your dog - or inside. Both are pretty and comfortable. I got a red curry with tofu, heated with three out of five peppers. For someone who likes pleasantly spicy Thai, I'd choose 3 or maybe 4 next time. The tofu was nicely fried, the sauce on the sweet side, and the veggies done perfectly. The book choy (cabbage) and green beans were tasty and crunchy. Get that. My wife got shrimp pad Thai. It was sweeter than most, which she didn't care for but I liked. Just different. The shrimps were cooked properly and about as plentiful as what we usually find in a lunch portion. The water didn't taste good. Get wine. Service was very good, a competent and friendly young girl. The store was clean and attractive. The bathroom was very clean. Nary a lobster on the menu. This place is exceptional. We were staying in Boothbay Harbor, and wanted food that had both flavor and vegetarian options. We drove up to Damariscotta just for this restaurant and we're SO GLAD we did! The food was amazing and the prices were exceptionally reasonable. Service was excellent, atmosphere is very cute and cozy, and really you just can't go wrong. We had 3 vegetarian dishes and they were all excellent. Gluten free was easy to find on the menu. The name brought us here. We wanted to see if they were right or had a bloated ego. I have to admit for a small local Thai restaurant in a small town, they certainly lived up to their name. They had a few local brews and a full bar menu. Their food menu offered a great variety of dishes and even listed the top ten items people choose. We started with the crab Rangoon, six crispy Rangoon's with a spicy sauce. We the. Had the Drunken noodles and chicken pad Thai. Both dishes were very tasty and full of flavor. Traveling from Bar Harbor to Portland and stopped at this very good Thai food place. The orange chicken and wonton soup was amazing.

In summary, the name describes it all. "Best" Thai food, coupled with good service and a great ambiance one can't ask for more!! We tried the orange and yellow curry with added chicken. The flavor was phenomenal! The quantity was generous that allowed us to experience both dishes, as we were judging which dish tasted better. The conclusion was that it was a toss . We finished the meal with coconut rice pudding. Best Thai is a great little gem, which we plan to visit more frequently. Highly recommended! read more

The tomyum seafood soup was close to perfect--the broth had a nice range of flavors, but a bit light on the punchy aromatics--perhaps more lemongrass, kaffir lime leaf and shrimp paste would have completed it. However, the seafood was poached perfectly in the passive heat of the broth--the tubes of squid were rare when served, cooked perfectly when eaten. The green lipped mussel was lush, prawn crunchy, and scallop tender and sweet. I ordered it at #4 of 5 heat. And it broke a sweat on me mid bowl. Perfect burn. The massamun curry was on the milky side but had pleasant flavor. A hit of fish sauce and more cut thai chillies would have kicked it up. Finally, the larbkai was the highlight of my meal. Ordered #4 of 5 heat again. It began a bit on the sweet side, but the presentation was exquisite, flavors punchy and vegetables crunchy. A bit more toasted rice and pungent fish sauce would have been delightful. Once again, the burn kicked on midway through the plate. I will most certainly be back, and will request that the chef let me have it as authentically as they can make it--Thai chillies, funky fish sauce, prawn paste and all. read more

We loved this place. We were starving after a full day of sightseeing and pulled over to admire this small town street and saw the sign for Best Thai. So glad we stopped in to give it a try. This was without question the best surprise we have ever had, and was the surprise just so special. The appetizers were the chicken satay and fried wontons and my word they were so sublime, the taste was so magnificent. We knew this was going to be a great meal. We had the pork fried rice and it was like we had never had it before. Perfectly arranged and with just the right amount and shaped veggies and pork, it's just so hard to describe. But it was something to remember. We were asked how we wanted our chicken Pad Thai for spice and we chose medium. We had never been asked a spice level for Pad Thai anywhere and medium sounded perfect and were we right, it was also just a perfect dish. Rebecca added in a glass of Pinot Grigio from Ecco Domani that was superb, as was the Sapporo that I had as well. Stopped by best Thai over 4th of July weekend, it was a fantastic decision! Started off with an appetizer of fried pork dumplings. They fried nicely, tasted savory and flavorful. Ordered spicy duck as my entree. I'm not the biggest duck fan, but this was calling to me. For good reason apparently. The dish had the right amount of heat at spicy level 5. The duck had a beautiful crispy outer layer while the inside was super juicy. The rice being on the side provided just the right amount to absorb all the left over sauce and juices on the plate. This is a fantastic place. The food is excellent, and the service is outstanding. My only complaint is that they leave the tails on the shrimp. It's almost impossible to get the tails off of shrimp in a curry or a stirfry. It becomes a sloppy grotesque mess with sauce all over your hands and face, and torso. In the same way that they remove the feathers from the chicken, and the fur from the beef, they should definitely remove the tails from the shrimp. No one has ever gotten a stirfry or curry dish, and then thought to themselves "Yes! I can't wait to pull all the tails off the shrimp in this soupy mess." Please do that in the kitchen where it belongs. Also, lose the green beans. No one wants green beans in their stirfry. Stick with vegetables that are good in a stir fry, like onions, peppers, broccoli, and mushrooms. Finally, I think the curry would be better if it was served with some degrees of hotness. What I got was incredibly bland, and I would've been appreciated something a little bit hotter. read more

I love Thai but the sad fact is you have to usually put up with mediocre Thai such as the places in Rockland and Camden... which are ok but NOT LIKE THIS! The Tom Yum Soup is the best I've ever had, a big portion and just delicious broth,wow, even the tofu in it was top notch. Thanks to another review here we tried the Curry Puffs which I thought would be so so, these are wonderful. And my green curry with veg... and my husband's crispy fried pad thai!!! I couldn't stop eating it. What a fantastic place, and another thing, the young boy who serves, he left me feeling good all day. So I was pretty disappointed after all the great reviews I saw here. I love Thai food and have been to quite a few places and this may be on my list of "meh..." I got the Best Thai Noodle Soup which had really no flavor at all. I ended up trying to add to it and it just didn't even help. I figured I'd try to take some to work the next day and it was just a pile of mush. For about $12 very disappointing. The Crab Rangoons were probably the best thing that I got from here. Sweet & Sour Sauce that came with them was good and went well together and there was a good amount of filling inside. Drunken Noodle was bland, about sums that up. I got it not quite as hot as normal since I was sharing this with someone who isn't too into really spicy. I was told that their medium level of spice had a descent spice to it, but he didn't even notice any spice at all. It's pricey and disappointing, I've gotten way better Thai food for half the price. read more
