Ok, so I don't want to brag too much but Reba (the owner, manager and head stylist) is amazing!!! She is super friendly, attentive and her work is absolutely impeccable. At this point, my wife, step-son and several of our friends go here... Reba's second stylist is also great; her name is Tina. I just prefer to get my hair cut by Reba. Tina has also cut my hair when Reba's not available and (to be clear) when I couldn't wait and Reba's schedule was already booked. The vibe is quiet and very professional! The website they use for scheduling is very user friendly and I've never had a problem with it... they are also very accommodating to walk-ins! I basically came here taking all reviews into account and of course because it was very close to my work. I had Tina working on my hair and she definitely knows what she is doing... I just needed a trim on my ends, and compared to my previous experience in another salon in the area, I can tell Tina work was clean and organized, plus she understood what I was looking for in regards of shape and volume. I got a cut from Reba yesterday and asked her to take a bit off and showed her photos of me and my hair from the past. She ended up taking way too much off. I had told her I was getting my haircut for engagement photos and was hoping to look nice. I didn't notice how bad the cut was because I have been growing my hair out so I just went home and once I was in better lighting and looked in the mirror it's a really bad job. It's shaggy in random places and doesn't look good no matter what I do to it. Reba was nice and all but if you can't do what someone is asking of you just say that don't fuck someone's hair up before a big event. I have enough room to buzz it and get a fade which I will be doing elsewhere as quickly as possible. I'm updating my review to report that Josephine no longer works here, which is a huge bummer since she was the one who always cut my hair and and my son's hair. That said, my husband got his hair cut by a new guy named Gregory, who works Thursday through the weekend. By far the best haircut my husband has ever gotten in eight years of marriage. He'll be going back to him from now on and might even get bold enough to try something stylish for a change now that he trusts someone with his hair. If you go to Gregory, don't be in a hurry; let him take his time and enjoy the fun conversation that is sure to follow--the dude is a talker. If I could put zero stars I would. I had the worst experience! This experience has changed my decision about being a loyal client. My husband and I have been going there for years. We used to get our hair cut by Josephine but she has since left the shop. I had decided to get my nieces hair done at Best Kuts because I enjoyed the atmosphere. Even though Josephine no longer worked there, Reba and Tina were always so kind. We walked in today and a new hairstylist welcomed us in. I told her what we wanted and she said it wouldn't look good. My niece wanted shoulder length hair and side bangs. She suggested looking at a book so we did. We still went with the shoulder length and side bangs after folding her hair up in the mirror. Then the hairstylist said it looked cute. ‍ I noticed with her first cut that it was too short. When I told her that it was too short she responded "I'm not done yet". So I let her continue. She ending up cutting my nieces her above her chin!!! My niece already had long bangs so I asked if she could slightly trim them but to keep them long. Instead she cut them way to short and super uneven. They were suppose to be side bangs but they keep moving over as straight bangs. When she was done, I noticed that one side was chunky and uneven and she had random strands that were longer. So instead of getting scissors, SHE GRABS A RAZOR! And it still wasn't even! The whole time she's trying to fix it she's blaming my nieces hair. "Oh her hair is thick", "It's because of her hair!", "it's because of her part!" Then she tells me, "It will grow back". If you cut it the length she wanted then we wouldn't have to worry about it growing back! She needs to stop making excuses and just admit that she messed up! I just gave up and told her I would go somewhere else to get it fixed. Then she charges me $20. Kid haircuts are $15! When I asked her about it she moves the pen stand over the pricing and says, "Well, I blow dried her hair". I didn't ask her to blow dry her hair. Then she responded "well, I needed to blow dry her hair to fix and make sure it was right". So she charged me $5 for trying to fix her mistakes! I told her I have never been charged for blow drying my hair at the end. I will NEVER come back here because of her. I was so upset I didn't even get her name. But I'll post a picture so you can steer clear of her. Over a year ago: Things have sure changed! Everyone is so friendly. The location is great where we live. They are very skillful and remember when you call or walk-in. After every service they finish you off with a massage. My husband and I go to Josephine. Tina has cut my unruly curly hair and did an amazing job. Then I wanted to fix my brassy red hair that I messed up plus deal with gray hair. Tina worked her magic and artistic talent. Not only was the red gone, but my highlights look fantastic. I've never had color that I loved so much. She is truly a salon artist working with color like an artist that creates artwork would do. She listened, recommended and worked on my hair until it looked fabulous, giving me tips and advice all along with a great and positive attitude. I am horrible - I cheated on my beloved! Okay... here was the situation: Last minute business trip (like tomorrrow!) and I was 3 days out from my usual visit to get my 'fro tightened (hair cut). My usual go-to (the aforementioned beloved) was too far away (cuz Austin afternoon traffic is nothing to mess with), so I was left to scramble..... On my way to work that morning (where I found out about the last minute trip), I passed by Best Kuts and thought... I might need to Yelp this... but work got in the way (of course). So I panicked and drove to Best Kuts PRAYING (after being sent away from one place that I thought could help) that they could do something with my fro.... I really should not have worried. The place was dead (great for me!!) and Tina was working the chair (even better for me!). I asked if she could cut my hair (the other place I found close to work could not - even though the same suggested it...) She sat me down, cut my hair, massaged me (with this big arsed machine), and recut my hair (I wanted it lower) all within 15 minutes and cheaper than expected; and my beloved (even with tip!) If my beloved barber shop is reading this... it's not you, it me... I mean we can be friends, and I will see you around, but Best Kuts may have stolen my heart away... This place had been one of my favorite places to go to each month. It was someplace I could go without my kid and spend an hour having someone take care of me. Sounds like a lot to expect from a hair cut salon but that's the environment they had created. I have gone there for 18 months now and watched it grow. However, today that all ended. I had my appointment scheduled with my stylist Tina for 3:00. I arrived at 2:55. I could see that Tina was still with the previous client. No worries, usually. 15 minutes passed then 20 and still Tina hadn't even acknowledged that I was there for our appointment let alone that she was running late. It wasn't like she couldn't see me as I was in the chair 3 feet from her. Finally I spoke to her and the response was , she forgot about me. Then that she would still be a while and last she wasn't even apologetic about it. It simply didn't matter to her. I had seen this happen to others before at this salon but never paid much attention. What I've realized is that they have become so busy that they no longer actually care about the clients they have and the ones that helped build the business. If you are just looking for a haircut and nothing more than this place will suffice. If you are looking for a stylist and a salon that will get to know you and the look you want, then go elsewhere. I was a walk-in late in the day. No Problem. Cut my hair just as I asked, enjoyed a drink while getting my haircut and had a relaxing massage afterward, which really took away the stress of the day. Worst "Kut" of my life... I found this place because it is super convenient to where I live and thought I would give it a try being new to the area. The first time I went I walked in and immediately sat down to get my haircut with Eric. He took his time and gave me a razor cut that he went on and on about how great this technique was. He seemed awkward, but after a few requests for more blending on my part I walked away with a decent haircut. It seemed a great value for $15 so when it was time for my next cut I called to make an appointment. Apparently Eric only takes walk-ins. So I went in on a day and time he was supposed to be there and waited well over an hour because he showed up late. I must have been so preoccupied at this point and wasn't paying close enough attention. Once he styled my hair I put my glasses back on and yup- it looks good- thanks- and I was on my way. Moments later I absent mindedly ran my fingers through my hair and something was VERY off. The right side of my hair is more than an inch longer than the left and extremely noticeable. There are patches on the sides and back that are not blended at all, lengths going from 1/4" to 2" without any blending. This is worse than any amateur haircut I can imagine, it's like Helen Keller cut my hair. I thought about going back and giving Eric the benefit of the doubt, after all, I walked away saying "thanks" thinking it looked good but during my first visit he told me about someone that came back because they didn't like their haircut and "how dare they". Not really something anyone should be telling a customer. He is extremely awkward under normal circumstances I can't imagine what he would be like during confrontation. I'm not sure what's up with the negative reviews on here but I had a great experience here. I've passed by this place multiple times but never cared to stop. I'm a young college aged guy so I don't need anything out of this world, however, I can appreciate a good stylist at a good salon. I went in and was quite surprised! I ended up working with Tina, who I would definitely recommend. I've been wanting to change my style and do a clean cut, contemporary style mo-hawk cut and she did an amazing job. We even discussed the possibility of coming back later down the road to add some color. The place was clean, stylish, had a great vibe, and the staff was very friendly...and HEY...they even have complimentary wine, beer, and coffee! All in all I had a great experience! True story, proceed with caution...‍ The Salon * First & last appt booked Fri. 6/16/17 * Despite ads/pics online, in person, Best Kuts is less of a Toni&Guy; and more so a bonafide barbershop (plus kinda hot and stuffy on my visit). Something to consider if your used to a certain atmosphere in your beauty appts. The Stylists * I didn't memorize names, but all three people present during my visit were collectively unprofessional. * My stylist (who appeared to be of some Asian descent) rushed my appt. She had no quality in her work. More preoccupied with getting paid then listening/working with her client. In the end, my hair looked like a mop head made of hay..... * The "mediator" (who I believe was named Tina) tried to tell me; that my quoted price for the desired look on my texture; was a STEAL. That in REALITY; I should really be happy with the result. * The OWNER; probably felt that the calm and civil exchange between me and the other two stylists made the shop look bad. So she decides to take it upon herself to make her shop look worse. She leaves the only witness in the salon at the time (her own client) sitting idly to start harassing and yelling at me and the stylists. The Resolve * Similarly to my Pinup Hair Salon experience, this shop has no manager (zero quality control). Something else to consider. If you have a bad service there's no one to mediate or take accountability apart from the stylist. (Though Pinup did have enough tact to "make it on the house" when they knew they f'd up). * On my way out; once everyone was in agreement that I wasn't paying to look like the scarecrow, the OWNER eloquently adds "AND DON'T COME BACK YA HEAR!" . In her defense, she probably assumed I grabbed a business card to plan my next appt/for referrals.. NICE, nice, good service, they offer you beer or wine but no COFFEE!! Sad:( Clean, stylish cute place. The owner is very friendly and professional, they use good quality products on you. After your haircut or styling they offer you a massage (2 minutes) it feels good... Maybe some of the other stylist could use some HR or HPO to make the business more friendlier and inviting. The atmosphere is relaxing and the stylists are friendly and helpful. They do men's and women's hair, as well as coloring and other services. Personally, I like the fact that this place is small and simple and that makes it really comfortable to those of us who aren't there for the full salon experience (i.e. - most guys). I love this neighborhood salon. The small staff are all incredibly friendly. They always offer me a glass of ice water, wine, or a cold beer when I enter. But it's the personal touches I like best... After the haircut, they give you a hot towel on the neck, shave your neck with hot foam and a real straight razor, then give a short back massage and back scratch. After reading the reviews I was disturbed...... But noticed they were two years old... I've been taking my son to see Eric for over two years. I've never had any problems. My son and I have had to wait a couple times and I blame that on myself for not making an appointment. To me, the wait was worth it. My son enjoys Eric very much, and Eric styles his hair the exact way I like it every time. Even though I get the same cut on my son, Eric always asked me what I would like on him. Love the customer service..... My best friend was my stylist for many years. I loved her, but was never able to walk in. I always had to book my appointments for several weeks out, because she was so booked. One Sunday after service I wanted a change, and know I couldn't call my friend cause by the time I would have seen her I would have changed my mind on change I wanted. So I walked in to Best Kuts on a Sunday afternoon and met a wonderful woman named Tina. Told her I wanted a change. She had no problem getting me in right then. At that moment I wanted a cut and caramel highlights. I cut over 8' off my hair and did partial highlights. After hours of foils and being under the dryer I was very satisfied with the overall appearance. I loved it, and so did everyone else that I knew. Months later, I called to make an appointment for touch up and to do highlights on my sister. Without any problems they got us in at the last min. This time I chose to do blonde highlights, and I want you to know that it wasn't easy, I had color in my hair already and it was dark. As I was with Tina I put my sister with Reba. Reba did a phenomenal job on my sister's hair and as usual Tina did an excellent job on mine. Everyone there is very friendly they offer complimentary coffee, beer and wine. It's a very positive and up-beat place to go...... I'm moving out of state by the end of the year... It breaks my heart but everyone knows it almost feel like a lifetime to find a stylist that you just love. You refuse to let anyone touch your hair and that's exactly how I feel.
