I had an older LG TV and mount and had purchased an OLED and mount from Amazon. Getting an removal/installation appointment with Geek Squad (Pleasant Hill, CA) was easy with their online appointment system. I could have reserved a time two days in the future but opted for 5 days because of some other obligations. Originally the timeslot was from 12-8pm but two days before they narrowed it to 12-4pm. The installer, Melvin, and his associate (Feydeen?) called the night before to verify the appointment and then again the next day when they were about 10 minutes away. They were great! They wore masks the entire time and were very friendly and helpful. They made sure they understood what I wanted done and got my input as to placement of the new TV. They took great care in measuring and installing the mount and the TV, thoroughly testing the installation to make sure it worked properly. They showed me how to adjust the TV and mount. AND!!! They took all the boxes and styrofoam (yuck!) in addition to the old TV, remote and mount. They were like having a combination of Naomi Nagata, Amos Burton & 1-800-Got-Junk! read more

Charged me $180 membership to fix my camera on my laptop in order to work on it. What? Okay. Whatever. They then erased my OS and deleted all my apps and files and didn't fix my camera. Did they mention this before I drove down to pick it up? Nope. When I picked it up, I asked for refund and expressed my upset since not only did they not fix my problem, but now I had to reinstall a ton of stuff and fix a bunch of things that weren't broken. Two trips, two times waiting in line even though an appointment was scheduled and my problem wasn't fixed. They said I had to call a number to request a refund to my "membership". Horrible service. I'm out $180 and my computer is in worse shape than when I brought it in. read more

Pierro was OUTSTANDING! The person who met me was Courteous and Pierro was very knowledgeable and resolved my problem.

I have lost complete confidence in the Geek Squad. And here is why. Recently my Dell desktop was hit by a virus. Shame on me for not updating my Norton, but it happens. Best Buy is just a few miles from me and seemed like it would be an easy fix. I dropped my computer off and was told it would cost me $199 to diagnose the problem and remove the virus. Seems rather steep, but it did include a copy of Norton so I just went with it. Again, it was just the connivence factor that had me sold. About a week later I received a call from one of their technicians and was told that they were not able to boot my Dell back to Windows and that they were going to have to reformat my hard drive. Ok, this sort of thing happens. But before wiping out my hard drive could they save my data? Sure they could. For an additional $170! I told them not to touch my computer and I would come pick it up. It took me less than 20 minutes to connect my Dell to my other computer and click and drag all my files into my external hard drive. Then I reformatted the hard drive myself. For $199 I received a copy of Norton and one year of tech support. But I can tell you that I will not even bother utilizing their tech services. read more

My previous review of 4 stars has been removed bc of the recent experiences I have had to deal with lately. First off, my home theater system was installed with the wires hanging out. He said he would be back that day to finish the job, but he never came. I also tip generously so not sure what happened there. So I waited patiently - 3 months to be exact. Also, items were taken back to the store to get a refund and I never received my refund. Appointments are a joke. I have never received a call the day prior to confirm the time range.... I always have to call them. Lessons learned - I should keep track of the inventory that Magnolia recommended to buy and keep track what was used. To top that off, my rewardsZone wasn't even credited for all the purchases I made. Sucks to be me. read more

The folks at this shop are incompetent in regards to Samsung repairs. Do not waste your time. Had my z fold 3 for weeks, ordered wrong parts for a screen replacement twice,.and ended up not being able to do the repairs of a basic cracked factory screen cover. In the end gave me my phone back in a compromised position with no covers on inside or outside screens. Also completely unresponsive. I had to go into the shop multiple times just to pull a status out of them. read more

My brother thinks they are great about replacing stuff on his computer when it failed (but it took them several tries before they figure out what's wrong) ... Fast forward to myself. Bought a computer from Best Buy with their extended warranty. Took it in a few months later because it only charges itself sometimes, but not all the time. The power cable had to be just right before it'll work. So, I took it to the geek squad to look at. They were able to duplicate the problem even though I thought I only needed a new power cable. They told me that they'll probably want to look at the logic board too, just to be sure. So I waited 3 weeks without my computer before it was ready again. I went to the store and they told me that they couldn't find anything wrong with it and tried to send me on my way WITHOUT my power cable (new or my old one). When I asked for it back, the fat geek guy told me that they never take power cables and it wasn't on their paperwork that it was sent. When I tried to explain that the power cable was the problem and that I needed a new one from them, he just told me that it wasn't on their paperwork and walked away. I really do not appreciate how he implied that I was lying and trying to con him out of a power cable (I wasn't). I don't see the justification for his actions. Even if I didn't give him the cable (which I did), they are still supposed to give me a new one since that was the part that was busted to begin with. The skinny geek guy sort of came to my rescue and found me a power cable from the back (not my original one, but it works) and told me that it'll tie me over until I receive my new one that they were going to send. It's now been at least two months since then. I still have not received my new power cable. Not that I expect them to be that efficient anyway. Very disappointed with their follow through and even more so with the fat geek's customer service To be without my computer for 3 weeks and to pick up less than what I started out with and to be accused that I was lying is unacceptable. read more

If you want to just drop off equipment for repair, forget about it . If you don't have an appointment you can't anymore. I've got a Lenovo laptop they've repaired 3 or 4 times by simply waiting in line and having a tech fill out a form for repair. That's no longer a viable option as you've got to have an appointment because if they are booked, it could be hours or days before you can have somebody just check it in. They say you can drop it off without an appointment, but the fact is you can't. When I made that point to the manager ,I was told well you can't just walk in and see a Dr without an appointment can you? Hey,you're not a doctor ,you're a $12 buck an hour tech! Pathetic. read more

So hard to know how to rate them. First of all, they are unbelievably patient. I was there, as were 2 elderly couples, each being attended to by their own advisor. All 3 parties were still being helped 75 minutes later. I'm not kidding. Now, I feel my issue should have taken maybe 30 minutes but just the input into their laptop of the repair to a) sync with Apple and b) see if they had the battery took 41 minutes. That was bizarre. Then for my issue the patient young man had to chat with Apple to get approval to not charge me for the repair (because the phone itself told me go get it fixed as did the diagnostic). That chat thread took another 20 minutes. Meanwhile one of the elderly couples was struggling with an e-mail password and their advisor stuck with them the whole time. Anyway, you get the idea: limitless patience. So I'm equivocal about the rating because their systems are so slow, and in the end I had to leave my phone there, come back 4 hours later, leave it overnight, talk to AppleCare from home for 30 minutes that night, return to BestBuy 10am, be handed my working phone, then return a 4th time because they'd forgot to calibrate something before handing me my phone. The manager was moderately helpful today on that 4th visit but at first tried to tell me that they couldn't complete the task. After I explained that AppleCare rep had assured me on the phone that all obstacles had been removed, my phone was fixed in 10-15 minutes. read more

This is a review for the Geek Squad that is based in the San Carlos Best Buy... All I needed done to my laptop was for it to be de virused and some software loaded in... To get de virused they charged $199!!! To install the software another $150...total bill $361 WTF?? I asked why so high and they said they are in demand... Yeah they quoted me 5-6 days for it to get done...it took 2 weeks!!! They also NEVER answer the phone when you call in to find out the status of your repair, and they say they'll call you when it's done and the NEVER did....horrible customer service. The lcd panel on my phone was damaged & they will replace your screen for free under warranty.

Gonna start this off by saying that when my issues were finally resolved, it was thanks to the great management team at the Best Buy in San Carlos, who finally helped me sort out the issue, and rectify the problem. This review is for Geek Squad, who's "help" and "customer service" were absolutely miserable. Took me about 8 weeks to get a TV swapped out, that I had a full warranty on. The geek squad scheduling, and actual technicians apparently on 3 different occasions mis communicated with eachother, which lead to my appointments either being cancelled (with no call to reschedule), or with the technician going to a wrong address which I never provided them! When speaking to a manager at the customer support line, he literally wouldn't even hear my problem out without telling me there is nothing I can do, and probably just need to buy a new tv?!?!? Terrible experience..... read more

Be very careful using Geek Squad or trying to schedule a service. - 3 scheduled appointments, 2 no shows, no installation, no refund. You will spend hours on the phone getting transferred from department to department. If there is trouble with a service, no one will help you resolve it. They just keep transferring you to new departments until you give up. We paid $129 up front. I had service scheduled on 8-28-2013 the tech, Wes, called to say his car was broken down. he never rescheduled 9-9-2013 the tech called to say he didn't know how to do the service 9-22-2013 the teach, Tom, showed up and said he couldn't do the work without a quote and that he couldn't get a quote today because his supervisors don't work on Sunday We called the supervisor at the Store, Zia, and he was not able to help get us someone to do the work today read more

The Geek Squad are useless. They are supposed to fix computers but do not have all the tools of a computer repair shop. They needed to run a diagnostic on my computer but couldn't get my CDROM drive to work. So their solution to me was "my cd rom wasn't working so they couldn't run diagnostics." They gave my computer back to me with nothing resolved. I asked why don't they try to fix the CDROM drive and they said they couldn't because they don't have the parts but can send it out to their service center, which would take 2-3 weeks for it to come back. I suggest going to a local computer repair shop instead of this over-marketed Geek Squad. read more

Terrible for tv repair! First off, the "tech" didn't even take off the back of the tv to test components. He just called his supervisor(?) and repeated what I told him was happening with the tv. Supervisor told him it was the main board. Main board ordered. Same tech came out to install main board. He wasn't provided the necessary software to complete the installation. I had to provide it. Leaves my house for 3 hours to go install a dishwasher. Comes back only to determine the new part is faulty. Orders another main board. Doesn't show up at the appointed time. I receive a call 15 minutes before the outside of the appointment window from Geek Squad scheduling saying they have to reschedule because no one can find the part. Found a real tv repairman who fixed my tv! Geek Squad waisted 3 days of my life! read more

My computer crashed and I brought it in to Best Buy's Geek Squad. They charge so much for just a diagnosis to find out what's wrong with the computer. On top of that, they told me I would get the computer back within 1 or 2 days but a week passed with no word or call back. I tried to call them several times during that week and I would be put on hold or they would say that no one could take my call and they would call me back. Needless to say, I never got a call back. I work from home on the computer that crashed so I lost a week's work. I finally got fed up, personally drove down to Best Buy as they were not taking any calls, and got my computer back with no fixes or diagnosis even after a week. As I was in line, the lady behind me told me she had the same experience that's why she decided to drive down as well. I took it across the street to Able Computer Repair and had a great experience working with Jerry over there. Jerry's prices were almost half what the Geek Squad was charging AND he got the job done within an hour. He told me he can't figure out what would take the Geek Squad a week to do what he did. read more

Wow, the reviews here are crazy bad...I actually have had good experiences with Geek Squad. They have efficiently and quickly fixed 2 of my laptops and one other desktop computer issue. They have professionally and quickly done a home visit and solved the problem on the first visit. The only complaint I have is that the line is sometimes long to talk to someone when you are in the store. Oh well, it happens. All in all they've been great through my computer disasters that have happened. They've been polite, on time with repairs, and most of all I haven't had to go back for the same issue. Thanks Geek Squad! read more

Called them about ten days ago and gave them all pertinent info about my TV. I had an appointment booked for tomorrow and was so looking forward to prospect of PERHAPS getting my tv repaired. Then they called tonight, the night before, and asked me for the same info I'd furnished on the original call and informed me that my TV was too old to repair. I suppose I should be happy I didn't get hit with the 99 dollar charge to even come here but I'm just angry with them for their lack of professionalism. How Best Buy shares any affiliation with them is more than I can understand. They are ridiculous. read more

For computer repair...Run for your life! Or at least for your data! Went there with a hard drive crash, to see if they could get the thing turned on, or retrieve my data. Turns out after paying hundreds of dollars, I'm told they could only get a very limited amount of data. WHAT DATA you ask? A Schizophrenic view of various PIECES and PARTS of random software, nothing that made any sense. NO real data. I asked for specific data...not a shard from a broken mirror that went to nothing! Not surprisingly, much of that data, the parts they did not screw up, was later recovered by my BROTHER, with limited resources. So why couldn't they pull this same stuff off?! Because, as my brother put it, they aren't called geeks because they actually know anything! Ever hear of playing doctor, well this is a new one..."playing tech" or is it just "taking cash for clunker service!" But hey, they did sell me a huge storage device for "all that schizoid data" that 1. could fit on a camera storage device and 2. was absolutely worthless. Mr. tweaked geeker , and the manager, gave the absolute worst customer service possible, service with a whopping plate of stinking attitude! But Best Buy got their money, and isn't that what it's all about! read more

This review has to do with their washer/dryer warranty service. We purchased a new washer and dryer from them last year and purchased their warranty plan. First time they scheduled a date to come out and repair our dryer, they not only failed to come out they also didn't bother to call to let us know that they weren't coming in the 6 hour window they gave us. The second attempt wasn't for an entire week! When the repair man finally showed up 2 hours outside the appointment widow, it only took 1 minute for him to tell us that the part would have to be order and that it would be two more weeks..... two weeks pass the dryer is finally fixed, for a whole two days, and now they are telling us that they wont be able to come back for two weeks after I explained to them how long we have been without a dryer. it clear as day that they simply don't care about customer service, i was not at all surprise that the rating for them is so low. my advice is don't bother purchasing a washer or dryer from them if you want to have some sort of maintenance service. read more

I despise the Geek Squad. They are entirely inept and I will never, ever, ever, patronize them again. This is based on my experience with the "Squad" in San Carlos. I dropped my computer off for fixing on July 29, having described that it had been crashing and that Chrome would not work. They said they would call when they had resolved the problems. I called on August 19 and learned that it was ready. I made my way to the Best Buy, checked in and waited 20 minutes for my name to be called. It never was, so I returned to the counter, only to find that I never made it into the system. I was then presented with my "fixed" computer. Not fixed. Chrome had the exact same issues as when I presented it on July 29. I was told to wait while a technician looked at it. I waited, and waited, and finally asked that they call me when they have finally fixed it. They took my number, again and I left, swearing loudly. Yesterday, August 20, I called to see what the status was. One of the Geeks said all the Geeks were busy and that I would be called back as soon as a Geek was free. I said okay. Ten minutes later, I called and received the same reply. 20 minutes later I called only to find that a Geek was available to help. This Geek tried to tell me that they had fixed the problem as I had described it originally - unable to open Chrome. It could be opened. I noted that, yes, it could be opened but was absolutely unable to be used so what's the difference. He went ahead and fixed the problem WHILE WE WERE ON THE PHONE!!! What the @#$ ? I am most seriously displeased. read more

I have to add my recent experience here. You pay $$$ weeks in advance ( not a good idea) and the " technician " did not complete the install. My wife is now doubly upset! The TV-AV-Infinity cable system is still not working AND I wasted $150.00. Find another install service. I'm still waiting for someone to complete this job. Most frustrating- they are almost impossible to reach. Customer service is the worst I've experienced in years. Best Buy store in San Carlos is a good store overall. Just this horrible " Geek Squad" is a scam, don't use them!!! "Best Buy" maybe, Geek Squad = nightmare! read more

I order the cable and make another appointment. 2nd appointment, they tell me they can install an upgraded version where i can use the buttons on my factory radio unit and I won't need the special cable. If I could offer no stars this review would be more appropriate. I sent my computer to be fixed on June 1st. The contract read it would be ready by June 18th. When I did not hear any status update by the 18th my frustrations began. At first they said they would get an update in a day or two, when two days passed I was told that the computer was sent to their service center on the 10th. (So the computer sat in their store for 10 days) WHY? Apparently they did not have the correct packaging material. When I called again for an update on the 19th the store said they had not heard back from their service center. After calling the service center it turned out they still did not recieve the computer! The computer was eventually sent on the 21st - and still no update no communication. Between my husband and I we have called either the service center or the store site at least 10 times and only once have they returned our calls. Its now July 2nd and still no computer - its "somewhere in transit". Do not trust any manager at that store - they are grossly incompetent. NEVER NEVER give you computer to the Geek Squad! read more

Geek Squad Review I took my PC, an HP (purchased from Best Buy 3 years ago) to the Geek Squad, on Friday, August 10, because it had issues playing music or anything else coming from the speakers. When listening to You Tube, iTunes or CD's it would skip or shutter. Also it was slow when typing. You'd type a word and only 1 or 2 letters would show and then in a few seconds the others would appear. Got fed up so I took it to the Geek Squad in San Carlos as it's only 4 blocks from my home. We set it up on the customer service bench and I showed him the typing time lapse and then the music or sound problems, and he wrote down the symptoms on the invoice for the techs. He said they allow themselves 7 to 10 days to fix but it usually is faster, maybe a few days. What to do, I can't fix it so okay fine, lets just do it and get it done! 1) First off I was told it would cost $75 dollars to look at it but for $199 I could get a years warranty and diagnose the problems and fix them. I bought it because they are close, don't know of anywhere else to go, and they should be reliable and accountable? 2) Next came the "we could loose all your data so we recommend you back up your drive in case it crashes or we can do it for $60 labor and $70 for the back up hard drive. 3) Next they recommended their Anti Virus and it was only $2 (just the cost of the tax). So now I've paid $335.77 Had to sign a bunch of papers, and was told because they had to check files after backing it up, if anything was found illegal on the PC they'd turn it in to the police or government? Today is Friday, August 17, because they have not contacted me I thought I'd call for status. It appears they started working on it and a person is supposed to call me back tonight at 6:00PM. Got my 6:00PM call back, "on time" and I spoke with a person who was working on the PC. I again described the 2 problems, 1) the typed letters of words being slow to appear on screen when typing and 2) the sound skip or shutter. He said he would be working on it and probably be done tonight. I should call tomorrow, Saturday for status. Saturday, August 18, 2012. Called in around 10:30am for status. The person who answered said he has it in front of him and sees they did some stuff last night. He goes to turn it on and it "DOES NOT BOOT UP"! He then says he'll give it to his lead tech as soon as he gets in. Beginning to believe this is a waste of time and wished I knew of somewhere else I could of taken it! Called them around 3:30pm and they said it was ready. So I got in the car and proceeded to drive there. When I got there I thought about what the Geek Guy said about if they find anything illegal on it they'd call the cops or the government. So after getting out of the car, I was looking for Secret Service Cars, FBI Cars, Men in Black Cars, Sheriffs or Cop Cars. Hum, I was starting to wonder if I had anything illegal, immoral or against the government on the dam thing. Ah, to hell with it, I could use a good 10 year vacation in an 8 X10 cell. So I went in, waited in long line and finally got up to the counter. The guy put it on the customer service counter, turned it on, used it a bit, and "IT'S FIXED"! I am happy it's fixed, but it did cost $335.77. I probably should not have had them do a backup or purchased the hard drive backup unit they prescribed as I'm not happy with it because it does not do automatic backups, you have to click and paste over to it? Yeah, I don't get it either, but there is no software with it, it just shows up as another drive. So, that's my encounter and in the end I got what I wanted, "A FIXED COMPUTER". Turns out it was some corrupted driver! I guess I cannot complain on the time frame as they said 7 to 10 days, and they did give me the option of taking the computer home and backing it up myself or having them do it. read more

The service was horrible! I started Dec 27th with a minor TV problem. The first fix didn't work, which was understandable. But then they didn't return my call and didn't show up for the next appointment. Then they offered two weeks out but said a field supervisor would call and schedule earlier. He emailed but then never returned my email with time options. So I called and they again offered two weeks out and a field supervisor. I'm totally done with the Geeks. read more

I brought my camera to get fixed at Geek Squad mid August as it stopped working and would not turn on. The Geek Squad staff took my camera, shipped it to the manufacturer to get fixed. I tracked my camera using the Geek Squad tracking system and watched it go from "Shipped" to "Received at repair service center" to "repair has been assigned to an agent" to "hooray! We have completed work on your device. Stay tuned - we will let you know when you can expect to have it back in your hands" to " Repair is Complete - Shipped". I worked from home as I was expecting the camera to get shipped to my house, only to get a phone call from this Geek Squad team stating that the camera was shipped back to San Carlos Best Buy unrepaired. Not only had I been lead on for 3 weeks, but this team should have never sent it to the manufacturer in the first place because they couldn't even service it. After 4 phone call attempts to talk to someone at the San Carlos location, I finally got someone to speak to me and they notified me that there is nothing they can do other than come and pick it up. Additionally, my camera was purchased 90 days before I brought it to Geek Squad, and I only get 90 days under warranty with the manufacturer. Now it has passed the 90 day period, and my camera will no longer be serviced by the manufacturer. I basically got screwed out of this camera ever getting fixed - and I bought it brand new in May. I refuse to use Geek Squad ever again and I also advise no one to use their services. Thanks a lot for wasting my time and money! read more
