Going to get a tire repaired. This is the office/waiting area.
Robert A.

A couple of weeks ago my tire pressure indicator came on indicating one or more of the tires on my 2017 Subaru Forester had low pressure. This was strange because I had inflated all four of my tires to around 31 PSI just a week before that. The driver's side rear tire had been especially low at 25 PSI. When I went to inflate my tires again, it was the same driver's side rear tire that had dropped to around 24 PSI. Obviously, I was having a leak. So I pulled out my trusty Yelp app and found Economy Tire & Service. It was rated 5 stars. The reviews raved about it. It was owned by a husband and wife team that had been in the same location for 10 years and were considered very honest. Good enough. I drove over to this place which was literally right around the corner from me. When I went there, I was met by a very friendly father and son team. They entered my information into the computer system and said they would be able to look at my tire almost immediately. So far so good. I sat in the waiting area and engaged the father in some conversation. It turned out that he had purchased Economy Tire & Service from Lisa and the other co-owner less than two weeks before. So the first thing to know is that most of the prior reviews on Yelp for Economy Tire & Service were under the old owners. Okay, no big deal. Both the father and son seemed honest. Eventually, the father came back out and said they could not find any hole in the tire or anything that might have caused a puncture. He told me that sometimes when leaks are pretty slow, you can only find them when there is weight on the tires (they had my car up on a lift). So I asked him what my options were. He said I would likely have to purchase a new tire. I asked whether I could only purchase one or whether I would need to replace both back tires. He said that usually they recommend replacing both. He then said he would go back and check the wear on all my tires and recommend a course of action. So I waited some more. Eventually, he came back and said the treads on all four of my tires were 5/32 inches. He said the recommended tread depth for my tires was between 4/32 and 10/32 (I may be slightly off on the second number). He said I was right on the border of needing four new tires. I told him I thought that was kind of odd because my car only had 25,000 miles on it and I thought most tires were rated for quite a bit more than that. I asked him how much it would cost and he started pricing possible different replacement tires. He said I currently had Yokohama tires and those were $250 per tire to replace (they were original on the car). I then asked him how many miles those tires were rated for and he said the system didn't have that information. Okay, I then asked what sort of cheaper options there were. He priced some other tires and they ranged but around $150 per tire was about average. Interestingly, he was able to tell me the mileage rating on those possible replacements but not on the Yokohamas. So, I told the father that I would have to think about it before buying four new tires. He then said he would go check one more time with his mechanic to see if they could find the source of the leak. I waited literally less than three minutes when, lo and behold, I received glad tidings. A nail had been found in the driver's side rear tire. He took me into the shop and personally showed me the nail. Now the hole could simply be patched (a $20 fix) and the decision to buy four new tires could be delayed. Wait, there's more to the story. I was a little concerned that my tires might be so low on tread with just 25,000 miles on them. Fortunately, a friend of mine at my gym is a top notch mechanic. I asked him to look at my tires. He took one look at them and said I had plenty of tread left. Something I didn't know which he pointed out to me is that tires often have tread wear indicators that are spaced evenly through the main grooves in the tire tread. If they are flush with the level of the tread, then the tire must be replaced. He pointed out that the treads on my car were well above the wear indicators. In summary, Economy Tire & Service was owned by the same family for years but was recently bought out so is under new management. I came in to have a leak found and fixed. Initially, the leak couldn't be found and I was told I needed two new tires. Next I was told the tread on all four of my tires was low and I needed all tires replaced. When I balked at buying four new tires, all of a sudden a nail was found in the afflicted tire which could now be patched. Since my car only has 25,000 miles on it, I asked a mechanic friend of mine to look at my tires and he said I actually had plenty of tread left (the treads were well above the tread wear indicators). Therefore, due to the recent change of ownership and, in my opinion, the obvious upsell attempt, I will not be returning to Economy Tire & Service.

BEST AUTO ECONOMY & TIRE (The sign says "ECONOMY") http://www.economytiresdelray.com (561) 921-0225 220 N Congress Ave Delray Beach, FL 33445 OPEN ON SUNDAYS! (but not Saturday). Gideon and Yakir and "The Best." And a great sense of humor! I took my car to another repair shop right down the street from Best. They quoted me $1000 for an AC condenser and compressor and $950 for Brake pads and rotors. They told me I needed new tires. I asked them to check it out to see if things were worth fixing on my KIA, and they said it was all good except for those items. Gideon at Best did the brakes for $700. He asked if the AC was running (Yes), and he said to wait till it goes out. He told me that tires weren't necessary yet. But he did check the oil which badly needed changes. The other guys, who supposedly checked it over (two weeks before), obviously didn't check the oil (which is kind of important). I hesitated to write this for the same reason when people find a great restaurant, they want to keep it to themselves so it won't be so popular they can't get a table. That's how good these dudes are.

Who else "loves" buying tires? All I can say is Economy Tire of Delray made it a really simple process. Not only was the price all inclusive but the experience was pleasant. They didn't have my size tire on hand but ordered them for me and they were waiting for me when I arrived. My appointment was at 10:30 am and I was back on the road 35 min later. What a pleasure. Give them a call next time you need a miner service of tires. This was my first experience but won't be my last!

The estimate was beyond fair and the owner was thoughtful and kind. My mother had just passed, so my ability to find time to bring my car in was limited. He graciously accommodated me and had me out of the garage in an hour. As other reviewers online have noted, the waiting room is immaculate and they offer snacks and WiFi while you wait. When he was finished, he recommended an additional service that wasn't needed imminently, but one to keep in mind for the not-so-distant future given the mileage on my car. This will now be my go-to mechanic to help keep my old jalopy up and running.

The job he did was incredible and my nephews (4 &6) were able to sit in the lounge comfortable and with all type of snacks while the job was completed in 30m. Besides that Max also did a full assessment of my vehicle for potential issues (for free) and i learned so much from him. I appreciate Max because every time my vehicle is serviced at the dealer I feel that the repairs may come out to a million dollars. Max is very reasonable and helpful and we'll continue to work together.
