Read all of the negative reviews. We should have before picking this place. My elderly father took his old 94 vehicle in because he has a check engine light. We have had issues with the age of his car at other places so when he dropped it off at Best Auto my sister called the shop to ask some simple clarifying questions. Nothing rude or confrontational, just basic knowledge seeking. The owner answered the questions, with an extreme accent that made it difficult, then apparently after he hung up he pulled my dad's car back out and, rudely, told him to take it back because "it wasn't worth it." What wasn't worth it? That he had to answer some questions? That he wasn't able to rip my elderly father off knowing other people are involved? Was it because it was a woman that called? Which part was egregious? If a shop can't answer basic questions then they don't deserve any business. Other people have filed complaints with BAR as well. He should be removed from the list with this kind of history. Red flags everywhere. read more

I took my car in to be smog checked and am overall happy with my experience. The woman at the counter was very nice and inviting. I was in and out within 15 mins. The price was very fair. After I paid and had my keys returned, the mechanic told me of a few non-pressing mechanical problems my car may have soon that he saw when he opened my hood. This guy was so rude to my disabled son. He didn't know how to a simple job. He was just supposed to inspect the drum brakes on my car and he couldn't get the drums off. He really don't know how to inspect lights and brakes. I waited two hours for a simple job and he still wanted me to come back on Monday and he wanted to sign a damage waiver to break the star adjuster and I know for a fact that you can adjust the star from the back port and he didn't seem to know that at all. Again, he made me wait TWO HOURS on a Saturday and after all that took another client before me. I've never complained like this, but this guy (Tony) had no idea what he was doing. I know this is a easy procure because I am a mechanic with AA degree in Automotive. I will never take it to this guy ever again. you're completely off base with your reply. i spoke with the b.a.r. agent about your misinterpretation of smog regulations and refusal to retest my vehicle twice, after not passing it originally. he agreed that you should have given me a smog certificate on the 1st inspection. i also should have been refunded my money since you refused to retest my vehicle with evap. unready since that is routinely allowed under the regulations. it's hard for me to comprehend that you contend that you are right considering the b.a.r agent ruled against you and i recieved a smog certificate immediately after you refused to reinspect my truck on the 3rd visit to your shop. i hope it was worth not refunding my $37.95 to have this many bad reviews on yelp, facebook, google and among all my peers who are looking for a capable auto repair facility. and to now have this incident on your record, with b.a.r.. additionally, as you knew, when you taunted me to call b.a.r., they cannot compel shops to refund customers for misconduct or workmanship. it's also incomprehensible that you were too closed minded to read the regulation when i showed it to you, and admit you were wrong. thank you for wasting my time and effort driving to your shop 3 times. i regret ever coming there. read more

yea so the owner is not very pleasant to deal with. answers the phone with who is this in a rude tone, i said my name is eric. he said what do you want. so i said im calling for pricing. after talking on the phone and asking how much a brake and lamp inspection with smog would be out the door he said $107. so I show up to my apt the next day and than says its $142. bait and switch. after arguing with him over the price he quoted me i reluctantly agree to do it. than he checks my car one of the monitors was not set (evap) and said no i dont want to smog it. go drive some more. this is not against B.A.R regulations. its fully legal and permitted to do so says so right on the website. but said no it is legal but i dont want to get in trouble. whatever dude got it done elsewhere for $100 out the door no problems. read more

I'm so glad I checked this place out. I had gone to Jiffy Lube to get oil change. I always purchase my own oil and filter. The Jiffy Lube guy said would be same price of $70.00. I just looked at him like he was crazy. So went on down to Best Auto Care. Owner and I talked he gave a much better price and I said I could come back as he seemed busy with another customer. I've been driving past this shop for months and when all 3 of my cars needed a smog certificate for registration I thought I'd give this place a shot. My first 2 cars passed with no problem. Tony had my wife and I out of there in less than 30 minutes at a very reasonable price. My 3rd car however (2000 4Runner) did not pass but tony was able to diagnose the problem. He replaced 2 catalytic converters on my 4 runner then it was able to pass. When I picked my car up and drove it home I heard and exhaust leak so I took it back. Tony was very apologetic and found where the leak was coming from. He had to sand down the muffler and added another gasket which fixed the leak. So then I had him do some other maintenance such as replace the spark plug, spark plug wires, pvc valve and fuel filter. my 2000 4Runner has 215000 miles on it and has never run so well thx to tony. His shop is the cleanest shop I've ever seen. Tony is very thorough when explaining what needs to be done and what he did after he fixed it. He showed me all the old parts each time to confirm the work. Tony is a very honest and professional mechanic which I think in this day and age is hard to find. This shop is under new management and is a family business. I watched as they renovated the place (which was an eyesore in the neighborhood) so decided to check it out by taking my car in for an oil change. When I went in, I was greeted by the family and given a cold bottle of water, which was great on a 100 degree day. The owner, Tony, has been a mechanic for 25 years and has worked in the Bay Area. He works on your car personally, not some young technician with no experience. Once I was there I asked him about my AC which had been acting up for some months. I had taken it in to one of the big chain shops and they couldn't find the problem. Tony said he'd check it out and let me know. It turns out the pressure was too high because I had added some of the consumer grade refrigerant and had messed up the system. He vacuumed out the old refrigerant and replaced it with all new stuff and the AC is as as good as new now. Best of all, he gave me a great price and explained everything along the way. I would highly recommend this shop for old-fashioned customer service and quality work. read more
